How's The Water Taste Where You Live?

I live in Southern California and the water on tap is just nasty. Even when we boil it I can still taste the chemicals or whatever makes that misty stuff. You know a Californian by the bottle of water in our hands, I guess. Even bottled water, however, sometimes taste like the plastic it's in. Anyhow, how's the water taste where you live?

In the states the Government uses Floride to "purify" the water. Do you know that Floride is the major ingredient in rat poison? There is more than enough in a tube of toothpaste to kill us, why do we need it in our water? Is the Government trying to poison us?

And why is it in our toothpaste. I guess there's a lot of poisonous things in our food. Maybe it's to get us immuned. Ah what do I know. :)

It's not bad at my house but at my work ( in another county ) it has a slight metalic taste. I've learned to ignore it.

A metallic taste? That doesn't sound too healthy, my friend. It would be hard for me to ignore. But then again if it was the only water around I guess I would have to.

That's exactly what we've done. We had to install that filter and it tastes so much better. I just fill up some bottles and freeze them.

We used to have that when we lived in Australia. Don't remember how it tasted though, which probably means it was good.

I'm going to have to write down a list of all the places where the tap water is good to drink. I wonder why that is? I mean, why do some cities in the US have drinkable water and others don't? It's a mystery to me.Thanks for letting me know, Asawako.

Oh it's terrible here and so hard you can see the floaty's when you pour a glass and let it sit for a while.. We haven't drank our water in years, we get our water from my husbands brother who lives on the other side of the city which is 45 miles away. (my husband works in the city, so it really isn't an extra trip). Then we also use a brita filter for that. One year, when we did drink our water here, they messed up and put too much chlorine in..Oh how gross, it smelled and tasted like chlorine and we had to buy our water then..(I think the community should have paid for our water since it was their mistake) But instead they just said, just buy water for a couple of days until we straightened it out..:p

I forgot about the chlorine they add. It's like drinking pool water. Gag!

I live in the north-west coast of Malaysia where we get water from the mountain range. The main source of water is from the spring of the mountain which is covered with dense of tropical forests. The water tastes nice. It is the habit of the people here to boil the water before taking it. But nowadays many people, including me do filter the water before drinking.

How come you still have to boil it or use a filter? Sounds like spring water from the mountains would be perfect to drink just as is. Your water must be doubly healthy for you. Lucky indeed.

Our water is totally safe to drink. But I dont like the taste much, as it is full of flouride & chlorine. The flouride is for our teeth, & the chlorine is to kill bacteria. We purchased a filter years ago, & that is much better. On Kangaro0 Island, they have installed a salt treatment converter, so we all drink water there that comes from the sea. At first I didn't like it, but I became used to it. Which is a good thing, because Adelaide is going to build a salt converter plant, as our city is running out of water.

That's really interesting. It wasn't until a couple of days ago that I found out that some cruise ships convert sea water to drinking water. I would have never thought it possible. We have salt water pools too, so I don't see why our drinking water couldn't come from the sea. What does it taste like?

Here in Nevada we have very hard water. When we moved here our friends put a bottle of water in our hands and said for the sake of your health, please drink bottled water. As we really don't like the taste anyway, I guess it's a necessity. Because of the extreme heat here in the summer, we're never without that bottle. We have a lot of folk transplanted from California and I'm sure their bottled water habit came with them too...Whit

Ah yes, Californians do thrive in Nevada. And apparently we bring our habits with us. What exactly is hard water anyhow. I think someone else mentioned it before and I forgot to ask.

I live in a small town in East China where water tasted good. We have a beautiful river and many springs(natural ones). As a kid i enjoy summer time playing with water and drinking water. That was only before 1994, after 1994 as my country is developing its economic at an amazing speed, even the town i live in was involved. People began to build paper mills along the river bank and water has been seriously polluted, after the administration realized their fault and began to take measures it was just too late. Businessmen lost their source of income so they began to find other ways. They focused on the springs this time they sell water.... Government hasn't yet control the among of those factories that producing dringking water, hoping their measures won't be taken too late. Once there was green fields touched by the sun, once there was valley where river used to run.

What a beautiful picture you painted. Beautiful rivers and springs. What a shame it's all lost. Sounds like something is being done though. Good luck.

I am very lucky. I live in Devon in the UK and our water is lovely and soft so it takes ages to use a bottle of shampoo. It has a good taste too and I do drink from the tap. Whenever I visit friends in the London area though I notice the difference and take bottled water with me. Their water is very hard and does have a metallic taste to it, yuk. Ellie

Yes indeed, you are lucky. I never thought about the affects nice soft water would have on the amount of shampoo we use. Does it make your hair nice and bouncy too? Sweet. Thanks Ellie for stopping by, how's the weather in the UK. Have a wonderful Monday evening or is it Tuesday already? :)

Living in Delaware, I could drink tap water through a filter and it tasted fine to me, but living in Philadelphia now, I can't stand the water even through a filter. It's so awful. I can only stand the filtered water when I mix in some kind of water mix or coffee. It's so bad here. Yeah, I have so many bottles of water. A case in my car and a case in my closet in my bedroom.

Sometimes my coffee has an awful taste too. I have to remember to take the water from the filtered side. Crazy huh? Keep those bottles of water as cool as you can now. Thanks for the info, my friend.

I like the taste of the water where I live, but not where I work. Not everyone likes how it tastes where I live, either. At work it tastes of sulfur and salt. Our principal gets bottled water this year, but many of the staff taste the plastic from the dispenser. He wants us all modeling the consumption of water, not pop, coffee or other drinks for the students. I like tea, though, and he has not said anything about me doing it. Green tea is very brisk and cuts the plastic taste nicely. My water at home has a lot of minerals, but I think they are good for my bones.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to model good drinking habits when the water is hard to swallow. Green tea is a good substitute. Even better in most cases.

I live in the UK and the tap water is quite nice in the area I like in. When I lived in a different area the tap water was a tiny bit nicer. Many people I know have a water jug that takes some nasty stuff out of the tap water. As I see it the tap water in the UK is perfectly safe to drink. I am very keen on traveling and have been to many places where the tap water has been unsafe to drink and in a few places it has been dangerous to even use the water when cleaning my teeth. Bottled water can be expensive in a few places that I have been but it has been a necessary purchase. I remember my first trip to California. The tap water in Los Angles tasted horrible. I bought bottled water because I couldn't stand the taste. I know what you mean about a plastic sort of taste so glass bottles are the best ones to choose. I like icy cold bottled water the most.

You know Maxi, have you ever told us why you travel so much? You are a lucky girl. Sorry you had to taste our California water, lol. But I guess you can just chalk it up to another adventure. I like icy cold bottled water the best too.

I live in Alaska and love the water here. It even comes out of the tap ice cold in the winter. When we lived in Hawaii the water there was gross, on Oahu. They have a bad sanitation problem. A lot of people there had trouble getting or staying pregnant and we think it was the water.

Wow, from Hawaii to Alaska. That's must have been quite a culture shock. Though both places are beautiful. I would have assumed the water in Alaska would be prestine and ice cold too. I wonder if we could tap into Alaska's water supply, lol.
