Broccoli? For Breakfast????!!!!!

Yep, I had broccoli for breakfast this morning! Know wny? Because that is what I WANTED! I think it is kind of sad that we get locked into things, sometimes. Like there are certain things you have for lunch or dinner, but you don't eat them for breakfast because it is "just wrong". WHY is it wrong? I am not big on so called breakfast foods. I do eat oatmeal for breakfast. But, I am just as likely to have it for lunch or dinner with a slice of mutligrain toast, as I am for breakfast. So, I got up this morning, wanting broccoli, so what? Is that weird? Do I care? What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten for breakfast?

About a week ago I made spinach for breakfast. I had a very strong craving for it. And actually, if you follow body cycles for what foods you should be eating in each part of the day, when you wake up, your body is in fasting mode and the first thing you want to do in the morning is wake up your cleansing mode. For that you should eat fruits and veggies. So actually, your body would love it if you ate more veggies for breakfast. Great job!

I love me some fruits and veggies, any time. Usually when I have left overs from dinner the night before, I will pull out the veggies and eat them. I used to sneak my brothers' and sister's vegetables off their plates when Mom wasn't watching and eat them.*L*

Hi bo'...I don't normally eat reakfast at all sometimes once in a blue moon and then I only have a slice of toast..but as for you I really don't think it is weird to have broccoli for breakfast if that is what you want and not strange either..it is so good for you so it is also a healthy breakfast...littleowl

I have more breakfast at dinner than I do for breakfast, littleowl. When I was in school, I ate breakfast every morning. When I got married, not so much. I don't know why, but, I just didn't want it. Now, I have started eating my lunches or dinners for breakfast. I just don't find breakfast foods appealing.

I used to have breakfast in bed, but now that my wife has changed her habits and likes "it" later in the day, I now have cornflakes at the kitchen table, BORING!

The most unusual thing I've ever eaten for breakfast?? Hmmm I can't be specific, but I've been known to eat the leftovers from supper if it was something I liked cold, like salmon patties, or pizza, or potato salad, or. . .you name it. Why cook "breakfast" if you want lunch or dinner food in the morning?

Oh, I have been known to eat salmon patties and potato salad right out of the fridge. And cold cornbread dressing is the best! Oh, yeah, and I think I had chicken salad at your place, one morning. *L* Now I know where I get it.

*LOL* I have a nephew who calls broccoli trees, too. He's 23 and still calls them that. Sometimes, in the evening, I want something sweet. If I can't figure out what it is I want, I will have a bowl of frosted mini wheats. It is kind of healthy, and a little sweet and it takes care of the craving.

he's just turned 18 so he's not exactly a nipper either lol yeh exactly just right for a snack or meal in my case lol

That is definitely a pretty strange thing to have for breakfast! lol. But there is no question that it's healthy. I wouldn't necessarily call it weird but it's certainly a little unusual to have broccoli as the first meal of the day after getting up. I have to push myself to eat any breakfast whatsoever and lately have been having red grapefruit. I can't recall anything overly strange I have had but I guess left over dinner from the night before like chicken or stir fry etc is the closest I get to strange I suppose.

I told PJ that I decided on broccoli for breakfast because it makes most people gassy. If I eat it for breakfast, when I am the only one home, it gives me time to get it all out of my system and air the house out before everyone gets home.*L*

When I was a kid, my mom used to try to force me to eat oatmeal...different cereals for breakfast etc. I really couldn't and still can't stand the taste of cereal. I also didn't like things like pancakes & waffles for breakfast. I did like toast and eggs but we only had that on weekends. Finally, frustrated from our daily battle, she asked my doctor for suggestions. He asked me what I would like to eat in the morning. I loved left over pizza, cheeseburgers....any food that was left over from dinner the night before. The doctor told my mom to let me eat whatever I wanted and that most of the stuff I listed was healthier than much of the cereals and whatnot that kids got for breakfast anyway. I didn't expect her to cook me anything special so I just heated up left overs and had that for breakfast. ....end of the battle!

Yeah, I used to try to get my son to eat "normal" breakfasts, too. The pediatrician told me that kids will ask for what their bodies need. So, peanut butter and waffles, or cold chicken, or even turkey sandwiches got to be an everyday breakfast when he was little.

I don't believe in something being restricted to breakfast, dinner, or lunch. I just eat whatever I feel like eating. I've had pizza for breakfast. Spaghetti. Chicken. You name it and i've had it for breakfast. I don't care for breakfast foods either. Ocassionally I like a Omlette with some hot buttered biscuits or a bowl of cereal but thats it.

