I only have one television set at home. I think one is sufficent. I know some people have one in each room in their house. I also just replied to a discussion on someone who does not have any TV set at home. So how many do you have at home?

2 TV sets. One gets local stations including the US and Canada so we can know what is going on around us. The other is dish TV so we can get stations we like such as Home and Garden, Do It Yourself network, etc. Also because my husband watches cops shows and criminal Investigation unit shows every night except for Antique Roadshow and the history detectives and one night military history. I can't watch an endless diet of cop shows and military history. I like some variety. I want to watch Martial Arts, Harry Potter, comedy, arts and crafts shows, French, Canadian channels, etc. So there are two people and two tvs. Sometimes my husband and I watch a show together and we have the cat watch the other tv. There are cat videos and dvds just for cats. So once in awhile, we have him watch birds on TV or mice or whatever.

It's actually Cat DVD and Cat Video right now. If it has or will catch on, you'll find it in a high end pet store or pet boutique. So if you have one or the other in your area, you can check it out. Thanks and take care.

Now, this is the first time I read about Cat TV! I don't believe it. I wonder if there are other TV channels for other animals like dogs and birds and so on. I wonder if it will catch on here in my country. I like to watch a variety too but my daughter hogs the TV most of the time.

We do have tv sets on each of our rooms. It's because we live with my in-laws and my in-laws prefer it that way. I think there's no problem with anyone with just one tv set or like us who have many television sets as long as they can pay the electricity. No offense on but there are really some people who likes or prefers to watch tv in private or they just want to have the freedom to watch any program that they like without interfering with other people.

I respect your privacy. I guess you're right. Some poeple just want to watch TV on their own without disturbance. If you ahev one TV, you just have to watch what the other wants to watch, unless you fight for the remote. I always go do something else when my hubby watches soccer every Friday.

My daughter is like that too. She just wants to watch her Elmo VCD all the time. Sometimes there is very little chance for us to watch the news. That's about all that I watch on TV really.

Hi! I think that will do for us if I only compete with my husband. The kids are actually the main challengers on watching tv. They can't afford not to turn the tv on after a couple of minutes. I am trying my best to give them other activities but they really love watching cartoon channels. Sometimes I can get them glued for minutes on some programs that I watch such as cooking or modeling shows, but it won't take a while and they will be nagging for the cartoons.

When I answer that question I usually say two. One in the family room and one in the basement rec room. However, there is an old floor model tv in the crawl space that is not hooked up to cable. It is simply used for videos and DVDs and barely gets used. We also have two old ones in storage. But, basically, we have two.

One of them is so old you can barely see the picture so it really needs to go to hazardous waste. My husband went last time but he had enough to take with an old computer and heater. The other one is my very first television. It is a dial TV (no remote control) only going up to 13 channels and it is a very small screen. I suppose it would be good for someone for video games or something but I just didn't think anyone would want it. I have not joined Freecycle.

I think two is more than enough. What the two doing in the storage room? If you have no use for them, maybe they should be given away. Are you a member of Freecycle? Sometimes if I have some stuff to give away, I will offer them up at Freecycle.

I wonder if I would give in to my daughter's demand if she wants a TV in her own room when she's older. I don't know. At this moment, she is having the TV to herself most of the time anyways. Thanks for your response!

Hi sydney! I have two tv sets. I have one in my bedroom and one in my livingroom. That's all I need. I only have three rooms and the other room is the kitchen and that's where my computer is! I used to have a small black and white tv in the kitchen, but it had an antena and I decided to throw it out because it was too much trouble to deal with and in February it won't get any picture anymore so it won't be of any use then!

Youhad a black and white TV? I have never seen one in eons. YOu threw it out? You could have sold it to an antique store and fetch a good price!
• Singapore

Oh really! I never thought that they sold them anymore. I'm the one who is outdated, I guess!

No, they were still selling them until recently. They had an adaptor to plug into cars and had a radio. It was only $19.99! Wasn't an antique, I wish!

Hi SydneHazelton, i have 2 TV set at home currently. One in Living room and another in my mother in law's bedroom. The reason is because she would like to have her own movie times whenever she likes to so no need to compromise and tolerate in any manner. For me, i don't like any TV, video or home theater in my bedroom, i don't want to get disturb by that especially when is time to rest or early in the morning. Feel that kind of make people more lazy as everything will on bed.

