I have my 2 beloved dogs' urns, 2 collector cars, a small oil lamp and a bottle of sand my daughter created in class last year on my mantle. Also have a few shirts hanging from it to dry. Ohhhhhhh and I have some antique lace draping on the ends along with alot of ashes from the fire that floated up when one of the logs rolled off on me last week.

I lived in an apartment with no mantel over the fireplace. For some reason it drove me nuts. I always thought that if it were my home I would have to install a mantel. Now, years later, my taste as changed a bit and I might like the look of a fireplace with no mantel, especially in a master bedroom or something.

We don't have a fireplace so I will have to pretend. I'd put a flatscreen television above the fireplace if there was enough room. Would also have pictures of our kids and grandkids and a small vase with one artifical flower in it on one end. Might also add a photo of my parents and in-laws. They are all gone now. I'd keep adding things but the mantle would have to be the length of our street when I was finished..lol

Our daughter has one above her fireplace and it's fantastic. The tv can be seen from the kitchen area as well. Great for sporting events when a ton of people are at her house.

Here's a shocker.... I have pieces of pottery. Not any of my own pieces though. I am very hard on my own work and have very few of my own pieces in my home.

(Sorry, you caught me in the middle of Spring cleaning, I can't believe the junk these people collect and put where it doesn't belong..)

When I was a kid there would be pictures of my cousins an sibilings. Well that is until christmas then my grandmother would get out all of her decor and replace it with that until about new years, or after. It's been so long since they've actually decorated. Where I live now it varies on the season. When I get my own place (well one with a fireplace) I will probably just have a few decorations, am not sure if I would change it on a regular basis or what not.

We don't have anything on our fireplace but we do have a painting on the wall above it. Because it sits quite low, putting anything on it, covers some of the painting.

Hello dear TerryZ. Thanks so much for your generosity in this discussion. Well, in fact, I do not have a fireplace as is mentioned here, but I would be very happy to pretend that I had one. Smiling. I would like to have a picture of beautiful nature with rows of trees in the forest and small animals and birds living in it. I would also like to have a small clean river running through the forest as I love to live next to a river to see it flowing all the way to the east with fish swimming in it happily. I dream to live in such a place, listening to birds chirp and twitter among the trees, seeing small animals like rabbits and deer playing in it. I love this kind of life. So I imagine my picture on my fireplace this way. Thanks very much for letting me have an imagination of mine. I feel so good about this picture. Good day, my dear friend.

I have a gas fireplace but I don't have pictures on the top of it. I guess I could put a few on it, but since I just moved I am not finished unpacking yet. Right now I have a gtray with a little puppy dog toy on it. And I have two candles on it, too. I have a big oil painting hanging above it and I think if I put other pictures on it, it will take away from the oil painting. Maybe.

I had to go down to check what we had on our fireplace and all we have is a little clock, nothing else, so pretty boring in this household LOL. Mum keeps all her photos etc in her own room, the front room where all the ornaments and frames are, I think they'd get broke if left in the main room where dad is. Mum likes her ornaments and they adorn her fireplace in her room.

First, pretend I have a fireplace. Now pretend it ISN'T where the cats can get to it. I'd have the mantle covered in dust and junk. And when a cat did get in they'd knock it all off.

We have pictures, a lamp, a few plants, and several knicknacks on our mantle. The mantle runs the whole length of the room, so it is about 16 feet long. There is room for plenty of stuff.

My fireplace is covered in the kids toys! I have to clean it everyday as they seem to use it as a storing place! At the minute I have the phone, an easter card off my son that he made himself at school, he is 7 and it is lovely, the only trouble was he only put it to mummy and not daddy and so that did not go down too well. But he did say he would put his dad on it next year, so thats not too bad I guess, then there is a trophy that my 7 year old won for literacy at school and I am extremely proud of that and polish it up quite often, and then there are just doctor who figures and all other kinds of action figures so it is all a bit crowded!!

An antique clock, 14 candles in a mix of brass holders, an antique lantern, pic of my stepson graduating college, pic of my sweet bebe cat that passed away several years ago and one of those weird glass thermometers that have the different colored floating glass beads inside (anyone have any idea what I'm talking about???)
