Whoops - they are gone!

I've been posting at myLot a little over a year now, and as you can see, I've got only 300 something contributions. Which means I post every now and again, then get off to other things, maybe come back a few weeks later, you get the picture. And because of that I noticed something curious. There seems to be always somebody around who posts nicely, and posts often. They, because of the quality of their writings, get a lot of attention, have millions of friends, and you see their photo or atavar virtually everywhere. They are very popular, and other members just love them, it appears. I find that nice. The funny thing is, I come back a couple of weeks later, and - whoops - they have just disappeared! I actually find posts of people asking 'Hey, where is so-and-so.' They vanish in thin air! I've noticed it several times, so there seems to be a pattern. Any idea what's happening there?

Hullo Pillusch!! Wow, I had no idea that you'd been here a year. Wonder why I didn't see you.... Anyway, I really haven't seen much of what you're speaking of here. My particular group of friends just stays. Like me. I think that we end up getting so involved in each other's lives, caring so much for each other, that we simply have to stay to keep up with each other. Plus, we have so much fun! I love that fun! I want to stay right with it. And another thing - some of my friends and I speak with each other by a few means - we Skype, we IM, we PM, and we talk on the good, old-fashioned phone too. It's really quite mind blowing, the friends I've made here, and how much I've come to care for them. I speak to one in particular almost daily on Skype, on our webcams, and when we aren't able to talk for a couple of days, I miss him like crazy! A year ago, if anyone ever told me I'd be doing what I'm doing here, I would have laughed in their faces. This is the first site I joined and the only one I spend any real time on, but I wouldn't have predicted my being here at all, honestly. Computers just didn't hold any real fascination for me. I used ours for a little bit of e-mail and a lot of e-bay, and that's about it. Then, I found Mylot and the rest is history. I guess the fact that I don't work is partially why I'm able to spend so much time here, to have made the close friends I've made. You clearly are a working man, and so are most of the people here. But come back a little more often, ok? I really like what I'm seeing here, and I'd love to get to know you a little more. Whaddya say?

pillusch, you are a poster of my own heart; I too have been a Mylotter for a long time but only post now and again. I have noticed that some posters drop off the radar occasionally but never gave much thought to it, You've provoked my thoughts you little dickens! I will be wondering for days to come.

If on their profiles is says 'not active in the last 60 days' you can bet it's not through any choice of their own. I have sevral 'missing' but I know some are here not using the username we were familiar with. If they get 'booted' and then return and they were my 'real' friends and we had built up a 'feeling' I usually recognise them again even if they are using a new name. That has happened on several occasions too when I check out their website through their profile and recognise it as one I had seen before. I also have the emails of some of the friends I've found on here and if it were to happen to me again then I would be able to contact them elsewhere if I found the doors closed here. Some moved over to that 'other' site - but i bet anything they will be back Anyone in particular that you are noticing is no longer here?

There was this older guy, when I started here I thought he was in charge of myLot, that's how often I saw him (don't know the uername, but I remember him as a reasonable person with thousands of reasonable postings and lots of friends). When he dropped off, I didn't really notice. I did notice when I saw him again 3 month back, with a total of 17 (?) postings and 5 friends. That's when I began to wonder...

Maybe they're taking a break due to mylot burnout? I did see someone posted that discussion & said she wanted to take a break for about 2 weeks?

Maybe their life catch up with them and something else is demanding their attention? maybe they reached the payout limit that satisfies them and they decide it's enough and they are done.. Maybe they get ill and have to stop going online (I remember having one particularly terrible flu when I was offline for over two weeks... boy, that made my online friends worried). Maybe something distracted them or something better happened. There are many reasons for that behavior... But without asking those 'missing' people, we wont know for sure

I think some people drop off because they look at myLot in the wrong way. The approach mylot with BIG BUCKS in their eyes @ @. And when they realize that myLot is not a lottery ticket...just a little fun extra money -- They drop off! They disappear I guess into more lucrative endeavors. But if people just look at myLot for what it is then they won't stress themselves and get disappointed or burned out. myLot is a stress reliever; it's an escape; it's a place where you can stimulate your mind on every topic imaginable. Quite frankly, "MyLot is so FuN that the Money is just a BoNuS!"

I understand what that it is like. I think mylot offers a fun little news-breaker. The front page articles seem to offer the news I want to see, not to mention rarer items from places like 1up.com.

I think it's just a coincidence that some people seem to have made a disappearing act when you happen to come back on. I am on myLot virtually everyday for the past year, and I see this "where is so-and-so" every so often. I guess everyone needs a little break sometimes, either to recharge, or just to do something different with their time or maybe they have to attend to other priorities. Anyway, it's good that you are back, and I hope you will stick around longer and liven up the place with your posts!!

It happens everywhere. Sometimes it's because they've violated TOS and are banned. Sometimes they choose to leave. I have one internet friend who finds a site like this and writes her heart out, then someone will hurt her feelings and she'll be gone - off to another site to repeat the same actions.

hi pillush like the colors all individuals have various reasons to be here. some people come here for kite flying operations. they are looking for others and carry them along to other forums. they come , follow a fixed pattern , create their impression. develop friends and lure them to more lucrative pay sites! well their choice and preferences are different. well so long as it works!!!

I've been here less than a month and I've heard some talk about this older gentleman that got banned. I think everyone who knew him liked him and his posts. I don't think I ever saw him; may have happened just before I came. I've read the rules and hopefully I can abide by them. I hope nobody thinks I've bad enough to turn me in for something to get me banned. This is a very nice place and I've enjoyed talking to people.

I think they just got bored. Like me, I usually tend to some stuffs that interest me much more little rather than posting. Things like gaming and such, but maybe some of those other people have their own stuffs that they need to get busy, like work, family and etc.

I really do not noticed anyone missing from my friend list. Although I see that there are times that many of the friends I used to have is coming more less and less by the day. But for me I am just enjoying my stay in here and post as much as i could.

It is a part of life, one comes, conquers and vanishes. This cycle is repeated and we wonder where these lovely people have disappeared. One stops discussions when one has bled dry of ideas, or maybe due to some reason or the other beyond their reach. We have to do our best and keep writing and enjoying discussions. Whatever, I hope the disappearence is not due to some unforseen difficulties.

That's strange, pillusch. Maybe when people first join, they are very enthusiastic and are working towards getting a blue star! When they get it, maybe they feel they've achieved the highest point, and go on to something else. Maybe they are on holidays, or just having a break from the computer for a while. I'm sure most of your old friends will turn up again soon!

Dear pillusch (375) Hello, in order to keep up with alot members of mylot is to respond to as many as you can and add them to your freinds list..You,ll find that if pick up where they left off on their discusstions they are likely to post back to you , if you don,t have alot of time to spend on mylot just drop them a line or two some will even let you have their email and you,ve made a freind for life and thus keep up with them and maybe even offer tips on discusstions . including the one you are having a problem finding .another way is tag your post where you can find them and they can find you. Happy posting Gateway78

first of all I'm new to myLot, but I'm not new to online forums/discussion. these kind of thing always happen, people just come and go.. I think it is not strange, beside everybody have their real life to live on. correct ?