I don't like to have a TV set in my bedroom. I too do not want to disturbed when I want to sleep. The only time when a similar situation arises is when we go on a vacation and stay in a hotel room where the bed and the TV set is across from each other. No choice but to try to sleep when my hubby wants to stay up to watch TV then. I would love a quiet morning but nowadays that is not possible. My daughter wants to watch her DVD as soon as she wakes up. Sigh!

We have only one in our living room and when I am alone, I never open it and rather spend most of my time online!

I guess one is more than enough, especially when the people in the house prefer to do some other things. We have one TV set. When my daughter is asleep, both of us go online instead of watching TV.

I guess it's a good way to learn how to accommodate to each other and learn some negotiation skills for all the family members. Not easy to please everyone, I guess.

Yup! My uncle has one in the living room and one in each of the of the bedroom. He lives with his old dad (my grandfather) who wants to watch his own shows instead of cartoons. So everyone has one. Gosh! What a waste of electricity!

We don't have cable. I think that that is an extra expense people in this house can live without. I'd rather be on the internet as well and make money instead of watching the TV. Cheers!

I don't think there is a need to have so many TVs in the house. One in every room was already too much, I feel. Now you tell me your friends has two in her room! I'm shocked. It's such a waste of money and electricity. Try save the environment a little, yah?

16 Sep 08
Yeah it is unnecessary to have a bedroom in each room. One or two is good for the household. Yup my friend has 2 tvs in her room. I think thats ridiculous and useless. Im all about going green and she should have more respect for the environment.

We have one television set in the living room, i have a portable dvd with t.v. tuner in my room, my brother has personal computer with t.v tuner in his room and one personal computer in the kitchen with t.v tuner too. I dont know if you would still considered it as t.v. the last three i've mention for i can still watch t.v. program to those thing like just a real television, the only difference with it is it has a lot of function or multi function. We all like to watch television so we make sure we dont miss the tv program we like most.

Do you have three members in your family? That would be sufficient if everyone wants to watch different channels. But I do feel that three is too many.

We have 4 television sets in the house. Three are connected to cable but one is an old black & white set that will be obsolete in a few months. We aren't going to buy a box to connect this older set so we can watch it in the kitchen. I have a television on all the time I am home. Like to keep current with the news or any special reports. Have been watching the latest on the hurricane in Texas this morning and it's so sad. My prayers to the families effected by this hurricane.

You're the seond person in this thread with a Black and white TV! I can't believe they still exist. I thought our old boxy TV is already obsolete, with all these flat screen, digital and what not. I think it's great to keep up with the latest news on TV. Thanks carol!

We have two because the other one, I won during a raffle draw at my place of work, The big one stays at the living room while my prize stays in my room.. but I don't watch TV much..I watch only DVD's and sometimes I watch in the computer itself. So the other TV is rarely opened. Just stays in my room, I hope it won't get ruined.. Happy mylotting.

I think two is more than enough. Since you don't use one much, you still save on the electricity. I just don't understand if there is one in each room. One of the recent responsdent I got has a friend who has two working in a single room. I think that is a bit too much! Hope your TV will still be in good condition for many years to come.

I have three but the ones' in used is only one. The other two.. well.. one of it was bought during my university years which comes along with a video attached to it. It was bought in the UK and cant be used to watch the Malaysian programme directly. It can only be used to watch the satellite TV using the AV connection. We used it to watch the DVD once upon a time but now it just stays there doing nothing. The other one was another 14inch tv which we bought before we moved to our current house. It is in operating but not being used much. The ones in used is a 29inch tv which my hubby loves especially to watch his football... My children loves watching the cartoon and in the end, i can only watch it one all of them are in bed....

I think it's perfectly fine to just use one TV. I think we shall stick to one as well, even when my daughter grows up. She just has to learn to share the time she spends on TV. At this moment, she does not understand that yet, so insists on us switching on to her favourite Elmo VCD all the time, even when we want to watch the news. Some people keep a TV as spare if one breaks down. So far, my old TV has not failed us, thank goodness.
