What makes people change when they are behind the drivers wheel?

hi was walking across the parking lot at Vons the other day and a car was almost hitting the backs of mylegs as I walked and when she saw I was not a driver, but was instead going to Rite Aid she screamed at me, ithought you were going to your car and then let out a couple of dams, I yelled back then you thought wrong lady. I dont own a car. my question why do apparently nice people change when they get behind the wheel of' a car, specially a big SUV?

dancglady there was oodles of room and No I was not in a middle lane, I was hugging the line of parked cars, and no menace in anyway to that driver who was breaking some law by practically hitting the backs of my legs with her bumper. since there are no sidewalks in a mall parking area, just where the hell do you think a pedistrian is supposed to walk? wake up drivers you are not the only people in the world.

I am not sure if you are a new driver or what, but the pedestrian has the right of way.. This is the way it always has been.. You do not run over people..

Something like that is a mixture of impatience and lack of consideration. Besides, people do give in to their tempers all the time. This woman should have been cussed raw right there on the spot. That would have put her straight. I don't think its the car, its the ridiculous woman and her lack of self control. People these days just don't place enough importance on their self-control.

hi bluepatch agreed a lot of people do not even try to control their anger. I kind of lost my cool also.

agree friend, people now really easy to lose control. maybe it's the busy city life that make people this way now? who knows, but still I think there is way too many selfish people nowadays, but sometimes we can still find very good people on country side. Maybe the quite and peaceful life there is a good way to train city people to be more patience.

...BEcause people in general are impatient, and even though their nice people like me i am an impatient person so when someone irritate's me or i mistake something for something else i get mad at myself and that other person.... driving can change alot of people's attitude.

I am not really too bad but when I am alone on my car and I see some really stupid drivers doing something selfish or dangerous my language would make a sailor blush.

hi whiteheather I imagine you are a very good driver. yes a few stupid drivers give everyone a really bad name. An arrogant jerk stopped on a yellow light as I got the green light to cross the street, then he yelled at me cant you walk any faster old woman? okay I am elderly but I yelled back, how come you tried to run a red light, little kid? and kept on going. Lateron my walk I saw him parked along the street where I was going to work,a police officer called to me, he asked was this man insulting you, he nearly ran a red light, I was shocked and I told him yes, he then wrote the guy a ticket and I went on into the library where I was working, so dont know just what the ticket was for. lol.

How rude! I think maybe people today are in way too much of a rush. They have all these things going on in their lives that in the end don't amount to a hill of beans in the long run. When they start having chest pains, then it hits them, what have I done with my life. I am so sorry you had to be subjected to someone elses bad hair day. Hugs Marilyn

I think people feel insulated from the world once they are shut unto their little own little world inside the car, therefore think ordinary behavioural standards don't apply to them any more. Have you noticed the people tend to forget that you can see into their cars too? I never fail to be astonished at the number of people who will happily sit in traffic picking their noses! mind you, perhaps they do that in public too!

She sounds like a crazy person and doesn't need to be behind the wheel of a car.. That is ridiculous for her to be acting like that.. I get so mad sometimes, I could take a ball bat to some of these rude ignorant drivers.. We have almost been run over so many times that I have gotten to the point that I am afraid of being in a car.. It really makes me a nervous wreck just to be riding.. It is really stupid when they are in the wrong and then they have the nerve to get mad.. Glad you are ok..

just don't follow their foot steps, don't act like a jerk or childish. What so great if you own a car? make you almighty?? those guys is just short minded people who's need a mental doctor. Never understood why some people have those manners, like their parent never taught them.

I confess...when I drive I can be the nicest person (sure I will let you get in front of me) or the meanest b***** (heck no I am not letting you in) and it is completely dependent on the situation. I am a sweetheart by nature. You know, please, thank you and so on but if someone cuts me off on the road a few times I get road rage for real. I am usually more uptight when I have time constraints and people want to drive slow in the fast lane or avoid every little pot hole in the street. I mean unless that lady was in a rush to get some medicine for someone who was dying at the time, she was out of order. Acting crazy at a parking lot? I am sure there were other places to park. She maybe should have used her mouth and asked you were you parked somewhere instead of assuming that you drove. Many people are just rude by nature and it makes me sick.

i don't know Hatley, I think its kind of the same thing folks do when at the computer here, it is the amenity. I wonder if she felt badly later that evening? Perhaps her day was so rotten that yelling at a lady who was walking made her feel better? Who knows, I have found myself flipping someone the bird while driving that I would not have other wise has I not been harried to begin with.

hi angelwhispers agreed sometimes when we are feeling out of sorts we do things we would not ordinarily do, like sniping at an innocent mylotter or y elling at a pedistrian or another motorist.

Oh MY Hatley you know i have seen this so often! I have been known to get angry in the car but only because so many people are so inconsiderate and do stupid and downright dangerous things! I have heard many stories about people hurting and even killing others over a row about parking places and such like! xxx

isn't it funny how eveyone complains about how bad other drivers are but they never make posts saying, wow, did I do something stupid while driving today. I know I have yelled at plenty of people, however, I have also done some pretty stupid or careless things while driving myself. There are some people though that are just not good drivers. technology isn't necessarily helping as it is giving people more distractions. imagine the old days where maybe you had a radio and a window or heater. Now those things plus cd players, ipods, cell phones, gps, dvd players, and who knows what else.

Who says that these are nice people outside of their autos? Many of the people with the worst road rage aren't exactly Miss Mary Sunshine on the street. Bad manners plague our society. It is not limited to being behind the wheel of an auto. The best we can do is to try our best.... and hold our children to a high standard as well.

wilsongoddard You have me thinking now, right and again bad manners do run rampant in our society. even in such places as our favorite restaurants where the waitress slams down your bowl of soup and some splashes on the table. yes we can help byteaching our kids what to do and not to do.
