Wow. I mean there was one guy who walked right past and he probably didn't even know what happened. But you could see the hands of a person that was sitting right in front of the woman. I would not be able to sit still like that and do nothing. I would probably get scared or something and my heart would start pumping really fast but I would get up and try to check her pulse or something and call for some help. I mean come one. Like you said what the h*ll is wrong with these people? Do they not functioning brains?

would you check her pulse and be this scared if you were sitting there knowing that you are in a psychiatric hospital? most people act very differently towards people from who they expect to be "crazy".

Yes I would do that. And yes people do act differently. But not even the people that worked there checked to see if she was okay. I would have said something instead of sitting there.

Terrible to hear.. It is diffidence to the core, by the public.. And makes my blood boil to read.. Go north, go south...or any where on this earth.. people are too much self-centred.. and never willing to shoulder the responsibility.. Unless, until the incident happening around them is not affecting us.. most of us believe that we in a different world.. and more firmly believe that the situation like this may not occur. similar incident occurred in my state.. of course more than 200 kms from my place.. A man while getting off from the train, fell on the railway track.. luckily he was not killed...but he had his two legs crushed..and the man is still lying on the track.. with wailing in pain.. The gruesome things followed, after this. 1) The train went off, unnoticed. 2) All the passengers on the platform vanished in seconds.. 3) The railway authorities when informed, said.. these kind of things do happen every now and then.. what to do.. a reluctant reply.. 4)After a long time they informed the ambulance.. the ambulance driver was not found in the duty.. 5) They searched the driver.. and when the reached the spot after more than one and half hour.. that man has already breathed his last..

it's true, most people think it can't happen in their country or state or in their life. While it actually can happen everywhere in this world. The tendency to ignore people in need is often also because we tend to do what others do. If most people just walks away, most will follow and walk away too. It takes a indepentend responsable person to go and look if the person in need really needs some help. There are a lot of experiments to investigate this kind of behaviour, and it's always very chocking to see what most people do in certain situations.

That's unbelievable! That is a horrible comment on society. I can understand not wanting to get involved, but, how much trouble would it have been to yell to a nurse "Hey, there's a woman on the floor here". Unreal.

This is an absolute disgrace to todays medical clinics. U are admitted to a hospital bcoz there is something wrong with you or you are ill. the staff are supposed to take care of you, not just sit and watch a real, living, breathing human die. it angers me so much!

Wow! I am so glad that I never been to that hospital I have heard of busy hospitals but not so busy that they let someone die on the floor. This is sad. I do hope they get sued alot so that might call attention to the things wrong in their hospital and they might or so I would hope fix it. I wouldn't have sit and done nothing I would have tried to help all I could.

I just saw this story on MSNBC news and it just makes me sick. This wouldn't happen in other communities. It shows a lack of respect for people no matter what their social status is. I hope that not only are the people involved fired, but prosecuted. I also hope this brings an end to Kings County Hospital. They don't deserve to continue to operate if this is how they treated 1 persond. Lloyd

This is a shame and I herd 6 people got fired and I hope the security guard was one of them. You can see him standing near the wall looking at the patient on the floor for a while and he did nothing and walked away.

The poor woman, no one and I mean no one deserves to die like that. I honestly think the hospital should be shut down I know tragedies happen but there is no excuse for this. I would have been able to sit there and watch that I would have ran screamming for the nurse. Plus there are other allegations against this hospital. OMG what is wrong with this place. Everyone on that floor would have lost their job. They claim that this place is like a page out of a horror novel. Yet the hospital answers that they are going to be making changes. Sorry but to little to late. They need to just shut down and relieve the staff. Get a different health care system in there and then get reopened but have several different agencies there to make sure that they are not violating any regulations and to make sure that the patients are being taken care of. I really hope that those who just did nothing get what they deserve. That is so uncalled for and wrong and upsetting.

I saw the clipping of this in the news and at first thought that the lady just passed out or something but from what they said. She was dying right there in the chair. That was bad for the staff and others that were around that didn't pay attention to what was going on with the patient. I know the family of this lady will sue the hospital for neglect and that will be a big case. Then you have to wonder how many other times a patient had been neglected by staff.

I saw this story. This isn't the first time something like this has happened either, if I recall correctly from the news story. The details, however, are fuzzy for me. I'd have to research it again. People, that is people in the waiting room, tend to see what they want to see. They tend not to see things that might disturb them. If no one seems to be reacting, people feel inhibited and tend not to react. To put this in perspective, there was also a recent story on the television about a man who got hit by a car and none of the people on the street who saw him (in broad daylight) seemed willing to do anything or call for help. I believe our society is trying to teach people to be sheep and just go along with what is happening. Don't question, for God's sake, do not think. The Catholic church is full of that sort of stuff. "We've done all the required thinking, just trust us." Well, I like to think that I would do something.

Good day.. I saw that video and it's horrible. I work in medical field and once a patient is lying suddenly whether on a chair and specially on the floor, it's protocol to check the patient's consciousness and vital signs. It is urgent to check for consciousness and level of alertness. I can't imagine why they let her lie like that and for almost an hour without even checking what's wrong with her. That is gross negligent if not outright homicide. People come to the hospital because majority of them need medical attention, and that's what people in this field should give. Their attention!

it is horrible, that kind of thing only happens to poor people, if she were rich, she probly be in a private hospital, in a private room, with like 10 doctors tending after her, its sad that things like that happen, things worse than that happen, i guess because it happens alot it has lost its shock value, but only in the news or hearing it from someone else, seeing it happening in front of you how can you not help, i guess they didnt know she was dying, guess they think since shes a mental patient its one of those weird things mentaly unstable people do, i really dont know what to say, firing staffs and suing the hospital wont bring her back, but yes they should do that...dunno what to say, this is one of those sad things you wished you have never heard

Well this is Only my personal opinion, but I think the majority of people nowadays just don't really care about anyone else but themselves. They for the most part are extremely selffish, arragant & greedy, to the point taht you really just can Not trust them anymore. Maybe I'm completely wrong here, but if anyone really did care about her (the patient) I would have thought that maybe someone would have been able ot notice it one way or another. If you were to ask me, I'd say that we all all in completely ignormnce, darkness & have lost all faith in things & if we as a society keep being selffish, uncaring for others & greedy, their will be No world at all within the next 500 years maybe less. Just a thought & opinion here.

That is terrible. Just watched it on TV a few minutes ago. For the patient to be treated that way, well sad part is the patient wasn't even attended to. So sad. The hospital should be the place where we go to when we need to get treated. People like the poor victim at that hospital doesn't deserve anything like that.

I am appalled that people did nothing to help this woman at all. where were the nurses and doctors, what the hell was going on, 'why did not someone get a doctor or nurse to attend to the' woman at once? what is wrong with people who cannot help a' stranger? The authorities should fire a lot more than just a couple of the staff. No I would have jumped it, and found a doctor or nurse, and insisted that they come to the woman's aid at once.

I saw that on the news tonight, ersmommy (in Australia). So very sad, and absolutely appalling that nobody did anything - not even getting a staff member! There's no way I could have sat there and done nothing. What's the world coming to?
