When i make purchases i like to put thought into it and compare prices. I find alot of times things are cheaper to order them online. My friend just called me cheap because We found a really good deal for laptop protectors (skins) BUT after finding one i liked and starting to order it i had to go search for promotional codes for it to get a discount. I'm not a spur of the moment shopper but...its always fun to get things cheaper. I saved myself 6.60 on the item i was purchasing (basically I made my shipping totally free and took 2 dollars off my purchase as well). Have you ever been called cheap? do you search for coupons before making a purchase?

I've been called cheap but it's usually always as a joke. I don't think I'm that cheap though, I buy things whenever I think their worth buying even if they're overpriced. I'm sure your friend is just jealous :P. I don't think it's worth going through all the trouble to save 6.60 cents because you're wasting too much time finding it cheaper. Although it's not a bad thing either because it shows you have patience.

it was $6.60 not 6.60 cents..it only took a few seconds to type it in to a search bar.

My friend I can honestly say that it does not sound like you are cheap, instead it sounds like you are trying to save yourself some money, since everything is getting expensive especially food and gas,and me and my fiance do some online shopping since I agree it is easier and sometimes cheaper, and I do not search for coupons before ordering, but when we ordered a Halo 3 Edition X-box 360 from Wal Mart.com we had it delivered to our local Wal Mart which helped us save like twelve dollars on shipping which is pretty good if you ask me.

I don't think it's cheap, I think it's smart. We look for coupons before we go out to eat! Makes a big difference.

I have been called cheap a few times and at first it hurt my feelings. I work hard to make my budget work and to be honest with you there are a lot of people out there that cant do it. I take pride in being able to afford my family on one income and part of being able to do that is knowing when to say no and when to shop around for the deal I want. I always search online codes before ever online purchase. Money saved is money earned and I need to think of it that way. It is like being called a nerd in school. People can make fun of us for being frugal but who ends up better after all is said and done?

Uh what's the problem on being cheap _. There are no cons, all pluses, I mean your saving money and helping that people whose stores are really good. As well as making the rip offs go broke xD. Well, I myself like to look for cheap stuff. I don't think that wasting 100$ on something that costs me like 15$ somewhere else is a smart thing to do. Although some stuff really can't be found cheaper when new. It's always good to look around for a bit, invest some time, to then invest the money. Period.

I have also been called chap before; it doesn't bother me at all. I know it, I'll be the first person to tell you so, and it's always a very nice feeling when you get something for less than what you are "supposed" to pay for something. Whether it's a sale, or a coupon, or something like that, it's always nice to have a little extra savings, especially the way things are going lately. I will search for coupons, discount codes, anything to make the price go down a little more. I subscribe to the Sunday paper to clip coupons so that when I go shopping I can use those to save even more on the prices of things that I am buying.

I have never been called cheap. I do the same as you. If I find something online that I want that is pretty cheap, I search for promotional codes myself. I like to save money where ever I can. I mean, those codes are put into place for a reason right? So why not use them? I think it's silly that you wouldn't look for codes especially if you know they exist. Saving money anyway that you can is really nice and there is nothing wrong with it. Some people just don't get that it's OK to save money on things and that there is nothing wrong with cutting some corners.

Some people dont...and then others after going "you're so cheap" turn around and say theyre going to do the same thing. Theres a bunch of forums that people post the codes for everyone on there that are awesome

I've never been called cheap, but I'd take it as a compliment! Your friend should have called you smart, in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with trying to save money on the things you can. Maybe the next time your friend is broke you should ask him/her if he/she didn't wish he/she were "cheap" too. ;) There's absolutely nothing wrong with being frugal, especially during these tough economic times.

Hi saundly, I have been called cheap too! Except we are not cheap! That is the wrong word to use! We are extremely experienced sales shoppers who know how to purchase products at their most cost effective prices! (how do you like that spin?) My bf calls me cheap all the time and he is the cheapest person I have ever met! He will agree to one thing, I know how to bargain shop! There is nothing wrong with getting the most for your money! I love to get a bargain! I will not buy something unless it's on sale! When I grocery shop, I will try to wait for the items I need to go on sale even if it means waiting an extra week or two. Once in a while if I am desperate or I am already in the store I will purchse something that isn't on sale just to save time and not have to go back to the store. But, when it comes to clothes or shoes or most things, they have to be on sale! Especially, big ticket items. Like I'm looking for a computer desk, not unless I find one on sale! I commend you for what you did! That was by no means being cheap, that was being cost efficient! Tell that to your friend! Tell them Opal said so!

I like that spin! I love bargain shopping to...and find it HARD to pay full price for things. I like work where i get things at cost...and if we can find a coupon the suppliers will take then we get that off our purchase price.

