Getting Sick Is A Good Way to Slim Down

I hate being sick, but... - Being sick is never fun...the only advantage I know is that it is a good way to slim down without really trying. But I hate getting sick, and I would do anything possible to prevent it...

I was hospitalized from June 23 to June 27 because of some problems with my intestines, and which resulted to severe abdominal pains and vommitting. Last June 23 was really 'hell' for me because I was vommitting endlessly. The doctor has to put me on a strictly 'no food' instruction, and that started my ordeal. Happily, I am back to my normal self again and was discharged last Friday, June 27. I am so thankful to my attending doctor for making me well again. When I weighed myself this afternoon, I was surprised because I discovered I lost at least 5 pounds for only about 5 days of being sick. Four years ago when I had my hysterectomy, it was even worst because I lost around 9 pounds. Now, when people see me losing weight, they conceded that getting sick (such as my case) is truly a sure way to slim down. What about you guys? Please share. But please, don't get sick!

too late I come down with shingles the first of this month and have been fighting the discomfort but the one bright spot I lost eight pounds, good for me, as I hurt too much to care about food and thus the weight started to come down. lol. still battling but hoping it will soon clear up but at least the weight did stay off.

This is certainly true. I once had food poisoning and didn't eat for a while and my trousers started feeling loose on my hips. Other times, when I don't eat as well or go a few days without my regular intake my trousers actually start falling off my hips and when I check it out I have lost weight. Its not really being sick, its not eating. Anybody who wants to lose weight fast all they have to do is not eat or eat a lot less. You'll just see the fat dropping off.

I agree with you...but in my case, I could not eat less really...he, he, he. It was only when I got sick that I really lost the appetite...All it takes is really lots of will power...

being sick surely helps you go down in weight but i won't consider it a good way of doing it. there are lots of ways of slimming down. ofcourse, it takes effort, time and sometimes, even money to do it. well, atleast, without having sick. anne

About twelve years ago I became very sick. I had terrible panic attacks and I developed stomach problems from the medication I was given. I lost almost twenty pounds to the point of being emaciated. I had so much trouble eating. It made me appreciate the importance of good health so much more and even though I was much thinner, I was no happier. Getting sick is not a good way to slim down, but if it's only five pounds then I guess it's no big deal.

true. it's not a good way of slimming down since it's not healthy at all. well, atleast psyche49f did not do it on purpose, right? but getting sick on purpose just to go down some pounds is never reasonable. anne

Hi psyche, great news that you are in your perfect condition now! I agree with you, it's the most effective way to slim down since most of the people will also lose their appetites while being sick, but not also the healthy way since the body will not be receiving appropriate vitamins and it affects the skin. So, there are slim people whose skin is not healthy to look at not unless there is sufficient vitamins supplement and for sure in Hospital they do!

Been there, done that...I picked up (I think) a Flu Bug a few years back, but it killed my appetite-My mouth was very sensitive, trying to eat solid food -hurt-! I ended up in bed with the sweats and shivers, eating bread dunked in a mug of bovril for 2 days-I never lost weight quicker than that week!

Getting sick is Not a good way to slim down! There is never anything good about getting sick. Doctors don't make you well again either. The doctor can only advise you on your health and give you medication to help You correct it.I haven't had a medical checkup for 30 years and am still working every day at 74 years of age. I don't believe in getting sick. My whole focus is on being Healthy. I watch my diet and do Yoga every day. Have never been overweight in my life. I still wear a leather belt I bought when I was 18, but have to let it out one notch.

Yes being sick does lose us weight as does stress! I lost 5 stone through stress and being ill, I had needed to lose weight and was planning to go on a diet but then I did not need too!

Hey psyche49f, relating sickness to losing weight is funny but i see your point. When you get sick, obviously your appetite will decrease, therefore you eat less and then result in losing weight. However, what we can achieve during our sick days is also achievable when we're healthy. I t is just a matter of mentality and knowing that what we eat is more than what we need.
