What do you take when you have a headache?

I used to take tylenol for headaches, but lately it hasn't worked. So I don't take anything for them anymore. Do you take anything when you have a headache, or do you just let it go away on its own? What medicine works the best?

Your body probably just got desensitized to the tylenol, that happens with a lot of medication. Usually, I just let the headache go away on its own, or else I try to find out what is causing it. If I have been outside/overheated drinking water with salt dissolved into it helps it go away. If I have been stressed out I just try to meditate or do something to put my body back in balance. If all else fails and I have time I take a nap and usually feel better when I wake up.

Ok, thanks. I've never tried putting salt in water for a headache.

I often just let them go, if they are not too bad. I get them from spending too much time on the computer, so it's easy enough to just go rest my eyes If they are really bad headaches, I take aspirin. Ibuprofin products don't seem to work for me at all, so it's back to good old aspirin

Thanks for responding. I get them a lot, expecially when I have used the computer for a while.

I usually take whatever we have at the time. We mainly use Tylenol, but sometimes we have Advil or other types of medication in the house to use. Most of the time, I will wait and see if it will go away first. I hate taking pills.

I am sorry to hear you have headaches. I remember that I used to get headaches when I was 20-something, but then I started paying closer attention to nutrition and hydration and that sort of thing and for me that was enough to prevent them. I know that is not the case for everyone, but all too often headaches do result from a combination of dehydration and mineral deficiencies. So the "medicine" I would take would be a handful of magnesium-rich nuts and a large bottle of purified water to sip on throughout the day. I would also check my pH-balance to make sure I was getting enough alkaline. For more immediate relief though, I would use the second acupressure technique described in the following page: http://www.chinese-holistic-health-exercises.com/acupressure-for-relieving-headaches.html Although it has be many years since I had to use it myself, I remember that it worked well for me. Others have told me that the first method works, too, but in truth for myself I was never able to make that one work. The pressure point on the hand, however, gave me immediate relief the few times I had occasion to try it. Good luck.

Well usually it depends on what caused the headache and how bad it is,if it is a small headache that does not hurt that bad, then I will just let it go away on it own,or if it is a bad headache,or if it starts out small and progresses to a bigger headache, then I will usually take some adult strength liquid Tylenol which that almost always takes care of my headaches.

I have migraines. I take prescription medicine for them since over-the-counter medication does not help me. I also have a rice bag. I put the rice bag in the microwave oven for 65 seconds and then place the rice bag over my forehead and eyes until the headache goes away. The heat opens the blood veins and arteries so the blood can flow freely to the brain. This relieves the pressure on the brain.

My husband does this really cool thing to my head and neck when I have a tensions headache. I love it! It relaxes the muscles and tendons in the neck and at the base of the skull. It feels so good! If that doesn't work I always reach for Excederin. I don't think I have ever had a headache or even migraine that 2 Excederin hasn't gotten rid of!

Excedrin Migraine works wonders on any type of headache. I get migraines and it worked better than any prescription medication out there. Another bonus is that it's cheap.

I have to take BC it is the only thing that helps me. I can take over 2000K of Tylenol rapid release and it will not touch it. I take a BC and it is gone almost immediately. But do beware they say that BC's are horrible for the esphagus because it eats it away.

I do not like to take medicine. I think it is better to wait to identify the cause. A pain killer will not help us to get rid of the problem. Taking a break from the computer works for me. Sometimes I just close my eyes and observe the pain. The pain increases for a while and disappears. Wow, law of impermanency is really wonderful. If you have a fever or a severe headache please consult a physician.

i take aleve or advil-they seem to work better than tylenol.i don't know if it's just me,but it seems like tylenol isn't as good as it used to be.i shouldn't have to take 4 to get rid of a headache.

Hi Bd200789! I used to take Biogesic for my headaches and then switched to Advil. However, I don't take medications unless my other home treatments don't work. I regularly rub an ointment at the temple of my head which is locally produced here in our country which is made of ginger. That ointment works out just fine for me. Take care and God Bless!

I take Panadol - but I've heard there are certain pressure points you can learn to press yourself, which will take away a headache. Wish I knew how to do it, as I hate taking medication.

Well if i got headance i normally take one table of Panadol. amedicine painkiller to my headance and drinking more water that usual and sleeping for a while. If i got a small headance i normally drinking more water, hopping it will kick my headance a way and sleep for a while. Only i take the pain killer , if drinking water and sleeping could't help my headance, cause talking too many pain killer is no good according to the old man say.

Advil actually thins your blood, and in the long term it could cause kydney damage.
