In Canada a main staple of life growing up is Kraft Dinner. As a kid you love it because it is a treat. As a teen and a poor student you eat it because it is cheap. As an adult you eat it for the memories. I had it recently and it was horrible. The sauce was different, it had changed textures and was tasteless. I thought it was just me so I tried some more. Still horrible. Nowhere on the box did it say new and improved or new and now disgusting. Is it just me or has Kraft taken the cheese out of their mac and cheese? AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

plus now you are paying an arm and a leg for it! i remember when it was a cheap staple around the house, but not now...its about a buck for a box (or rather a loonie :-)!! these days we tend just to make our own mac and cheese with noodles and cheez whiz.

My husband agrees with you completely! He says there is no cheese flavor to make and cheese anymore he even accused me of buying some cheap brand once cause it tasted so bad and I had to show him the box. I do think it has lost alot of its cheese flavor too and went up in price.

I am glad it isn't just me. I am going to fire off an e-mail to kraft to complain I think. I am surprised that they would change it and not warn people!

It's also a staple food in our house. The Kraft Mac and Cheese sold here in Manila tastes the same as before. Just quite expensive. It's still my all time favorite. It comes in different flavors now but I love the spiral because the flavor sticks to the pasta more. Maybe the makers are different per country distributed that is why it tastes different?

For a time I couldn't find it in Manila tehn I "discovered" it again in one grocery store for a small price to pay.LOL

I didn't even know they sold the stuff in Manila! I learn something every day in mylot. I guess you are right, they probably have different factories and formulas the world over. I just wish they hadn't messed with Canada's KD!

I think it may be a plot by the Canadian government to tell Canadians apart from aliens

Well, considering that they filmed X-Files in Canada, I can understand they might be worried.

Hahahaha... Kraft mac & cheese used to be some of my favorite junk food! Not too long ago I was doing an extended fast... I was shooting for 28 days, but my daughter came up to get some work done on her car (the mechanics up here are much cheaper and more honest then down where she lives). She brought Kraft mac & cheese to eat while she was here thinking that it would be the least tempting to me... little did she know! When she cooked it I had to go get in the shower and stay there for as long as I possibly could, hoping that she would be finished eating it by the time I got out. And she was, the only problem was there were leftovers. They sat in that pot on the stove calling to me. I couldn't concentrate on the scrabble game we were trying to play and finally broke down and ate the phucking stuff. I hadn't eaten anything in 21 days, I had only been drinking water, so I was concerned that I was going to get hit with a big dose of diarrhea. I felt soooo fortunate when I didn't, but what happened instead was it apparently glued my intestines together, hehehe, because I ended up constipated for 2 or 3 weeks!!! I haven't eaten it since, and I probably never will again!

An experience like that would turn me off of the stuff too. It is like the day that my friend and I didn't have any mixer and had to drink gin and milk, curdled. I can't drink gin to this day!

Hahahahaha! Gin & milk?!? I think I would have gone for it straight before I tried that! But I think the results would have probably been the same. When I was a teenager I had all my friends over one night when my mother was out and of course we raided her likker cabinet. We were drinking J&B right out of the bottle, and to this day I can not drink scotch. I can drink whiskey, just not scotch whiskey. Too bad you hadn't been drinking that, because I think scotch mixes better with milk than gin does, hehehe.

The one thing I hate worse than gin is scotch, what vile stuff that is!

I think it might be you, all though I don't care for it either and used to love it when I was younger. I think we just grow up and loose our taste for it. Or maybe I am wrong and they do make it different now. All I can tell you for sure is that I don't like it anymore either, and I don't eat it or buy it anymore.

I haven't bought Kraft Mac n Cheese for a long time because I'm watching my pennies. I used to really like it though. Guess I won't try it again - I buy a cheaper brand and it never tasted as good as Kraft, but it hasn't got any worse!

I know what you mean, I remember when I could buy 4 for a dollar not one for more than a dollar. I remember my college days when I was so poor I had to use water instead of milk but it was still okay.

I know what you are saying. I am only twenty six and I have noticed the same thing. I remember when Grandma would make a big meal, and a sidedish would always be Kraft Dinner. It used to be really good, but nowadays it has only memories of a cheese taste. Now I'm married to a gourmet chef, and he makes me real pasta with any kind of cheese sauce I want. He makes the best cheese sauce in the world, so I don't have to think about kraft dinner.

Real pasta and cheese sauce is so much better that KD. I think it is a crime against Canadians to change the KD formula much akin to the Coke fiasco when the made that new coke. I guess I will have to stop being lazy and make my own mac and cheese from now on

No Whywiki, you're not the only one. For a while there I thought that I might be the only one who had forgotten how to cook this stuff properly. LOL. But one would think I knew how to add water. In any case, it's become pretty tasteless to me too. Shame really. Or maybe our taste buds just grew up too.

The first time I noticed it was tasteless and kinda runny I figured I must have done something stupid when making it so I didn't say anything to hubby. Next time I made it I knew it wasn't me so I mentioned it to hubby and he said he thought it was tasteless both times. Ahh how sweet he didn't say anything the first time! I went to the Kraft website to try and fire off a nasty e-mail but couldn't find the customer complaint e-mail but when I do...

Hi whywiki, I had the same experience a little while ago. They say extra cheese, but come on boys - you don't mess with perfection. They say Canadians eat more Kraft Dinner than anyone else and I know I loved it. Is the taste of real Kraft Dinner going to just another memory? I'm just hoping that Kraft will see their mistake and go back to the "real thing". Blessings.

I know how do they think they can mess with the recipe and us Canadians not be upset, it is like taking the apple pie out of the states! It is unjust and they must pay! I am determined now to find an address to write to them about this injustice!

No, I thought it was just me. It doesn't taste like it did when I was a kid. I don't know what happened to it either. I had tried it throughout the years and everytime I did I wondered what was wrong with it. I have given up buying it. My boyfriend buys the store brand from time to time because he loves mac and cheese. He doesn't seem to mind eating it but, the again he eats alot of things that I wouldn't touch! I guess the days of the Kraft mac and cheese are gone forever! The memories will live on.

I think maybe some of the store brands taste better than KD these days. I do have fond childhood memories of it though...

The KD that we all know and love is what is found in the USA. They changed the formula in Canada for some STUPID reason!!! I have a relative send me up Kraft Macaroni and Cheese every few months from the states. That is the ORIGINAL which we all remember. If you compare the cheese mix ingredients, they are different for sure....
