Cookie Cutter Comments are Irritating!!!

Sorry Not Listening!!! - Why start a discussion if you're not gonna listen???

I was looking around for some decent discussions tonight & I ran into several where the comment to the response was mindless & not very well thought out. One, in particular, I recognized as someone who does this regularly. Personally, I feel if someone takes the time & makes an effort to answer your discussion that you owe them a reasonable comment to their response. In one discussion the subject was very confusing. Several people answered as best they could but also asked a question to clarify. The owner of the discussion, gave a generic thank you with NO regard to their confusion. This happened to a minimum of 3 responses in a row. I find that to be rude & now, when I see a discussion started by this person, I will just skip it as a total waste of time because he doesn't care about the discussion!!! Am I the only one that feels this way??? I would love to hear your take on this!!!

I have deleted people from my friends list for that. One guy I really liked too... I loved his avatar and his discussions were almost always interesting but I could not engage him in a conversation for the life of me... it was basically 'thanks for responding' and no matter what I said or asked or even if I resorted to name calling he would say no more than his original robotic 'thanks for your response'. I don't bother with his discussions anymore. Nor do I respond to discussions where they don't bother to acknowledge your reply at all!!! It is supposed to be a DISCUSSION, not a competition for BR!

AMEN!!! He's not on my friends list. I quit going to his discussions a long time back. I didn't notice who had started the discussion or I probably wouldn't have gone this time. Someone did question him on why he never responds & she also received the same generic response. I didn't even bother to respond. It was a waste of time & I would have gotten p!ssed with the response!!!

I know where you are comin from. I have replied to disscussions with a question in the past and have had them go totally unnoticed or they just give me a thank you. It drives me nuts.

I can understand that a question might get missed quite by accident. But not every question in the discussion!!! Yes, it is frustrating when you put a lot of time & effort into giving a quality response just to be brushed off!!!

"Cookie cutter comments" is a new one for me. I like it! lol. It is definitely obvious sometimes that certain people are just there to create activity for the sake of activity and have no intentions of really engaging anyone. I have come across many a discussion in the past where I have asked a question myself and been completely ignored also. I tend to do exactly what you do and over time if someone never replies to my responses or never answers my questions I will just avoid them in future.

Anybody can miss a question, but 3 in a row is deliberate. Especially with the generic response similar to Thank you, happy mylotting. I think it was a few more words than that but it had the same meaning. Maybe I'm being too sensitive; but, if you're going to ignore my response, then why should I use my valuable time & immense energy to come up with a response???

LadyMarissa, I am in total agreement with you on this. In fact, I was having this discussion elsewhere on this site. I mentioned how some people post only to raise their count to earn money. I feel, just as in a real job, it's the hard workers who put effort into their work who should earn. Maybe if people put in less than so many words, it does not even add to their number count. What's the point of being here if you are going to just write without using any thought processes. I would love to see this post, so if you could PM it to me, I am very interested in seeing it, and possibly commenting, but I will not mention you! LOL

Give me a moment to find it again. You probably won't have to give my name as he should recognize himself. Plus I have commented to other discussions of his exactly how I felt about it!!! He makes a lot of posts for not being here very long.

There are really of those kind of people you are mentioning that is only there to leave non-sense comments. They post to discussions just for the sake of having a post and not for the purpose of contributing something that would broaden the horizon. What a total waste of time reading those non-sense comment. It might lead to a rude conversation if you take them seriously so skipping it would be the best action to take. I roam around here to find quality discussion, if I don't find one then I'll leave and come back after awhile.

I was looking for a quality discussion when I ran up on this one. The discussion wasn't that bad. The responses were legitimate. But then the comments to the responses were half-hearted at best. I will skip this person's discussion completely in the future as I was reminded why I had skipped them in the past!!!

Hi Lady Marissa...I am new to all of this on mylot and earning money here so I'm not really sure how it all works yet. But I was reading through some of the responses to your discussion and I have to say, if people are depending on the money made here they aren't going to care about posting reputable responses to ANY discussion, especially when they are not here for the right reasons. We all need some extra cash but if someone is going to take the time to signh up (and it's not a short process) then they should have enough respect to respond with a quality response rather than just "thanks" or "i agree"....how is that going to help the original poster and if it IS the original poster posting those types of responses, it could be that the discussion or situation may not be "real" just to make more money. It doesn't seem like this person really has the right idea of what mylot is all about.

Sounds to me that you need to read the Guidelines & FAQs. One of the Do's is Please make sure you give your best effort to respond with quality responses. If you don’t know how to respond to a discussion, go on to the next one. Answers like “I don’t know” or “I don’t care” don’t help anyone and will be removed. Here are some of the Don'ts... # Post "Me Too!" messages; add something of substance to the conversation. # Start a new discussion unless you have something of substance to say. # Start discussions asking for one word answers like “Yes or No”. # Thank everyone that responds or comments on your discussion. This will not increase your earnings. IMHO, continuing a discussion is NOT thanking everyone but shows an interest in their opinion. It seems to me that myLot pays MORE for quality than they do quantity. I learned at a very young age that quality is MUCH MORE important than quantity!!!