I have never experience being called cheap but i do love to shop a cheaper items. I am very conscious about price and the brand. I see to it that the quality is good yet not expensive. There is nothing wrong with being cheap it just means that we shop wisely. At times right now where the prices of every goods goes up i think it is just right to be cheap at the stuff we bought.

I'm careful about what i buy too...buying things cheap if they are junk is still a rip off. Even cheaper these days is trying not to buy new things and fixing old or recycling things others are upgrading from.

You are not cheap, you are thrifty and wise with your money. Considering the shipping and handling you only saved 2.00, but, save 2.00 here and there for a month and you've saved quite a bit. Good bargain hunting!

Don't let people bother you calling you cheap. You are not cheap; rather you are discerning. You are among the majority of people who love to shop and get a good offer for what you buy. It's part of the excitement of shopping, to get the best price for a same product that is sold in many places by many sellers. Otherwise why do the majority of people get thrilled by sales, get excited about browsing through catalogs for special deals and discount coupons, check internet sites to compare prices, and also why thrift shops thrive? All for the satisfaction of landing a great deal when buying something. Only those whose pockets are very loaded, who do not love to shop or who do not have any time to spend shopping will just pay any price for a product and end up buying from expensive stores. I would say they are foolish shoppers who have too much money to part.

If you want to know cheap you need to come meet the managing director of the company I work for. You would not believe how he does the business of spending the company's money to buy things we all need to do our work. Stationey is hard to get, the photocopier needs serious repairs or replacing and we have needed a new computer printer for so long the bad habit we have is becoming the norm. You don't know cheap until you get to meet this guy.

Now, that's worse than being cheap. That's both stingy and irresponsible, and he expects the office to be able to perform normally? I have a story to relate about being cheap, but this was many years ago. I have a friend who works for a big organization managing buildings and estates. One day they decided to install speakers in the lifts to play music or make announcements. So the staff got some quotes and did the evaluation and presented the findings to their boss. The process was done objectively, so usually the recommendations would be accepted because this was based on lowest bid received. But not this boss. He instructed the staff to go out there and look for cheaper bids. The staff spent time and effort hunting around the various shops, and in the end, they got another lower bid that satisfied the boss. Guess what? The price they got eventually was 5 cents cheaper than than one first recommended!!! And the cost (in terms of effort, time and transport) for finding this 5 cents cheaper bid? A hell lot more I'd say, and I'm sure you can appreciate the difference. To me, that's penny wise, pound foolish. Even the staff had a good laugh when he related the story to me.

Cheap indeed, well thats ridiculous.I am always hunting for voucher codes and promotional codes to save a few pence, and why not?the idea of getting just a tiny amount knocked off of the goods appeals to me,and if I can save that small sum then I will!its a small sum that can be put to use elsewhere,it can be saved towards another bill that will need it.

I totally agree. I dont get how some people can be willing to not do that. and on top of that procrastinate so much on other things (passport...etc) that they have to pay a RUSH fee to get the stoopid thing on time.

next time point out to your friend that at least now you can afford at least one more gallon of gas and something on the side with that savings alone...maybe they'll get the point about how serious being frugal can be. I always search for coupons...online in the paper, on products, on product web sites...I use a lot of the rebates.....it may only seem a like a little but it all adds up. You wanna hear cheap...listen to this. I combine my shopping with my mother to get her snr citizens discount....hey 10% is 10%....plus she needs help shopping and I am paying for it all anyhow.

Yes, I've been called cheap but for a different reason. I was called cheap because I chose to buy my Mother a birthday gift for her 90th birthday (she was given a party) myself rather than go in with my two brothers. I also let them foot the bill for the party because of things that happened. My older brother's wife called me cheap! Well, so what! I think I probably paid almost as much for my Mother's gift (a eyelet-cut jacket that she wore to the party) than what they went in together and bought, not that they ever knew that's what I had bought. I even took my Mother with me to get it! To top it all, she didn't say this and some other hateful things to my face. She left a message on my phone last Christmas morning. I had kept the message all this year until my husband accidentally deleted it awhile back. I just considered the source!

Aww thats not good. Some people get upset over parties and stuff...unnecessary stress. Was the message from you mom (and a good one?) or a mean one from your sister-inlaw? I agree that one has to consider the source of comments.

The message on the phone was from my sister-in-law. And it was a mean one! There were lots of things she said besides calling me cheap. That happened on Christmas day, causing my Mother not to get to come to my house (they led me to believe they were taking dinner to her). Then, this birthday in March, she tired to half way apologize TO my husband, not to me, in a restaurant where we had taken Mother for dinner. My husband just sort of brushed her off and he said, had he been somewhere he could have talked he'd have had lots to say to her!
