Teletubbies and speech

speech, teletubbies - I don't like them :(

I heard that little kids should not watch the Teletubbies because they have the tendency to be late bloomers in terms of speaking. They might also be like how the teletubbies' speak to each other, like baby talk and has difficulty saying the words like the little red teletubby named Po. Did you hear any of this yet? Do you think it's true? My boyfriend's nephew grew up like that, and the kid watched teletubbies too much when he was a toddler. Any comments? Thanks

I wasn't aware about the teletubby issue until one day I saw an episode when Po sand "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and said something like "Bingol, Bingol, Lito, Staaa!" and my 3-year old cousin immitated me. I was like "Good thing I watched Sesame Street."

I haven't heard of this cartoon in paticular. I say so what. If your child talks baby talk when young I say don't worry about it. They will grow out of it. Why deny them the pleasure of watching cartoons. People talk to their kids with baby talk and they grow out of that too. How many kids around 10 or so talk baby talk, not too many. So I say people shouldn't worry so much and let their kids be kids.

I don't know if I believe this. As long as the child isn't watching Teletubbies 24/7, it should be ok. You should also try to interact with your child, and have them watch other shows that aren't the Teletubbies. Then I'm sure they'd be fine.

I am surprised to learn it. In fact I don't like watching Teletubbies because I found it's boring in my opinion. It is too simple and no words at all. However, it seems most children like this cartoon but I don't know why. When my son was still a baby, he liked this cartoon. Perhaps their sounds like children?

Yes I have heard that as well but I will say it depends on the child. My son has seen it few times because they are on when he is sleeping but once I decided to watch it and I swear my IQ went down by 10% it was sooooooo stupid I honestly felt dumb after watching it. The language is shocking there is no story that makes any sence to me and it looked like it was ment for babies (just noise and moving colourful objects).

i think your right i reallly like the color but the way they talk, it make me sick, kids cannot learn to them just to destroy everything , there reaction will be not good for kids, much better the barnie, barbie ect, it will be more educational than teletubbies.

I dunno about that show, or any other show as being GOOD for a kid, cause we should be trying to teach them things ourselves instead of sitting them in front of the tv to keep them busy. I know that some people dont let their kids watch too much tv, and i think its ok, but in moderation. My daughter doesn't even really care too much for tv so far.. I hope she stays that way. However my hubby's son really likes to sit in front of the tv all day long if you let him. And i think that is his mothers fault cause she lets him do it at her house so that she can go and do things she wants to do throughout the day without him "bothering" her. SICK.

I'm sure it might have an effect! Kids learn a lot of things from TV! It also makes a difference how much they communicate with adults also!

I personally can't stand the Teletubbies, but my daughter watched them. She is in kindergarten and is reading at 2nd grade level. She uses words that I don't even use, so I really don't see the correlation. Maybe some kids just have other underlying learning problems that are blamed on the show.

I never let my son watch Teletubbies. They were just weird. You couldn't understand what they were saying. My son had enough problems with his speech because of his stupid pacifier. He didn't need anything else slowing his speech down. My daughter has never watched Teletubbies either and I don't plan on letting her any time soon.

Personally I think the Teletubbies are scary! I mean, for a kids show, they look like a bunch of Aliens speaking alien language! Bananas in Pajamas was even better than this! Lol! I don't exactly know what are the effect of watching teletubbies for kids but I'll definitely wont let my kids watch it in the near future.

I am sure it depends what else they watch. All my kids have watched it and I have never heard them even utter a sound similar to what is on the show. As a parent, one should monitor what and how much TV their children watch and IMO if a child is watching a certain TV show that influences them, prehaps they are just watching too much TV.

Hello dear friend. This teletubbies is new to me, but from what is described in the discussion, I can tell that kids are quite influenced by it in terms of speaking. As you knoe, kids are growing and are very good at imitating things, either good or bad. I do hope that their parents would teach them what is good and what is bad so that they know what is what. Thanks.