Hi LadyM..I agree with you too thaat is another reason I don't make that many discussions because I like to have a well thought out one..no matter how many responses it gets,,but yes I too have found someone rather confusing and have answered to the best I can but had a rather abrupt reply so I ignore them and don't answer their discussions...littleowl

hi ladymarissa what I hate is the comments that go thank you for answering and have a good day to each response down the whole page not once differentiating betweens responders almost like a cut and paste answer times twenty. this shows the poster is so bored with answering the responses he or she doesnt give a d amn who responded or even maybe read the responses at all. just a knee jerk thanks and have a good day wow that sure took some thought didnt it? not!

That is almost exactly what this was. I didn't think much about it until a couple of people asked a question & they got the same answer with NO clarification.

people try to start junk discussions and a try to answer junk responses because they need more money here but I think that we can earn more money here by answering to discussions and the responses by giving quality answers. I personally experienced this myself when the types one word answers we get less money rather than when we write good-quality posts.

Yes, you are correct!!! The one guy who ignored the questions in the 3 responses I have noticed before & when I see his name as the owner of a discussion, I just keep going. I'm sure others are doing the same thing. So he may possibly be losing MORE by not paying attention. I have noticed that when I make quality comments to quality responses, my earnings go up considerably. So why would I give just a 2 to 6 word response??? I wouldn't.

I had to turn off the notifications for a couple of 'friends' because their discussions seemed to always be the same - but twisted around so the words were in different places! These discussions, for some reason, attracted over 100 responses - none of which were responded to by the poster. It didn't take me TOO long to work out these people were merely trying to make money by posting a lot, and obviously were not remotely interested in people's opinions OR on having a quality discussion. All the discussions were along the 'What do you do on myLot' and 'Do you enjoy making money on myLot' lines. Hard to answer - and who cared anyway? Maybe you make more money if a lot of people respond - who knows? Whatever - I turned them off.

Hi LadyMarissa, I have had several discussions that I responded to and given a long response and when the came back to me with thir response all I get is thanks I like that, that is all I get from this person and I thought why did give him a long respose? when I only get thi and sometimes I don't even get a reply. Yes, I remember. You were a participant in one of the discussions I found to be so rude. He commented to almost every response with the same BS comment even though several were trying to discuss further. I find that to be rude & insulting!!! I know there are times that a simple Thank you for your response is all that is required. However, when faced with a quality response, I do believe it deserves a quality comment in return. IHO, a discussion is NOT me asking a question & you just responding. A discussion is me asking a question, you responding, me commenting to your response with further insight & then you possible responding further to my comment. That can continue on until one runs out of anything to say. I have heard people here say I don't get paid for that. I do not agree with that statement as the BEST day I had at myLot was when I started a discussion & gave a lengthy comment to almost every response. I do think, they all need to be quality responses & comments in order to get paid. A simple thank you for your response just won't do it!!!

oh, i agree 100% it's like trying to talk to someone who is busy looking around. do you think they are STILL under the impression that you get points for responding? nah, i think they just can't be bothered. they think if i at least acknowledge their response they will be sure to come back when i post other discussions. good for you for seeing this. i think it's a waste of time to respond at all, too.

I don't know which is worse, though, LadyMarissa, those who give the same response to everyone, or those who start a discussion then never even go back to look at the responses. I responded to one several weeks ago. I just popped back in to check it out the other day, the person who started hadn't responded to anybody there. I shrugged it off. Then I responded to another one, and hit submit. I realized as soon as I posted, it was the same person. So, I let it sit there a few days, went back to check it, again, no response from the person. I got curious and looked up several more of his discussions. He starts them, but not once has he ever responded to one. What the heck is the point of that?

Yes, that is rude also. Might I suggest that you do as I plan on doing & do not respond to that person anymore. They are only using everyone to make them money & don't even have the common decency to acknowledge our efforts. I would prefer to earn my money in a real discussion where everyone earns well!!!

The purpose of the sight is discussion. If you haven't got a response to what you read just leave it alone. I'd say the generic answers are form someone who is just trying to get his post numbers up quick without thought or work. Personally I don't bother much if the topic doesn't interest me and if the discussion under an interesting topic is boring I move on. I don't expect responses to my posts but if someone has something useful, or at least interesting, to say I welcome the input. Without it this just becomes randomly posted words.

The discussion was reasonably interesting. I don't expect a response. However, if I'm getting a response, I do expect a quality response. NOT the exact same answer from the last response. If something is said that is not clear & a question to clarify is asked, according to the Guidelines, the owner of the discussion is to respond accordingly. Actually, I did NOT respond after seeing all the cookie cutter answers. I was hoping that fate would bring the member in question to this discussion & make them think. Sometimes newbies just don't know better. I know I didn't when I was new. I'd be involved in a discussion where something was said & the lightbulb would come on & I was like DUH This particular person does it ALL the time & I now avoid any discussion by him. That's money he loses even though it's not much. If this discussion can wake him up & help make him a productive member here so we can ALL earn just a little MORE!!!

I've never given this much thought because I'm more disappointed when I don't get a comment at all. I've responded to several of this myLotter's discussions and she/he does not comment back at all. I still find myself responding to his/her discussions though. But now that you've mentioned about the generic comments, I've seen a lot of those but not to the extent that they don't clarify when someone asks a question. Anyway, I'd just do my own thing, try to comment as best as I could to those who respond to my discussions. We can only hope that others do the same.
