Teen's mother forces her to have abortion

This is such a shame.... Teen's mother forces her to have abortion Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 7/25/2008 7:20:00 AM The Kansas Coalition for Life is raising questions about an abortion at George Tiller's abortion facility in Wichita. The girl involved in the incident was brought to the clinic by her mother to have an abortion. Kansas Coalition for Life (KCFL) spokeswoman Mary La Francis says the girl was only 16 years old. "This is one thing we are observing now is underage girls, which constitutes statutory rape," La Francis contends. The youngster's boyfriend, who wanted the child, arrived at the clinic, visibly upset. "These two young people were in love, wanted to get married," La Francis adds. "His family was very much in support of this and had offered to adopt the baby, [to] help them in any way that they could." But the girl's mother threatened to disown her daughter if she did not go through with the abortion. According to La Francis, the boy went inside the clinic hoping to stop the abortion, with KCFL offering assistance, but it was too late. "After talking with him for a few minutes, Jennifer McCoy [pro-life counselor] urged him to immediately go back in and explain that, if she did not want to go through with this abortion, that all she would have to do would be to say so and Kansas Coalition for Life could intervene, call the police, and come to her aid," La Francis explains. "But unfortunately it was too late." La Francis, knowing the teenagers will be impacted for life, believes the situation is all the more reason for states to pass laws making it illegal to coerce a person into an abortion.

That pisses me off more than you'll ever understand. I am unusual in that I am pro-life, but I would never stand in front of a woman who wanted an abortion, no matter what the reason. This young woman obviously wanted the baby. The father wanted the baby. The fact that a crazed parent wanted it aborted is totally appalling. I believe the mother should be charged with child endangerment.

I agree with you, Vlad. I also like the way you expressed your beliefs here. I would like to think that I am pro-choice. I define that as abortions being the answer IF THERE IS A REASON!!! a) Rape in all it's forms b) Endangerment of the life of the mother or baby "Because Mom forced me" does NOT fall under this list.

This seems like a crime. However, the girl is probably afraid of losing her relationship with her mother forever. That is probably why she did it. That would fall under torment, too.

Wow, this is a very sad situation. I believe that the her mother cared more about her own image than anything else, or it could just be that she didn´t want to accept the fact of the reality. I only say this because from the beginning of my pregnancy til recently my mother did not want to accept reality and tried to force me to get an abortion, quote quote so my future wouldn´t be ruined, and I am 20yrs. Sometimes people react in weird ways to different situations, I am sure that the mother will regret the situation even though it is to late to fall into regrets since the action was done.

For those who might be interested in the validity of this "article", One News Now is owned and operated by the American Family Association. Donald Wildmon, their chairman is famous for propoganda and outright lies regarding many issues. Abortion is one of them. He and his minions will take a story like this, get one side and play it in an attempt to reach their own means. I would not agree with a parent forcing a 16 year old to abort. I am very much pro choice. But, I just don't believe it is true. I would challenge the OP to find a more reliable source. Anyone who is intersted in this organization can research them and gauge for yourself: www.afa.net

they never interviewed the girl, if the incident happened at all. Considering where the article came from, I'm likely to believe that it never happened. Again, find a reputable sourse and then I will get my gander up.

What could the other side be of this issue? Her mother forces to have an abortion.

This is really sad. Teenage pregnancies can be very stressful both for the kid and the kid's parents. However, even though the mother may have the best interest of her daughter at heart, she should never have forced her daughter to have an abortion. If her daughter wants to keep her baby, then she should have let her do that. She should have allowed her daughter to make the choice instead of forcing her to have an abortion.

I wish there could be a way to prevent teenage pregnancies, but so far that hasn't happened. Teens have not learned anything from the past. However, forcing your child to kill her child is not a way out.

I agree that this is very wrong. It should be the girl's choice to have the baby or not. Although, I do also understand some of the problems that her mother might have. I mean, even if the boy's family helps support the child, it costs money to have a baby. Hospital bills ect. and they will have to help her while she is pregnant. The mother reacted very inappropriately to this situation, and I wish that I could slap her.

There are always costs associated with having a baby and raising it. However, if she was really concerned about that, she could say, "Out you go!"

I completly agree.. If you made the bed now you have to lay in it! I mean come on he mother had no right to do that.. i have a daughter and i hope that this will never happen to her but if it does i'm not going to force her to have an abortion.. I will actually not let her even choose the abortion because it was her mistake (don't get me wrong a child is never a mistake it's the situation that i'm referring to). and the fact that her mother would disown her? I think that's so stupid apperntly he did not love her daughter enough to want what was best for her. People don't understand that their are couples out there that want a baby but they can't have one of their own and that there are also couples that has had a child but lost them as infants due to prematurly born and so forth.. I wish people would just look at the side effects and others for once instead of always thinking about themselves!

That's a very mean thing. If the guy is okay with it why make the daughter go through the agony of having an abortion. Sure the mother didn't have one. That is so so mean. It made me upset, why push an abortion? That is life, and you don't waste life like that, especially if there's someone who's willing to care for it...It's a very very sad thing. Your post made me cry in anger...Well, thanks. I learned from that post.

If she was truly forced to have an abortion then I would not agree with that, but frankly it looks like anti-abortion propaganda to me. Never mind some pro-life spokeswoman's opinion, what's the girl saying about it all? Sorry I think it's garbage. Oh and any involvement with the American Family Association (which OneNewsNow has) immediately makes the story lose whatever credibility it had.

Yes - not that I'm normally that clued-up on American news media but I've seen other postings on here where the source is OneNewsNow and that's how I know. As for the AFA - well what can I say lol! Just not my kind of people I'm afraid!

