All you can eat restaurants- what's your tactic?

Last night I went to an all you can eat restaurant and it was great! However, I kept on thinking about how i could eat the maximum amount of food as humanly possible without vomiting. i thought about perhaps starving myself all day before I came. when i brought this up wih one of my fellow diners he said "no I've tried that, your stomach shrinks and you can't fit much in once you get here." I think you would actually have to eat a lot in the couple of days leading up to the dinig experience so that your stomach expands. Then on the day that you're dining in, just go in a bit hungry. I think you could probaby fit in quite a few plates. I can't wait to go again! So what's your plan when you go to an all you can eat restaurant?

Hi coffeeshot! I do think your friend has a point on that one but if I am going to train myself on doing that, I might not be able to turn back and always be eating a lot. haha.. Whenever, I eat on "all you can restaurants", I usually make sure I am truly hungry and skip meal probably before I go, however, just like your friend say, I end up eating the same amount of food just I am used to. Just my thoughts dear. Take care and have a nice day!

My plan is to look everything over very carefully before digging in and then to choose items that I don't usually get at home or at other restaurants. Knowing that it is OK to go back and get more, I never pile my plate high, but rather take a little bit of just the most interest items and taste them all. Then I go back and get more of the best stuff. Usually I don't use more than 3 plates, maybe 4 counting the dessert. Fortunately, hubby likes to share desserts, so we get 2 or 3 and then divide them at the table. I don't usually eat bread or other filling items, and it is amazing to me to see people who put a couple rolls on a plate with fried chicken and mashed potatoes and no veggies. Yes, they are usually wide people who do that. I can get fried chicken at KFC and make mashed potatoes at home. Rolls are everywhere! At a buffet I go for the lean and healthy stuff. I can eat more food if I don't drink a lot. We live in a resort town with lots of inexpensive buffets, so I get to practice these methods frequently. :-)

my tactic would be to starve myself for hours so that my taste buds won't be able to trick me of my humane pleasures. And at that time the tank should be well empty and ready for refilling and nobody can stop a a hungry , and determined man from anything he desires , with an empty stomach I'm sure the experience will worth while

yeah definatly eat a few small meals and eat your last meal 4-5 hours before you go and then eat as fast as you can because the slower you eat the fuller your stomach gets. thats why people trying to lose weight are told to eat slowly cause it fills you up more. so definatly eat as fast as you can and dont eat for 4-5 hours before hand nice post

Well usually I eat a huge plate of heavier foods first, then I move onto lighter foods...fruits, chips, salads etc, and then another heavier food, and bread and dessert is last. Bread fills you up quicker, you see. And halfway through it's always good to have a bathroom break, because your body accounts your bladder into the whole "maybe I can/can't eat more" thing. I always manage four plates, and sometimes a fifth (and I'm only a nine somethin' pound, five foot, teen..a tiny thing). It's not 'cause I WANT to eat everything in sight, it's mostly 'cause they always serve alot of great food...and usually it's the best I've eaten in a long time (at home we eat whatever's cheap, and being small I usually just eat the minimum so it goes farther..). *isn't starving myself, just eating what I need and no more*

When we go to all-you-can-eat restaurants, its more for the variety... Hun usually has a small steak, the loads up on salad. I have my favorites like fried okra and that great plastic 'seafood' salad, usually with baked fish. These are things we don't get at other places, so its special to go there. We used to be able to scarf it down, but we don't have much capacity anymore... as my Pop used to say, its he11 to get old!!!

Well I used to eat everything under the sun.. but now I just eat a few plates. My Fiance and I do not go to very many all you can eat places, and when we do it's with his parents...

When we went to an eat all you can restaurant, I'm sure I definitely ate my best. haha! I ate a lot! I starved myself...haha, that was dinner and so I ate just little food at lunch :) and my strategy was to eat and eat fast and when I start feeling to get full, I rest for a while and then I eat again...haha and also less rice is the best as it takes up a lot of space.. as well as fluids. So less on fluids...I drink just after when you're done pigging out

This is such a funny topic! I do go to the local chinese buffet and I often eat the dishes I like best and that I rarely eat. I often look out for stuff I'd definitely not make myself at home so I start with that, then work my way down to the most boring stuff. I would not stuff myself but try to sample the best dishes available. Hate that so full feeling when you wish you'd not eaten all that food..!:)

when i go the first thing i do is take a walk around all of the food to see what is available. That way you can pick out your favorites first and be able to enjoy all those before getting too full. I also like to get small portions of many things so that way I can try other things and figure what is best to see if i want to go back for more. And to top it all off I try to save just enough room for ice cream or whatever dessert may be present. It takes a lot of time to master the buffet.

i don't actually have a tactic when i go to an all you can eat restaurant... i just eat normally and when i already feel full, then i will stop... it doesn't worth it forcing my stomach to eat more just because i don't want to lose money...

i like eat all you can because you get to eat seafoods a lot. hehe usually i will not eat stuffs i find too ordinary in a buffet such as this. of course you have paid considerably higher for an eat all you can.. just do not drink too much so you will not be full right away.

I don't go to all you can eat restaurants anymore because to me, it's a waste of money. I could never eat more than my tummy would allow! I find that people just gorge themselves at these places with all they can eat - just because they've paid for it - and then they feel bloated, uncomfortable, and sometimes sick afterwards! They just want their money's worth, no matter how it makes them feel. If you have a big appetite and can manage to eat a big meal without feeling discomfort, then go for it; I have a friend who is a big guy and he loves these places because he can eat to his heart's content without feeling bloated. Not me.

I am not a big eater so I really don't care about the "all you can eat" buffets. When I go out, I usually just order something that I would not make at home. If I go chinese, I get the buffet because I like a variety but other than that I usually order off the regular menu and I get more than what I could possibly eat.

The last time I went to an all you can eat bar I ended up with a doggy bag after a half a plate. I am not built for them anymore because of my weight loss. So I will say I don't go them anymore. I used to love them when I could eat there. The restaurant actually gave me my doggy bag for free because they were laughing so hard I could not even finish one plate. Uggg talk about embarrassing. Glad you found a good one though. Ainge