Mmmmmmm, now hot biscuits I might do in the mornings, especially if I have a nice piece of white meat chicken. Biscuit and chicken sandwich for breakfast sounds pretty good.

I guess some people consider foods in certain categories, such as breakfast foods (typically cereal, pancakes, etc), lunches (such as sandwiches), and dinners (such as entrees of sorts I suppose)... I think food is food. If you want broccoli in the morning for your breakfast, what IS wrong with that? I think nothing is! I have had veggie chili for breakfast, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, veggie hot dogs with nacho cheese, of course re-heated pizza, and many other things some may consider "strange" for the first meal of the day. On the same note, I have had cereal for lunch, pancakes for dinner, and other foods considered breakfast foods later in the day. I don't set a time for what type of food I eat. As long as I provide variety and nutrients in my diet, and my stomach can handle it, I don't see any problem with eating anything at anytime!

I just had some vegetarian chili for the first time last week. It was really good. I had made chili pie for dinner, and my daughter's best friend brought some of her chili over and I made hers from her chili. There was a serving left over, and that is what I had for breakfast the next morning. Pretty good stuff.

I would eat brocoli for breakfast if it was in an omelet, I love broccoli and cheese omelets or spinach and cheese omelets, yummy. Probably the weirdest thing I have ever eaten for breakfast is fish. I was still pretty young and spent the night at a friends house. They were not breakfast eaters, but I have always had to eat breakfast. All they really had was fish, so I had fish, it was kind of strange, but it satisfied the morning hunger.

I eat left over fish for breakfast, from time to time. Certain kinds of fish, prepared a certain way is pretty good cold.

I agree, I had bananas tonight. I have what I want when I want it. There is no law that saids I can't eat what I want, when I want it. There were some mornings when I wanted to eat what I cooked for dinner the night before.

I love, love, love bananas! And, I have often had dinner from the night before for breakfast. I am glad there are lots of weird people out there. Come to think of it, if there are that many of us out there, maybe the people who eat breakfast for breakfast are the weird ones, don't you think?*L*

Strangest? The previous night's left over chinese take away, ditto Indian, Pizza and oven chips (fries). Tins and tins of macaroni cheese which I hate and had to eat because my Mum gave me a case (and I was poor). My Granny used to roast me a whole chicken for my breakfast (I didn't eat it all!). My aunt once made me a pile of pancakes and liberally sprinkled them with salt instead of sugar. But never trees. Or broccoli as you call it.

The strangest thing that I have ever eaten for breakfast is leftover pizza or chinese takeaway from the night before. Never brocolli, I like it but would never eat it early in a morning! But you are right there is no reason why we should not eat what we want to for breakfast or any meal!

It tastes even better second time around, and is great for curing a hangover! Not that I have had one for many years now of course, but when I used to drink a lot it was what I would eat first thing the next morning!

From the looks of all the responses here, pizza and Chinese food are two breakfast favorites. I certainly don't turn my nose up at them.

hi bohemian heart No thats not weird at all. broccoli is good for you and noone says you cannot eat that anytime you want. My weird things are cold leftover pizza, and around the holidays I love to sneak a piece of pumpkin or mincemeat pie those are not as good for you as veggies however. but cold pizza for breakfast is a thing with me for some reason.

I love cold pizza, Hatley. I also like fried spaghetti. Just take the left over spaghetti, dump it in a hot skillet and let it brown on one side, flip it and brown the other side. Good stuff! Crunchy on the outside, still soft spaghetti on the inside.

I don't really thing that there should be anything strange for breakfast. Eggs, bacon and hash browns are typical, but not all that good for you. I've had salad for breakfast, especially in the summer. If it's really hot out, I frequently have cold cereal and milk for lunch. It's getting colder now, so I like soup for breakfast, this monring I had cream of broccoli soup (we must think alike) with a couple of slices of pumpernickle bread. It was great. Cold pizza and leftover chinese food are always good too. I really like Janes idea of ice cream with a bit of fruit on it. If some one asks, depending on who it is, you can call it a chilled fruit dish...lol. Mine would probably be a triple scoop dish with a blueberry on top .

Oh, yeah. I had some homemade broccoli cheese soup for breakfast the other morning. We had made chicken spaghetti the night before and there was about a bowl full of the sauce left over. I just got that, steamed some broccoli, put a handful of cheese in with it, and viola! My breakfast!