I am a pro choice person and I thought it already was illegal to coerce a person into an abortion for whatever reason. I don't care how old they are, what their disability is, or what their mental state could be none of these issues are going to be helped out by making them do something they don't want to do. I feel so sorry for this poor girl. I wonder what her mother was thinking and I wonder if she will ever speak to her again. This is what gives pro choice people a bad name. I wish that what the mother had done was illegal. In my opinion, it should be. Of course, not all pro choice people support this kind of behavior. I certainly don't. In fact, if that young lady had been my friend I would have let her stay in my apartment and locked the doors so no one could remove her. Once again, I am terribly sorry for this person and wonder what her mother was thinking. By the way, is this from a legitimate news source? All in all, if the girl wanted to, she could sue her parents for unlawful imprisonment not to mention pain and suffering. Another young woman did that a couple months ago.

Yes, it was a legitimate news source. The girl probably feared being disowned by her mother so she most likely would not sue her.

It's unbelievable that a parent would force their child to go through this. Several questions pop to mind...why isn't the mother being charged for child endangerment and coercion? Will the daughter and/or father of the baby sue? And what was the Doctor thinking performing an abortion at the insistance of the parent rather than the patient? This will most likely leave a lifetime scar on this girl and may cause problems later in life when she does want children. I'd say the best thing for the couple is to try to move on and start out new. I know it's easier said then done but there isn't much they can do now except grieve...and get the girl away from her fruitcake mother. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Actually I have found a few answers. The doctor that performed the abortion, George Tiller, is up on 19 criminal charges stemming from late term abortions without following the law concerning abortions. Here's a link to it if you'd like to read it http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=70822 As for the girl and her mother in Kansas there isn't anything new on that case so far. However I did find an article about how this is alot more common then ppl realize. Several parents, if you can call them that, have resorted to forcing their daughters to have abortions. Here's the link to that article as well http://www.lifenews.com/state3368.html Evidently it is easier to murder a baby and devestate your childs life then it is to teach them proper morals and values and let them learn from their mistakes. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I don't believe that anyone has a right to force anyone else to have an abortion, period. If this young woman's body can create a baby, then she has the right to choice as would any other woman. We really should petition more heavily to have more laws that protect a woman's reproductive rights and these laws need to include young women, too. This young woman had every right to the support she needed to protect her right to choose and her child. So, now this young woman has to live with this for the rest of her life. How is this just in contemporary society? We fought for choice and young women can be forced to have abortions?! No, to me this is almost child abuse, to hold such a levy over this young woman's head. No teenager should be manipulated in this way, it is horribly tragic and lives will be irreversibly changed... Oh, I could go on and on but my point has been made. This whole scenario should not be permissable. Where are the child protective services for the teen mom?

Our country has gone to pot. We have the wrong people in authority. I don't even understand how it happened unless the girl actually told the people at the clinic that she wanted one to please her mother.

I do not have words to explain how outraged I am to hear that a teenager was forced to have an abortion. I feel that it was wrong on so many levels and that the mother of the teenager should have something to say for herself. How would she have felt if her own mother had forced her to abort? or if she had been aborted herself? I feel sorry for the father of the child and the grandparents who will never be, because of one woman's action. I do hope that the grandparents sue the mother of the daughter!

Its a difficult situation to be sure. I have mixed views on it unfortunately. My son when he was under age got his under age girlfriend pregnant. Or rather "they" since it was mutual, got her pregnant. Her parents insisted on an abortion. My son and I agreed we would raise the child, but we were given no option. So, my first grandchild was aborted. I think of that child often and wonder what he/she might have been like and it makes me sad. I do understand the parent's views on doing what they thought was right for their daughter, but as the other side, it was a hard thing to deal with.

What a ragic story. The other day a situation came up (not as extreme as this, just something I head about rom a friend) that made me totally quesion "loyalty" of any kind. If my mother did this and threatened to disown me, I'd rather be disowned than put a child's life in danger, because my mother old me so. Thankully my moher would not do that to me, but i my amily ever were to make me choose between them and somethig, tey'd lose for forcing me to hoose!!!! So would anyone else who forced me to choose.

This is one thing we are observing now is underage girls, which constitutes statutory rape," La Francis contends Except its NOT in the state of Kansas....Age of Consent in Kansas IS 16...there is NO statutory rape involved AT ALL...Secondly I second what Cyntrow says...if there is a reliable source for this (one that I have yet to find btw) THEN I'll consider getting bent out of shape but at this point in time I think its shady all the way around...THE LAW...as I understand it WOULD PREVENT this from happening in the U.S or Canada..

I think this happens more often than we think it does. Laws to make it illegal would be good, but I think it would be difficult to enforce. We don't see what goes on behind closed doors. We don't see when a young girl is threatened with being put out or disowned or told that if she doesn't her boyfriend will be charged with statutory rape. Typically we don't and wont see these things. And most children love their parents regardless of the mistakes they may make so they would go thru the abortion before getting their parents in trouble with the law.

This is terrible. How could a mother do such a thing. Especially since she is just as titled: A MOTHER. There is no reason to kill a child. Never. No matter what the circumstance. Every child deserves a chance at living a good life. In this case, it's sad to see that the abortion had to commence. The father wanted to help. And so did the father's family. What a poor job of mothering on her part. Im all for making abortions illegal. Just because the child is not fully grown or brought into the world yet doesn't mean that it still isn't alive. It is a live being that deserves a chance to be something...

Remember when you vote this November that Obama is for killing the baby when it is born alive during an abortion.
