Exercise?

We've all heard that exercise is the route to slim, well-toned bodies. Why, then, when so many of us are typing away like crazy for several hours each day, don't we all have skinny fingers? I was watching one of the secretaries at work today, and she types so fast, her fingers are barely visible. Still, they're like little fat sausages, even though this is not a fat woman. Doesn't make sense, does it?

It can also be the same of the woman's hand, we all have different shapes whatever we are fit or not. I like you theory and it makes sense but sometimes life or even our body does not have to make sense, it just is.

Since it's almost always hot in Miami, sweat is much too much a part of our life here!

We can dream! I want all the exercise my fingers get to work out my body! Sweating. to me, is just about as unpleasant as things get, so it's just another reason to hate exercise.

That is weird that you mention that. Not long ago I had a conversation with one of my friends and she was doing everything she could to sweat, I mean like wear a big jacket because she was not sweating while exercising on her aparment complex gym. I am ok with sweating I guess. Not ok when I am walking and need to be places and I am sweating but it is part of life.

Hi Joanne, I think that exercise alone doesn't make you skinny or shapely. My twin is not only dieting all the time but they walk and workout at least 3 times a week. She's never had the weight problem like me but she's not skinny anymore like when she was a kid. The finger theory is an interesting thought. Even with a weight problem, I've always had skinny fingers and fairly slim legs. Go figure! leenie

Fingers and eyebrows are all the skinny things on me. I am dieting, though, and trying to do something about it. NOT fun! Joanne

I have little ears, small nose, skinny fingers and narrow feet. My arms and legs aren't bad either, but the rest of my weight is head to thighs. What a drag. At least you are working on it. Keep up the good work sweetie. leenie

Well, there's not really alot of muscles IN the fingers...it's mostly in the hand...and the hand doesn't do alot when you're typing, it's all your fingers and tendons and what have you. It's like asking if you lift your index finger constantly for two days straight if it will become powerful, I guess. But it is kinda funny, when you think about it.

LOL~ I love it!! I think that is so funny. If my fingers were to get skinny, they wouldn't match with my body as well:) It doesn't make any sense though, does it. Does this give us a reason to stop exercising our bodies, since it doesn't work on our fingers?

Could be muscles and not fat. Liberace used to have large fingers. It was amazing to watch him play the piano. He wore big rings on each finger and that made each finger look huge. But I think it was all muscle. As for skinny fingers and typing, not sure that would apply for me. I type VERY fast, but all it gets me is pain in my hands.

I really don't think it's the exercise that makes my fingers skinny, although I type a lot and very fast. It's just a genetic thing. I get those nasty hand cramps, too.

Men can be so cute! My husband loves my little skinny fingers, too. No matter whether my weight is up or down, my hands are great. If only the rest of me were as stable!

Good question. Might be that her fingers are swollen from some medical condition. Water retention will do it for sure. If I type most of the day, my fingers are a bit swollen when I get up the following morning.

Many people just have fat fingers and no matter how hard they work at the keyboard, they still have fat fingers. That doesn't relate at all to the rest of their bodies, just as chunky little folks like me an have long, skinny fingers.

It's also interesting to note that concert pianists tend to have the same stumpy little sausage fingers, too! Very strange - so maybe there is a lot of muscle build-up.

How can we explain people with big butts, then? Or fat thighs? I've seen a lot of people who are well-shaped except for those areas. Meanwhile, I really need to lose a LOT!

That is really funny, I haven't noticed that. You would think with all that exercise at least her fingers would be thin. I just do Yoga so I don't expect to loose weight. I just do it for strech and balance.

Some people tell me yoga's a great way to lose weight, but I tried it many years ago, and it did nothing for my weight at all. Sure did feel great, though!

All that comes to mind is that she must have a lot of muscles in her fingers. to make them appear so stocky.. LOL does that make any sense? I know what you mean though I keep saying that I need to start working out, But I want a work out buddy to help keep me motivated. One day I will realize that only I can make me do it, not others. I would love to have someone to go walking with!

The weather keeps me in air conditioning, so I bought a treadmill. I got the kind without a motor, so all the work is done by me. To be perfectly honest, I'm surprised that I use it, because everyone I know who has one just uses it to hang jackets on or something like that. Meanwhile, I'm quite overweight, but I have long, thin fingers!
