When I look back to my old writings, it kind of feels stupid and I wonder 'Is that me!" This Is that me syndrome is discomforting but at the same time quite revealing! You just get to know how fast and how well you have evolved as a writer. I have understood that the power of plainspeak is enormous and when you keep it simple you can win thousand hearts. That's my mantra and that's how I have evolved over the years as a writer. Would like hear your stories. Happy writing.

I have always loved to write. Whether I have been a good writer or not though is another thing. As I love to write I keep regular journals about my life, as simple as it is!! I must have at least two folders full of my writings dating back to 2002. What do I write about? I guess I write about my feelings, my thoughts, my disappointments and believe you me there are a lot of those!! The good thing about keep a diary though or a journal is the fact that you can look back on your writings and see how you have developed as a writer. Can anyone write? I guess so, the rule of the game is, just put pen to paper and write! Write about funny things, write about silly things, write about anything that takes your fancy. I think that there is truth in the saying that, if you write on a regular basis then there's a very good chance that you will constantly improve!!

Hi Andrew Nice to hear from you. And I totally agree with you there. We need Not have to be a professional writer to write! I feel, we all are writers in our own rights. We may not be good or very good at it but we can write, can we not? *grin* Keeping diaries and reading whatever comes on your way, right from classics to comics, help me a lot to cope with vocabulary and the much debated block. This has successfully toned my pen from the Elizabethan-Victorian-Romantic sway to simple way of expressing things. All those flowery expressions, metaphorical insinuations all corny stuffs are being taken over by plainspeak. That's how I have evolved the years. Thanks for your meaningful response. Happy writing.

Mimpi I'm a novice at writing and am finding it to be a new interesting and exciting way to express myself. Honestly i've taken the courage and the inspiration from the simple and powerful way that friends like you express yourself in your writings and articles. Well, i'm yet to reach the "Is that me syndrome". Rather it is at "Can i really write ? Am i making a fool of myself?

Hi Alok, you are being modest, as always. I feel we all are writers in our own rights. We need not be with professional pen but we all write. And let me tell you you are among those whom I look up to. You have always excelled yourself and been a great inspiration for us. For you it should be, It's me always. You have a distinct individuality that makes you stand out. Thanks.

It's the opposite for me. I used to write very well when I was younger. Maybe it's lack of practice...but now I just can't get the right words. I prefer to keep things short and not use BIG words. But then I just seem lost when I need them and then I have to resport to long or incomplete explanations.

I guess you are right. I thought I had my opportunity when I had to prepare a paper for a presentation next week. But I got so busy with other priorities that I had to give it a miss. My little one seems to be getting independant now and I think in a few months I will be getting more time for myself. I'll have to start writing then....I'm sure I'll get the hang back once I start. A few months back I almost got tempted to write ...with Deepak's encouragement....but didn't do it.

SV I think you need to chill down a little bit in things you are into. It's largely matter of practice. Happy living.

This is something I have thought about. I think that you improve with time. The more that you practise writing the better you will become. As regards those big, flowery words! Well, if you read a lot or enjoy reading then I think that this helps you significantly. The words that you read eventually start to become your own and then you can start to express yourself better on paper. Andrew

Hi Mimpi, I think when most people think back to what they were, they think they were stupid too. I am certainly no different. When nostalgia catches on, I will flip through my past writings too and geez, the language! I stand ashamed lol. Chances are high too that years later, I will look back at I am now and think I am stupid, supposing I had improved somehow in the future. Cheers!

My only recent evolution in writing is that I've slacked off...awwww. Just too many other interesting things to do. Just got a Triond notice in today's e-mail that reminds me it has been 4 weeks since I submitted anything there, and I have 14 articles on my Triond list of articles to write. Maybe their new thing where they let us save drafts on there will help. I hope so. It is silly to leave the stories in my head when with a small amount of effort they could become residual income.

I agree. I have been getting this Triond mails but just cannot get my thoughts to write in there. What is this new draft thing? It seems quite handy!

Well, I wrote an article for Triond last night, and saved it first and then remembered they had the draft thing. Well, I cut and pasted into their new draft editor and then was making some little changes and I guess I took too long because when I tried to submit the article it got eaten in its entirety. Good thing I had saved a backup before hitting that button. I didn't try to save it as a draft, just went straight to publish, but I had to load it all over and then do the corrections again. Whew. But they did publish it fast. Here it is already: http://www.gomestic.com/Gardening/Common-Sorrel-is-Making-a-Comeback-in-Gardens.234057

I look at back at some of my poems when I was young and stories and I just wonder what was I thinking? It's kind of weird to read what I wrote back then. But then I notice that I have matured in my writting and have gotten a lot better at it. for me it's a good therapy to look back at what I have written because I get to see how I have evolved in my writing and as a person.

Same here actually. We have all random thoughts and different interpretations for those. We do change with time, our mental dictionary changes, we grow and our writings as well. Thanks for responding.

I am doing my best to perfect my writing style, but it is not easy. I will really have to master the English Language, and practic writing more professionally if I am to truly become great at it.

Good morning, dear mimpi. I have to say that I am not a good writer, who is able to express what I would like to freely, especially in the organization of the words. I find it brain-consuming on my side if I try to write something satisfactory to me. Anyway I am still trying to be a good writer. Happy posting, dear friend. Good day.

I think I am evolving. Of course I have my good days and my bad days, but there is nothing I can do about that.My Fibro. flairs up,but I try to keep going the best I can. I just try to be as honest as I can and follow the rules here at my lot and I think I will eventually evolve just fine.

Practice makes a man perfect you might have listened or read. This what with you.You have been a casual writer and now you have a frequent writer. You have learned the tactics of writing a article. You will certain view your earlier writings in a different way.

I also had the same feelings when I check my old blog back in 2006. Since it was the year when my emotions are really unpredictable, my blog entries were really incoherent. I just wrote whatever I felt that time and of course it doesn't really look like any organized post you know. Well now my writing has improved a lot because I'm ok now and I get to read a lot of other well written blogs as well.

Hi dearie Firstly, I feel, you need not have to be an expert or an author to write things and secondly you are an awesome writer! You are just being modest. I feel, we all can write, we all are writers in our own ways. Some are good, some are not so but we can write. And dear, you can even write in your own native langage. If you have thoughts you can always write it down. Keep writing!

Yes I was reading through some articles I wrote for a teen girl magazine the other month, and I was shocked at the trash they actually allowed to be published! I don't do much writing anymore as I'm concentrating on my studies, but I would like to in the future, and I would like to think that I will be able to write much better things than I could two years ago!

Oh yes, I think I'm constantly evolving, but the syndrome affects me deeply *nods nods* so much so, that I dislike to go back to go back and re-read things I've finished, lest I hate them lol. I have a problem with over-simplifying, actually _

I think so, although I am my own worst enemy! I can say that I am typing faster and with less errors, although I still have to look at the keyboard. One of the reasons I joined this site is because I'm disabled 3 years now and I'm losing words (I think that's the right way to put it) I have a hard time carrying on any kind of conversation with my husbands co-workers at social gatherings and it makes me feel really stupid. So I just don't say anything and kind of hide behind him. So I do think mylot is helping me be more intellecual also because I am starting to be able to talk to more intellectual people, like you, and there are many others also. So yes I even think I will try to start what I really want to do and get into writing for money. You know short articles, short stories, opinions and maybe someday,a book.

I've been writing for almost three years now but still I can't consider myself as a good writer. I have so many thoughts running through my mind but I can't fully express my thoughts and ideas. I believe that i have a creative mind but the problem is, i dont have the guts and confidence.
