How often do you dye your hair?

Ever since I was 13 I've been dying my hair once every few months. I had done it so often that I couldn't even remember what my natural hair color was! It all started because of the blonde rage where everyone wanted their hair to be blonde. I finally let my hair grow out for 6 months to see the natural color then got a box of dye that was as close to natural as I could get to try and phase out of the 'dying'. I've had my hair many different colors, from blonde, brown, black and red, to pink, purple and green highlights (though they were all accidents meaning to be red, reddish black and brown from blonde). So I was just curious, how often you've dyed your hair?

I'm another one that's dyed my hair since I was about 13, I'm 19 now and my hair has been blonde, orange, red, black, dark brown, purple, green, pink, blue... And yes those ones were intentional. I tend to dye my hair when I get bored of the colour really, maybe 3 times a year? Slightly more if it's a colour that doesn't lie to sit in my hair long like the pink. At the moment it's a very bright purple. I love bright and different colours, Brings some brightness into someones day!

Haha, I always think it's great when people have the courage to dye their hair bright colors. I don't have the self-confidence to be able to do that haha.

I have to dye oftenly as my hair is turning grey slowly. Even a single strand of white hair makes me uncomfortable as I just hate them. My hair is brown so I prefer shades of brown.i like to try out new shades as it's a trend also and some shades do look cool sometimes. But its really a headache for me to go to the parlour and dye my hair as i have to sit for too long to get the entire process done. Natural colour of the hair has it's own shine finally.

I add some blonde highlights to my hair about once every 6 months. It gives it body and makes my life much easier. My natural color is brown and it's pretty ugly. My hair is beginning to thin out because of age therefore causing some "vacant" spots on the top of my head. I'm not bald but seeing the scalp at times for a woman is not a pretty site. I've been told to keep it real short and color it to make it appear thicker. I have no gray so really don't have to color it if I'm too lazy to go sit at the beautyshop and get it done. I could probably do it myself but don't want the mess at home.

so - CherBear! what color did your natural hair turn out to be? were you surprised? I had my hair dyed for the first time in 1989 it was done at the salon. I tried to dye my hair myself in I think 1997, it turned out weird. I have recently purchased some dye and am going to try and cover up some greys - but the dye is real close if not an actual match of my natural color. so I guess I dye my hair (since my adult life) about every 10 years :)

I've never dyed my hair. But I've been mistaken for having my hair dyed a couple of times because it turned into dark brown and my natural color is black. The first time was in high school and I almost was sent to the disciplarian's office because it was against rules to dye the hair. Good thing my friends stood up for me. The second time was just last year. I don't know what happened. Maybe it's because of the stuff I put in my hair.

When I was younger I never dyed my hair. MOst of the time I had short hair, black color from nature. I always loved my own color, it was me. But getting older changed the color of my hair, one by one to grey, now silvergrey. This color is ok when it is very short, but at the moment my hair is longer and then this silvergrey color is not beautiful, it make me looking older then I am. So know, let's say for about two years, I color my hair everyonce a month, or every six weeks. I use dark brown, because it's for me, the most natural color as before. I do it myself, it takes only one hour and I'm back lookable.

I've dyed my hair only twice in my whole life. I like my hair now, naturally black. When I had red highlights before, it ruined my hair. I had to have it trimmed every two months to get rid of the highlights. It was a pain.

I couldn't possibly count all the times I have dyed my hair. I think I was about the same age you were when I first dyed it. I have had blue-black, orangey red, all different colors of blonde and brown. My husband has always wanted me to dye it fire engine red and maybe I will one day but not until I decide to cut it, it is really long with layers right now. I am almost 30 and this is the longest my hair has been since the 8th or 9th grade. He likes it long too and everytime I dye it a different color he ends up missing the blonde anyway. And everytime I try to go brunette it washes out quickly; even using permanent dyes. My parents hate when I dye my hair other colors. I haven't been dying my hair quite as often lately. I highlighted my already blonde hair and the upkeep hasn't been as difficult.

I was a late starter at dying my hair, I think I was 19 when I attempted it for the first time, and my natural colour was a brown, and so I thought that a mahogany colour might look ok on me, it looked lovely on the box. But no, on me it came out bright orange. Oh boy did my dad laugh, he thought it was hysterical. Since then I have had many many accidents where it has come out awful. I am now 34 and I have been many many colours just like you, I am currently boxed blonde but I am now fed up of it, but you have to be careful when you are boxed blonde, what colour you go for next because it could come out seriously wrong, so I am thinking about my next colour very carefully. I usually dye it every 6 - 8 weeks.

I started coloring my hair in June. My natural color is light blonde and I decided to color it a really dark chocolatey blonde. I was going to the salon to get it done. I would get it all done every 3 months and in the middle of that period of time I would get my roots touched up. Now I am doing it myself because it is just too much money to pay. Anyway, my change in June was very drastic. I just got bored with my natural color and, even my Mom told me that sometimes we are just not meant to be blonde, even when we were born blonde. I am probably one of the only true blondes that doesn't want to be. LOL! But, we all want what we don't have. LOL!

I had my hair dyed only once, but a period after that i felt regret, because my hair became dim and bifurcate .The dyestuff really hurt my hair. So i advice you not to dye your hair too often for the sake of your health.

I haven't since I was 19 and I think before that only twice. I like the color of my hair so there is no need.

I dye my hair every six weeks. Because at that point the gray roots are showing. I don't even remember what my natural color was. I do know it was close to what I dye my hair because I didn't want to do anything to drastic. Also when I started dyeing my hair was when gray started showing up in my hair. Men look distinguised with gray streaks but people say that women look old with gray. I have heard these comments made.

I started dying my hair probably when I was 12 and then I was 13 I got a job in a hair salon so I really have had my hair every colour. I actually haven't dyed my hair in the last 6 months but generally I dye my hair every 6 months but always end up going back to red and black. I dyed my hair black for years and I really really loved it. I have been toying with doing my hair again soon and I think talking about it on here has really given me the inspiration to get it done.

I'm 32, and I got my first grey hair at 14. I've been dying my hair since I was about 25. Granted, I dye it my natural shade, so it doesn't matter much, it is just to cover the grey. I dye it every 6-8 weeks, depending on how fast it grows out.

Hi CherBEar. I also dyed my hair when i was in my high school- you know I kind of regret it. I remember when I am in the salon, a hairstylist always tells me not to dye my hair. I have a natural shiny black hair that complements the color of skin and eyes. But of course for the sake of having a new look I decide to have it dyed. I love shades of brown and burgundy- I look good on those shades but they say black is better. I am now wearing a black hair, so far I am not thinking of having it dyed. =)
