Glasses or contacts

I wear glasses. I have never even thought of trying contacts as I have so many different types of things wrong with my vision that I didn't want to waste my money on contacts if they didn't feel right or couldn't properly adjust my vision. I also think that glasses can be a fashion statement. Do you wear contacts or glasses? If you have both which do you prefer?

I have strange eyes...both are different. I also have astigmatism's. My eye doctor claimed that if I was to get glasses my prescriptions and lense thickness would create headaches for me. So, I have been wearing contacts for 20 years, since I was 16. Maybe I will get the Laser surgery someday, but I am grateful that my contacts work as well as they do and will probably just stick with them.

Good for you. I am glad they work out. They have never even offered contacts to me so maybe they are not an option.

I got glasses in the 5th grade. I hated them. I convinced my mom to get me contacts in the 8th grade I think. I stopped wearing my glasses altogether when I got my contacts. I did not wear glasses again until a few years ago. My contacts have always bothered my eyes, but I liked that more than glasses. I started wearing glasses again when I ripped one of my contacts and did not have money to get a new one. I had gas permiable ones and they were over $100 each. I have thought about getting contacts again, but I am not sure if I really want too. I do need new glasses at least.

This year my eye doctor has banned me from wearing contacts. She says my retinas are in danger of detaching, so no contacts for a year. That was 5 months ago, so I have 7 more months to go. Normally I wear contacts only unless I'm giving my eyes a break. But right now it is just my glasses because my health problems and subsequent medications have dried out my eyes very badly. I also use eye drops constantly, lol.

Oh I believe it. My mom became allergic to hers as well. She almost had to have a cornea transplant. The problem is they don't make glasses with a strong enough prescription for her. So it's always a bit scary when she drives, although she is not legally blind or anything. I just worry about her.

Believe it or not my sister became allergic to hers so it was back to glasses for her! So I know what you are talking about somewhat!

I was diagnosed as slightly near sighted at age 12, so mom got me glasses. Of course, I kept misplacing them...once my stepdad sat on them and crushed them. Another time they fell off my schoolbooks in the driveway and my stepdad ran them over while pulling in. Basically I only wore them to see the chaulkboard at school. So mom got fed up and allowed me to get contacts too. I wear glasses when I first get up in the morning and in the evening when I'm getting ready to relax before bed. The good thing about contacts is that if worn regularly, they help in keeping your vision the same longer than glasses because you strain your eyes less...like when you look from side to side, etc. My perscription has only fluctuated slightly in the last 29 years. Don't get me wrong, my glasses come in handy when my eyes are tired and my contacts start to irritate my eyes. They don't make disposable soft lenses as good as they used to.

Good for you!!! They have never even asked me if I would like to try them. I have a lazy eye and nearsighted....also aspigmatism (sp) so maybe that has something to do with it.

I have worn contacts, but I prefer glasses. I didn't see as well with contacts, and they are so much more expensive. I hated taking them out at night and not being able to see well. I like being able to take my glasses on and off quickly. And frankly, I think I look better in glasses.

I prefer to take glasses. It also able to upgrade my fashion state. It is very dangerous for me to use contact lens at my environment, since I work at the factory, with dusty and hot room. Glasses would be care-free, and able to take it on and off quickly. Glasses would be better!

even il be given the chance to have my own contact lenses, i wouldnt wear it.. as far as heard from feedbacks, contact lenses are harmful to the eyes specially if worn for a long time.. so to be safe, il use eyeglasses instead of contacts.. im not saying that contacts are not good.. but like me im a careless person so contacts wont suit me..

I don't know what it would be like to wake up in the morning and be able to see what was on the night stand. I have been curious about laser surgery but also afraid that a mistake would take away what sight I do have! thanks for sharing!

i don't have problems with my vision so there's no need for me to wear contacts or glasses. but even if i have, i would prefer glasses. i think its safer. i don't want to wear contact and then removing then at night and do the routine everyday. it might hurt my eyes. but i think on special occasions, i would consider wearing contacts. especially on costume parties! LOL

That would be the ideal thing to do but I don't think I would like them in my eyes all the time. My sister became allergic to hers! What a pain!

I tried contacts years ago and loved the way they looked. Still the huge glasses era, friends and family were like - wow - you have cheekbones! They took way too long to get in - and it wasn't because I had a problem touching my eyes because I don't. I just have small eyes and some mornings smaller! I love glasses. I actually like the 'librarian look'. I wear cat eye glasses so I don't overwhelm my face though. I love Neo-styles. Now though, I have to glasses that will stand up to my baby!

I personally prefer glasses as my eyes do not get tired after long hours. I have dry eyes which does not allow me to keep my contact lenses on for too long.

I adore my contacts! I'm blind w/o them though. I have glasses as a backup but dont like wearing them because I feel so ugly. Not everyone who wears glasses is but I personally feel that way about myself.

Eyesight - Glasses, contacts or surgery
I use both. I first started wearing glasses in 1986 and started with contacts in 1996. I actually prefer glasses at home (I can't be bothered to put the contacts in first thing in the morning) and use contacts when I go out. Along with short sight, I have a small problem with astigmatism too. Earlier, we wouldn't get contacts which corrected both...but my astigmatism was less and the doctor said I could use contacts without the astigmatism correction. Frankly, glasses are easier for me...but my toddler keeps pulling at it. I am considering going in for laser surgery soon.

Isn't it wonderful that they can now do corrective surgery? I can't remember ever seeing thing clearly. I have worn glasses since second grade....about 50 years ago!

I am nearsighted and I wear glasses. I can't get my mine around glass being that close to my eyes. And besides I only use my glasses about a third of the time, contacts aren't worth it.

I have been wearing glasses since age four -- in 1962. Contacts were not an option back then, and especially after my mother married an army sergeant at nine, 1967. In the meantime I developed the need for bifocals, and the color thing, antagonism, or whatever it's called I've been wearing glasses since age four, 1962. I don't need anything sticking to my eye directly, or have them mutilate my organ with their laser thingamajig ... Just give me the lenses to correct the thing, and I'm happy

I wear glasses and i will recommend to anybody to wear glasses first advantage of wearing glasses is that people think highly of you that one wearing glasses is a literate and knowledgeable person and second its quite comfortable as there is a problem of dryness in you eyes if you wear contacts for very long which causes itching

Well your right glasses can be a fashion statement. I wear glasses right now. But i so much prefer contacts. I just dont have the money to buy them right now. I think i look better wearing contacts. And i just hate going out in the cold and then my glasses fogging up. And i think contacts are totally comfortable to wear.

I have worn glasses since I was 6 years old. At age 62, I decided to try contacts. I have tri..focals....tri. They said that I could wear them They put one of the corrections in one eye, one in the other and suggested that I wear magnifying glasses for reading. What a laugh. I couldn't see the signs on the road then they changed them...then I couldn't see the speedometer...not a good excuse if you get picked up for speeding, I still had to have a pair of glasses hanging around my neck...what did I accomplish. I felt like it was a struggle just to see things that I could see all the time with my regular glasses...I quit wearing them. I will wear my glasses. There are nice frames you can get to make a fashion statement...if that is what a person want to do...I get compliments on my glasses all the time...so I guess they must be alright. I prefer my glasses.
