Halloween decorations for Christmas? - halloween decorations

I work in a CVS store and today my job was to mark all of the Halloween stuff down 75%. As I was doing it I was thinking about how my son and his fiance would have loved to have had some of it this year because they go crazy decorating for Halloween since it's their favorite holiday. Then I got the idea to buy a few things that they would love and give it to them for Christmas so they will have it next year. Each thing I bought was at least $15 and at 75% off what a deal! They would never be able to spend $15 on one thing never mind 3. They know I'm a bit weird so as much as they will be surprised when they open this particular gift they won't really be...lol... Do you think this was a really weird thing to do? Would you have done it given the chance?

Not weird at all! My cousin also goes crazy over Halloween. Last year we bought her some clearance Halloween decor from Walgreens as part of her Christmas gift. She absolutely loved them. I am sure your son and his fiance will love them. My partner bought the temporary tatoos CVS had for $3.99 before Halloween. She got them for .99 each, bought 5 packs and we are going to give them out to the trick or treaters next year, along with candy. FUN FUN FUN! PEACE

Absolutely! It's the thought that counts. I always try to make sure I buy something the person will actually like or use. PEACE

I'm happy knowing that I am giving something they will use even if it's not until next year. At least they will think of me while they are putting them up!

It's nice to know I'm not alone! I think as long as we know the person is going to like the gift what does it matter how much we paid for it?

I think your son and fiance will get a real kick of those gifts. Since Halloween is their favorite holiday I think they'll really appreciate them :)

I can tell you they will be surprised on top of appreciated the idea. They are into saving money for their wedding and wouldn't have it to spend on decorations for holidays next year that's for sure.

on a strictly personal level I always think it's kind of crap when someone, well wait... since I'm making this strictly personal, I'll tell you the story from my perspective. My brother and I used to be real close...that is until he married an idiot. Anyway, so at first they had one son and my brother was the stay at home dad while she worked at Barnes and Noble. For christmas it was pretty much inevitable I'd get a DVD and both my parents would get a book from them. This was because at barnes and noble she not only got a staff discount but there's a week around christmas time that staff get an even bigger discount. So of course my dvd and parents books were bought from her job only because they could get it for real cheap. I think that's crappy. Buying something for people just cause you can get it real cheap at your job... and not because it's something they really wanted. Now that's not to say what I think YOU did was really crappy, if they really really love Halloween stuff than I think you made an excellent choice. But on a personal level I'd probably just give it to them as a nice gift for no reason rather than christmas, BUT that's just me. I'm really weird about the whole christmas gift thing.

grrr...I just wrote a looong response and it disappeared...oh well. I totally appreciate your opinion. My son is a nuts about halloween stuff and could never afford to buy these things even though he wanted them. I got them on sale at a great price and since they are so hard to buy gifts for I know they will appreciate them.

I hate when that happens! See that's the point I hoped you realized I was getting at. Not that I was saying what you did was crappy or anything but that I think it's a crappy thing to do IF the recepients of the gifts won't enjoy them. But since your son really loves halloween stuff thanI'm sure it'll be a great gift that him and his wife will really enjoy. and that's what really matters. Not how much you spent on them or even where you got them.

Since any extra money they have is being saved for their weddding they wouldn't be able to buy this kind of stuff next year so now they will have some cool decorations for their favorite holiday...that's the way I see it anyway.

lol..we must come from the same weird cut. As presents go it has got to beat socks or some other necessary clothing item. I think Christmas is as appropriate time for giving something no matter what the price that demands thought on the part of the giver and personally I don't think cheap was your idea. The cost of Christmas is so overdone, that like you if I can save a few bucks no matter where the gift comes from and still be thoughtful about what the other person likes, sounds good to me. Besides won't it be fun putting Xmas bows on Halloween....hehehe

You are so right! I had been looking at these 3 particular things wishing I could afford to buy them for my son. As soon as I saw they were now an affordable price I had to jump on it.

I don't think these are weird Christmas gifts at all. My husband and I are somewhat gothic, and Halloween is our favorite holiday as well. We love great decor and dressing up, the whole 9. I think these are cool gift choices for your son and his fiance, and I think it's great of you to be thoughtful of their likes in that way. Especially if you got them at a great deal!

I don't think it's a weird idea at all, ctry. To me the object of giving gifts is to make sure it is something that the recipient will welcome. I saw quite a few Halloween markdowns when I was out, but I don't know anyone who really goes all out with decorating for Halloween, so I refrained from buying any of them. I am sure your son and his fiance will love the gifts.

I think that is a really cool idea. I stock up all the freebies I get for a few months for stocking stuffers. Pens, notepads, sample packs of skin care and shampoos. Right now I am trying out Chapman's kids site to get prizes, So far I have a calculator and apron coming and hope to get a pack of three pens by chirstmas. The kids love it and it helps me save money to get other things for them.

Oh my gosh NO!!! That is the funnest way to do Christmas! The holiady has gotten so out of theme. Spend the most, pay all year just in time to spend the most again! My kids are older and we have all realized that we dont need all the things we think we do! last year, i bought my daughter a gift card to Starbucks - $50. I haven't seen her face shine like that since she had her little girl!! She was Thrilled!! And what a squeal!!! I dont' think there is anything else I could have gotten her that would have made her so happy! And she thought of me everytime she used it for the next few months! _-okay, the next month! IF thek ids like halloween deco - buy that for them ! They'll have a blast next year putting itup! I am looking for stocking stuffers now. I love doing hte stockings. I do practical but usable and fun and they just love seeing what I found. My kids are 25 and 29 and love mom's stockings! Put the fun and joy and "kids" back in christmas, i say.

I don't see your gifts as weird in any way. A gift is something that we think that the person/persons receiving it will like. So if you know that they enjoy Halloween decorations and will be happy so they will have interesting new decorations for next year, than it's the perfect gift. For me this just shows that you know them and I'm sure they will love that specific gift :)
