Do you have any home remedies to stop a cold?

Right now, it feels as if I'm about to get a really bad cold. I was feeling fine all day, but once the temperature dropped down to about sixty degrees, I started feeling really groggy. My throat and eyes hurt. I'm not ready to be sick and I'd like to fight it. If you knew that you were about to get a cold, what would you do? Do you have any home remedies that you would use to keep yourself from developing a bad cold?

My BF has just got over his case of man flu. I gave him cough medicine and cold and flu sachets that you mix with hot water to drink. Thats all it takes for our cold to go after a few days. We also have throat sweets/soothers aswell.

Getting rid of cold is easy. Cold is caused by a virus, usually it lowers your immune response to certain organisms. You can prevent this by having bed rest. You should cut off your activities. Try to get rest. Then, water therapy. drink a lot at least 8 to 10 glasses a day to flush out the bacteria and loosen the secretions coming from your nose, and increase your vitamin C- more juices and fruits. That would increase your immune response to fight colds. Then, if you have sore throat, try to gurgle warm water with salt, then, that would relieve irritation. Hoping that it would help you. thanks.

If I have the time, I rest for a couple of days and drink orange juice and chicken soup. If I have to work, I drink airborne. Most people think it is preventative, but it really works. You have to keep drinking it though. it helps me get rid of a cold in 2 days.

Take your vitamins. Especially vitamin C and zinc. My sister swears by those for helping reduce the duration of a cold. Get plenty of rest too. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hello, I think you have allergies because typically our eyes do not get hurt with colds, but from what you have described I assumed that your allergies have reached your eyes already. Anyways, drink plenty of water and try taking a medicine with anti-histamine, it might lessen the exposure to allergies.

OMG! That thought had not occurred to me. The feeling of sickness came on to me, all of a sudden. Not like with a cold. It was not gradual at all. And thinking about it now, my spouse did bring some wild flowers into the house tonight when he got home from work. I'm always allergic to those. Yeesh! I will make haste to rid myself of those. Thanks for the advice.

Cider vinegar and Honey either as a syrup to soothe the throat or stirred into water and served as a hot drink will help. I like to get fresh pineapple when this is happening to me, as well. The other thing I have heard is to eat horseradish, and if you cannot stand to eat it, breathe the fumes from it. Hot tea with lemon and honey also is helpful. Hope you can fight it off.

Well i rey to srink lots and lots of hot stuff and wear lots of warm clothes. I think this is just a simple precaution which everyone takes. I think you just try your best not to catch a cold at all.

Once while i took my then baby daughter to the doctor i over heard the doctors talking about them being sick. They all said they almost like over dose with vitamin C. I have tried this many times since that time . Althought Vit C does not cure a cold its pretty good at fighting it. But i recently heard that Vit C is bad for cancer.

I take enchinacea and vitamin C, drink a lot of water, rest and try to stay out of the cold, or be dressed warmly. That usually works, but most of the time I do not do so before I actually get sick though I intend to.

Take chicken soup (any kind) put garlic in it (i.e. powder, cloves...) the hotter that you eat it the better. Also, echanecia (not sure of the spelling), zinc and as much vitamin c as you can get your hands on. Also, cranberry (solid, juice...) keep as warm as possible. This should keep you from even getting a cold. If you already have a cold this will flush it out of your system a lot quicker.

I have found that eating garlic helps me to avoid a cold, and if I get one and can catch it when is first starts, I put a drop of low dose (3%) FOOD GRADE hydrogen peroxide in each ear and sometimes that will stop it. Cold germs are generally air-born, and apparently, they don't like the smell of garlic, if you have it in your system. But the problem with that is, most other people don't like the smell of garlic either!

What I do can only stop it if you get it right at first scrath of you throat. I use 1000 mg Vit C 100 mg B complex and ecconasia(not sure how that is spelled) about 2 times a day for 2 or 3 days. this usually stops it. But if you've caught it, you can use the same stuff and add hot tea, chicken soup, an over the counter cold med. and get lots of rest. Then you hope for good luck.

I have used whiskey for several years. I can't hardly stand the taste of it but I can use enough of it to stop a cold. At the first sign of a cold I gargle with straight whiskey. I usually do it a couple of times before I go to bed. If I catch it quick enough I will be fine the next morning. I just take some whiskey in my mouth and swish it around to be sure I get it all in my mouth and then swallow it real slow and make sure you get it all in your throat. Whiskey is one of the best germ killers you can get and it doesn't have a bunch of junk in it like the mouth washes. It doesn't take much. A pint of it usually lasts me a couple of years at least.

I would splurge myself with lots of liquid like water and citrus juice coz it contains vitamin C which is very good in fighthing the virus causing colds. I also suggest that you take a good full rest for your body to recuperate and be able to fight colds. i hope you get well soon. =)
