Now I need a Name...lol

Dog Needs A Name - Strength, Loyalty, Authority, Intelligence, Kindness
United States
May 8, 2008 7:25am CST
Okay this is for something different, not the same thing as my "word" discussion (for whoever has read that=P). I am looking for a name, for a dog. I will give you a picture of the dog with this discussion, that may help some of you. But I need a good, strong name. A name that says...strength, intelligence, authority, kindness loyalty...basically a name for something that demands and deserves respect. Am I making any sense? lol. Thanks guys!

That defeniatly sounds like the dog I described! lol. So is Bima already the name of a famous character, or were you saying it is the name of like a legendary creature? I don't wanna use a name that was already used in a story =P

lol! i didn't totally dismiss the name =P I just don't want to use a name that someone else used. But if for now Bima is only the name of the legendary creature, that's okay! =P

When I saw the picture of the dog, the first word that came to my mind was His Majesty or Majestic. He certainly looks like he would demand a majestic name. SIAKL - or something like that, which is the first letter of each word you use to describe him. Good luck with the name.

I really like the name Majesty too. But I'm not sure I want to use a name that really sounds like a dog. And I think it just tells you (as in the reader of the story) too forwardly that the dog is great and strong. I don't want a name that tells you he is strong (and all the rest =P), I want a name that just sounds like he is. Does this make sense? lol But I really love how you made a name out of all his attributes!! I'm gonna pick like 5 or 6 words I would really want to use to describe him, and do what you just did! Thank you Terilee! :)

I have looked it up, Lily, and found a site that suggests some good names: http://www.dogs-names.net/male-dog-names.html Few that I liked and some of them are used by my friends too, though not for this particular breed are: Ace, Legion, Ranger, Hoover, Brutus, Chester and Tiger. Good luck with a good name search!:-)

Thank you very much for the link! The names you listed are defeniatly good names; Legion is defeniatly a strong name. But I'm not sure they are the name I'm looking for. I looked at all the names on the link you provided, and although I saw some good ones, I don't think I read the right one. None of them jumped out at me and felt right...you know what I'm saying or am I just being a control freak spaz? =P lol.

Shoot! I meant to mention... I don't necessarily need a name that was made for a dog. I want any name, whether it sounds like a person or animals name. Thank you! =P

I can see what you are saying, Lily, it happens that sometimes something just doesn't 'strike'. And, it happens in more way and in more things than I may like to believe at first and it happens with me too, so no worries!:-) What about 'Schreuder', hehe! I like its sound!:-)

For some reason, I am leaning toward a martial arts term. Sensei, is the leader or teacher of Karate. I also like Seiei Kan, which means pick of the best with wise perception. Let us know what you come up with!
• United States
15 May 08
Even though I think Sensei would be good...I tried imagining it as his name--and it didn't quite work for me. But Kan alone might be a possibilty. Does Kan mean anything by itself? I will defeniatly let everyone know what I decide! =) In fact I might make a discussion with a list of chosen names, and I will let you guys vote for your favorites! =)

Well the name, Kan, has been added to my list! =P I think it's meaning is also really good for this dogs character! And it sounds strong, which is good for his appearance. Thank you! =)

Kan means perceptive or intuitive. I think that would be a good strong connotation for such a majestic animal. We look forward to your poll!

I knew a Great Perinese who looked just like him named Nemo. Well, if he's really secure in his manhood, I say the bigger the dog, the closer to a name like, "flower". :)--

I had this all typed out and mylot is misbehaving and not completing the submission of posts! Mackenzie, King, Majesty, Sheeba, Casey, Rocky, Murphy, Harley, Hank, Corky, Samson, Winston, Zeus, Riley, Roman, Bear, Berrin, Chimo I wouldnt suggest Buster because any buster I've met has been a fairly mean nasty dog.
• United States
15 May 08
I always like the name Samson! =P lol. It is a good name, defeniatly. Don't worry =P I won't name him Buster...it's too common =P lol. Does Berrin mean anything?
• United States
15 May 08
ooo ok. Well then I think Berrin could also be a possible name, bear defeniatly seems fitting for such a large, beautiful, strong dog! :) Thank you!

