Can you fall asleep outside of your bed?

United States

I can't sleep anywhere, but my bed. I rarely fall asleep on the couch and I never fall asleep anywhere else. I can't sleep in cars or on planes. I have to get into my bed to get any sleep. My daughter can fall asleep anywhere though. She sleeps in the car, a chair, the floor, anywhere she is. Can you sleep outside of your bed? Can you fall asleep on the couch or in a chair? How about on a plane or in the car? Anywhere else?

I can't sleep in planes, trains, cars etc. Something about moving just won't happen. However I can fall asleep on the floor, in the tub, on the couch, outside, chairs really anything. However I do love my bed so must of the time I am in there.

My fiance and I drove all the way from Manitoba to B.C. It was one long drive. Takes over 20 hours to get there. I could not sleep what so ever so I stayed awake for the whole trip so I stayed awake. I drove most of it and the fiance can fall asleep anywhere so who goes and sleeps HIM. Cranked the tunes and I kepted on truckin.

Yes I can. If I am somewhere I am not used to, it might take me a few minutes more then it usually does for me to fall asleep. When I First started dating my fiance, I fell asleep at two of his friend's houses. I felt kind of bad because I meant no disrespect, but I was working 23 hour shifts, and it was really wearing me out. I know I won't be able to sleep anywhere if I start getting a headache from trying to sleep. I know I couldn't sleep in the car, because when I woke up I would need the person to stop driving so that I could wake up completely without getting sick. Have a Great day.

No, being sick while driving somewhere and not being able to pull over, would be really bad. - I don't know if I would learn to deal with it, I think as a kid it's easier, but once you get older you just can't sleep in the car like that. Luckily, we don't travel all that much, and if we do i'll be packing a dramamine. Have a great day, to the both of you.

Because I work overnights and when I get home from work, it is usually sunny out. So I sleep on the couch in the living room because it is darker there. My couch is really comfortable.

Yeah, I can see how that would be better. When I worked nights I used to throw a blanket over my window to darken my room.

Yes, I could sleep outside my bed and anywhere. I could sleep in a the couch, in a chair, even in the plane or in the car. I think I became accustomed to it for years of long hours traveling everyday going to work. Since I commute everyday going to work for about 2 hours (1 way), I take the time to sleep while in the bus. Have a great day!

I can fall asleep just about anywhere when I'm really tired. you have no idea how many nites, I've nodded off sitting at this computer. I have slept on the ground, in tents and currently I don't even have a bed. I sleep on my couch or an airmattress.

I have before when laying in my recliner in the living room but everybody has to be asleep. I would rather sleep in the recliner instead of the bed but theres usually too much activity going on

I can sleep in other places than beds. I can sleep in cars and planes. One night I was in so much pain lying in bed that I could not sleep and so I chose to sleep in my recliner chair instead. It offered better back support. I prefer to sleep in my bed but if I am tired enough I can sleep any where and with my current illness I am tired all the time. It is sometimes hard for me to stay awake. In fact if I force myself to stay awake until I go to bed I sometimes cannot sleep at all so I nap when I can, usually in my recliner chair which is so comfortable. The only problem with it is I cannot change position and I do like to lie on my side sometimes. When I am in a car I sometimes have trouble staying awake. I avoid driving because of this.

I avoid driving when I am tired for fear of falling asleep, although I don't think it would happen. But I'm not taking any chances.

I actually have an easier time falling asleep someplace that isn't my bed than I do in my own bed! It is very easy for me to fall asleep in a car. I guess it's because of the movement. But yah, I have no trouble sleeping somewhere that isn't my bed!

My husband can fall asleep anywhere, in any position-standing, sitting up, etc. It's a little odd but also fascinating b/c I can't do it. I have to be really really cozy and comfortable to fall asleep, unless I'm exhausted, but I still have to be someplace at least semi-comfortable.

Like you, I need to get into my bed to get any sleep. The only time I've been able to sleep on the couch was when I was very sick. Sleep on a moving vehicle of any kind, never!

I hear that. I was in a car accident a few years ago and had to sleep on my couch because it was easier to roll off of.

I can sleep anywhere as long as I do not have important activities or meetings and as long as I am lying parallel to the floor. I don't sleep when in sitting position.

i can sleep just about anywhere. i spent a lot of time traveling in... non-commercial ways i guess you could say, which required a lot of sleeping in bushes, on freight trains, on crowded busses, under bridges, anywhere really. i sleep better while in motion than while stopped.

I have a hard time sleeping outside my own bed as well (and sometimes it's difficult to sleep there too) I can never sleep in a plane or sitting up in a car, and a hotel is impossible. Strangely enough, I do sleep very well when we're traveling in our RV, but I would guess that's because when we're out camping we are also spending alot of time outdoors and hiking so I'm probably a lot more tired.

I'm the complete opposite. I can sleep in a car, a plane, a train, a couch, anything like that but I have troubles sleeping in my bed. I have to watch telivision or a movie. Sometimes I take sleeping pills. Anywhere other than my bed is fine though.
