Or was that bologna? I watched my husband make a sandwich yesterday and it prompted something that I've always wondered about. When you make a sandwich with more than one piece of meat and some cheese, do you slap the meat together and then add the cheese on top? Or do you sandwich the cheese within the meat? I admit that the bit of OCD in me dictates that the cheese fit precisely in between the meat, in effect giving me a sandwich within a sandwich. How's about you? Or am I the only one that would even care? My bologna has a first name, it's O S C A R

hi I have to line my bologna ,Oscar of course, upprecisely with the cheese in themiddle and the pickle on top, shades of burgerking, but the edges have to match.Honestly I do not like the store brand it really does have to be Oscar Meyer cause it just tastes so much better.

Nope doesn't matter 2 peices of meat,3 or 1 even it has to be meat, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo. Hehehe.. now that is the proper way. Oh and wheat bread as well none of the white stuff.

Aha, another one for my side! I don't do pickles, though.

i usually put the cheese down first, then pile the meat on.it's not so much a preference,as that i've found the tendancy of the cheese to zip off the sandwich with the first bite is lessened with it on the bottom. yea,i like my mayo LOL :)

LOL .. I'm getting a humorous mental image here of cheese ending up on your plate as you take a bite.

i dont really care about that actually. i put the meat on, then the cheese on and then some mayo or a tiny bit of mustard on my sandwich. we buy our bologna at a small deli near us, it tastes much better than the stuff that you buy at the local grocery store.

Normally when making a sandwich I put meat first, then cheese then tomatoe and then the condiment. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Yes, with mine I put it on the bread. Hubby likes his either on the bread or right on the cheese or tomato. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Ok, the condiment has to go on the bread, it's what makes it not so dry. When I go to Subway, I cringe when they put the mayo on top of all the stuffing. I don't want it so much as flavoring as I want it to moisten the bread.

Sometimes I fold the meat in half and then arrange it neatly on the bread with the cheese. I like the cheese on the outside though. And I was watching the girl make a Subway sandwich last night and it was so neatly laid out, I was impressed.

Yes, you do need another discussion on condiments! I put mayo on the tomato on whatever is on top of the stack, so technically it's beside the bread....

I do like the way they lay out the sandwiches at Subway, except for the mayo. I don't know why they don't put it on the bread! The stuffing isn't what needs the moistening. I usually get the seafood/crab and it's already got the mayo in it so why does it need more?

Here is what a cortjo73 sandwich looks like: White bread mayo cheese Turkey (preferably smoked) more smoked turkey maybe a little more smoked turkey Cheese mayo white bread. Then, I like it when the cheese is a little bit melted. Yummy! I love those sammys. In fact, now I want one! Darn you for making me hungry when dinner is still at least 3 and a half hours away!

I don't think that I have ever had Havarti cheese. But, maybe some time I will try that. It does sound good. Oh, and I forgot to say that my cheese of choice on my sammies is American. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, you know what turkey is really good with? Havarti cheese on a real croissant. Get the good flaky ones at the bakery counter and slice them in half, put a little mayo on it then add deli sliced turkey and havarti cheese and nuke it for just a few seconds. I haven't had one in years, but oh man, they're divine!

I like to start with the condiments, add a couple of slices of meat (but it can't be flat, it has to be rolled in half), then add the cheese.

My pbj has to be just so. I spread the peanut butter to the edges and the jelly the same, but on the opposite slice of bread. Hubby just plops it in the middle, spreads it a bit and adds the other slice. Yuck.

I put mine on the two different slices too, but I'm not really particular about making it to the corners exactly or anything. But this does bring up another whole area of discussion. I'll have to write myself a note to start it tomorrow.

You know, I don't think its a conscious thought to do it the way I do, it's just 'what I do' ! Seeing my husband do it differently that I do the other day is what prompted me to ask.

Your way of making a sandwich sounds neat and organized. I am not so neat and organized about my sandwich making. I tend to pile on whatever is closest to my hand at any one time just trying to keep it upright so everything won't fall over before I finish and eat it.

I only eat bologna sandwiches fried. I slap the bologna in the frying pan to heat it up and then put it on the bread. Mustard only. I don't eat cheese on my sandwiches. The only thing I am OCD about is the bread. The bread must match of presicely how it came out of the bag. My husband laughs at me about it.

It depends on the type of meat for me. If it is thick cut lunch meat then I layer the meat and cheese. Thin cut deli meat however I just place the cheese on top before adding the second slice of bread.

Now see? If I'm using thin deli sliced meat, I have to put two pieces on each side, or else the cheese is thicker than the meat.

My bologna has a second name it's M E Y E R! LoL! I love cheese Ldyjarhead... swiss, provologne, american, cheddar, monterey jack, hot pepper, smoked gouda, velvetta (lol)! But, getting to your question about how I make my sandwiches... I don't eat too much cheese anymore as I have been cutting down on my fat intake & unfortunately cheese is very high in fat. However, when I used to make a sandwich exactly the way I wanted it I would put the cheese on the outside of the meat, not inside like you. I would start by putting my mayo and/or mustard on both sides of the bread, then putting a slice of cheese on both slices on bread and the meat in the middle. Of course, however, if I was adding lettuce, tomatoes, &/or pickles to my sandwich they would have to be on top of the meat on one side & under the top slice of cheese. When eating the sandwich the pickles, lettuce &/or tomatoes have to be on the top half of the sandwich... otherwise, god forbid, I'd be eating it upside down! That would be tragic & just plain wrong. LoL!

Oh don't let's get started with all the other things you can add to a sandwich or this discussion might never end! I still like more meat than cheese, so it makes sense to put the cheese in between.

Wow. When I eat cheese (not too often....gums up the old works) I just kind of put it on top I guess. My question is, if the cheese is on the bottom is that called the missionary position? The Spokesman

I can understand the pizza, but with a sandwich there are two slices of bread so it's really not 'on top'.

Too funny Ldyjarhead! I was just watching Leave it to Beaver and Wally made a sandwich where he put the bread down then the meat but folded it so the meat was on the outside. He said it tasted better that way. LOL I put the meat on then the cheese, then the condiments.

Well now that is just odd Maria Anne and my OCD could not stand for that cheese between the meat. It must be properly placed on top of the meat. then the tomatoes, lettuce and Mayo. Hehehe to me that is how it should be done, and if it were not I would have to fix it. For me it all has to be in a certain order. Truthfully I really am OCD about it, come at a sandwhich at the Taveren. Hehehe.... Oh and it would never be bologna*eewww* it would have to be ham, turkey, roast beast. Something on those lines. I have gotten fussy in my old age.

Yea, but if you have TWO pieces of meat, it makes more sense to me to put the cheese in between, nice and neat. I try not to each much bologna either; it ranks right up there with hot dogs for having so much junk in them.

Thick slices go on with the cheese in the middle. Deli thin slices...the meat all goes together. Unless you have more than one kind. Then they need to be separated by the cheese. Doesn't everyone do that...?! OCD...? I don't think so...why do you ask...?

Ok, we're ALMOST on the same page here. If I'm using deli-thin slices of meat I'll likely use more than I would if it were a slab of bologna. I might have two thin slices, cheese, then two thin slices again. If it's really thin, the cheese will be thicker and you can't have that, and you can't put just two pieces of meat on one side because that would be uneven. Geez ...

Well, the deli stuff I keep folded up and put 2-3 slices down.