a full grown dog... I just love Great Pyrenees. Is that your dog in the picture? If it were a female I would suggest Duchess - so perhaps Duke would work? though I do not think it is quite right. King Louis? (pronounced Lew E and not Lew IS) General, Colonel, Brig(adere)
• United States
16 May 08
Well one reason I don't wanna use a name like Duke is because people often associate it with animals, and I don't want a name that does that. And I'm not sure I want a really known historical name like King Louis for his name either. I'm not sure about General or Colonel either, for the same reason as Duke...but I do kind of like shortening Brigadeir to Brig for his name! =) Could be a cool name for him :) Thank you Modestah!

ARTHUR, Lol. Arthur is the name that pops in my head when you said it has to have strength, intelligence, authority. If you think Arthur is so cheesy, ignore it. Arthur , sit! Arthur, jump!...is that cute?
• United States
9 May 08
Arthur defeniatly is a strong name! Makes me think of King Arthur :) Defeniatly a respectable guy! =P I think this is a name to keep in mind! :) (I'm making a list of names then gonna see which name(s) people like best =P) The dog in my story isn't actually going to be treated like a dog =P hehe. Not like that =P No one is going to tell him to sit or jump! lol. Thank you for the great suggestion grecyc!

I like the shape of your dog. He looks strong and tough, like he could take on anything. Samuel He looks like a Samoyed in a way, but he also looks like he could have other dogs (breeds) in him. He could be Sam for those that know him. Soloman, King Soloman or just King for short. Those are the ones I can come up with. Take care
• United States
9 May 08
Thank you :) He isn't actually my dog though hehe. That's a great pyrenees dog (but I defeniatly get where you see Samoyed in it). But the dog I am looking for a name for is fictional =P I defeniatly like the name Samuel, makes me think of the strong silent type. And you know what...at first I was going to say that I'm not sure it is right for him but now...now that I think of it, it might actually be a good one. One defeniatly to keep in mind!!! Thank you writers!!! =D
• United States
10 May 08
Yeah that is a really good looking pyrenees! lol. I wouldn't mind having him =P I'm not sure if they drool a lot, but yeah I work with dogs and the really big ones do tend to drool! lol. But there was a great pyrenees Mix and he didn't drool! =P Awesome, sweet dog though!

I looked at the other choices and I like Majesty the best so far. That is the best looking Great Pyranees I've ever seen. Really strong looking. When I see them, they're shaggy, in need of a bath and I think they're one of the drooling breeds. I could be wrong, not sure why a lot of big, really big dogs drool. Take care and hope you find what you're looking for in a name.

How about Hercules or Julius Caesar?

Although defeniatly both good names for a strong character, I don't want a name that is so well known like these 2 are. As odd as this may sound, I want a name that just sounds strong...i don't want a name that is always associated with strength and greatness. Thanks though Marcola! =)
11 May 08
Well when I looked at the picture, I thought the dog looked a bit Russian. A name that commands respect... How about "Leonov" after Alexei Leonov? I think a dog could do a lot worse than being named after a cosmonaut.
• United States
15 May 08
lol yeah! i defeniatly know what you mean! The U.S nows more about The Simpsons than they do the Declaration of Independence =P There was an actual study done lol.

Good point. I don't know if the USA is as bad, but in Britain more people know who won the last series of Big Brother than the name of the first Brit in space. Not a sign of a healthy society, IMIO.

Prince. I had a german shepherd that had all the qualities that you just mentioned and his name was Prince. He was my friend, my protector, and part of the family. I had him for 13 years. Sadly he passed away on Christmas eve morning. You may not like the name, but for me it fits all the qualities you just listed.
