How many of you read short stories? do you like the full novels better than the shorts or the shorts better? What if someone were to post a short story would you read it?

Short stories are good also, I used to read them if ever I ran out of novels to read. I still have my high school books, that's where I look and search for short stories and I sometimes I could get a handful of it. I even read the one's that I have already read, just wanted to repeat it since I kinda like the story and the moral lessons as well. I believe only a few could get to read them if posted, since not all do READ the entire post here. In my case, I would love to take the time and read it..

I prefer full novels, preferably ones that use characters over several story arcs. ie not something Robert Jordan-esque that uses the same people through umpteen books and one great big storyline. (exaggeration, I know.) I prefer something like say, Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, or Carol Burg's Raikirah saga. (probably spelled wrong, too lazy to bother checking ;)) Sometimes I'll read short stories but usually not. I prefer something a little longer. I mean heck I don't usually even read the 'sample chapter of the next book int he series' just because that'd a) spoil it and b) like I said too short.

If I'm going to read short stories it's usually on the bus when I'm travelling to and from work. I quite enjoy them although my preference is really for a full length novel. One of my friends was posting chapters from a book on here and I was continually missing bits and having to go back and re-read stuff. I'm just not organised enough in my approach to myLotting I'm afraid! So if someone were to post a short story it's not that I wouldn't be interested in reading it - it's just that I would be unlikely to follow it properly. Also I have to say I'm not good at reading a lot of text online - I just can't read ebooks for example. I have to print them out which sort of defeats the purpose in a way.

My shorts are usually very short. I think I posted the link to my latest here. LOL!!! But I understand that Ebooks take a lot of concentration to some depending on the format given. I read a couple ebooks and I personally would never do it again. LOL!! I like to have the paper or hardback in my hand if you ask me. LOL!! take care and thanks for answering.

I like both short stories and novels. I think it's more challenging to write short stories since you're limited by page length. But novels are great too, because they allow the reader/writer to live throughout a whole new world. I write both and I read both, but I think the novel is harder and yet more gratifying. However I think the short story form is better suited to this format.

yep I thought the same that a novel would not go well unless you break it down into a series of posts but then you have the problem of not everyone being on the same page and then some missing it. So I opted for the short. story LOL!! thanks I love reading both and I do consider both a challange myself. LOL!!

I love both, short stories and novels, short stories can be really good as they can sometimes be more exciting, I used to love getting books from the library that was all short stories and I would always look for ghost stories, I love short ghost stories! If someone were to post short stories then I would definately read them.

I enjoy short stories, mainly because I like to get to the meat of a story without wading through deep water. I will go even further and say that some of the long posts that are written here are too long for me. Usually they are boring. Unless you can get to the action, and keep it going Hot and Strong, I'm bored! Can you write a short story that fits those specifications?

Yes I do read them. I like both equally. Yes I would read. It amazes me sometimes when a full-length movie is made out of a little short story. But at the same time it's almost logical since you can't fit everything from a novel into a 2 hour movie.
