It's Taco Night

How often do you have tacos? How do you prepare them? What sort of toppings do you like on yours? We do tacos every month, or every couple months depending. Sometimes we serve them with cheese quesadillas, sometimes with nachos covered in meat, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheese. Sometimes we'll do chicken tacos instead of ground beef. Everyone in my family likes their taco different. I like soft shells, while hubby likes crunchy shells. My son likes a soft shell wrapped around a crunchy one. How do you do your taco night?

We have tacos every month or so. They are something that everyone in our house likes. I prefer the crunchy shells, but everyone else likes the soft ones. We serve them with sour cream, salsa, cheese , tomatoes and lettuce. I have tried the Old Elpaso chicken taco kit before and it was really good. It had a spicy ranch sauce that came with it that I really liked. We havn't had them in awhile, I tink I'll add them to this weeks shopping list.

I have never seen the sauce by itself, what is the name of it? We can't buy Ortega brand here, the only brand availible for taco's that I have ever seen is Old Elpaso and store brands.

I have had that sauce before. I first had it in the kit and then I saw big bottles of it one day at the store. I have one in the fridge now, but it is almost empty. Time to buy more!

We use Ortega for everything taco that we do, it's hubby's preferred brand. I didn't use a ranch sauce, but they still came out very good.

Most of the time when we have tacos it turns into taco salads. My son likes his made like nachos or soft shelled tacos with just meat, cheese, sour cream, and black olives. I like mine made into salads with lots of lettuce, meat, pinto beans, cheese, onion, black olive, sour cream, salsa, Western dressing, taco sauce, and crushed chips on top.

If I needed that many toppings, I probably wouldn't have it as often, it sounds expensive. When I was a kid we'd have black olives on taco night, but we don't anymore, except on rare occasions when I'm in the mood.

It would be if I had a big family like you. My kids don't eat all the other stuff, so it does not cost too much. Initially maybe, but I can get a few taco nights out of the salsa, Western dressing, taco sauce and the other stuff can be used for something else.

We don't have them as much as we'd like. Probably just don't think about it. We get both soft and hard shells. Cheese, sour cream, meat. Sometimes some beans, just depends what everyone is in the mood for. Even some black olives. We set up the counter like a buffet, and everyone gets to make their own. A bit of help for the little ones of course.

We actually have Taco Tuesday at our house. Every Tuesday night we have Tacos. Sometimes I will change up the meat and we will have chicken tacos, or pork tacos. Usually it is just simply groung beef tacos though. It is nice because everyone knows what to expect and I get a night where I don't have to plan anything new. It is a win, win situation.

There's nothing I can eat on a weekly basis, I'd get tired of it, no matter how much I tried to change it up.

I have never made tacos. I have made burritos a few times with sauce. Tacos are too hard to eat...too messy. If I want tacos I get them at taco bell. Actually as much as I cook lots of various dishes from various countries, I haven't done a lot of Mexican kinds of foods although I love it. I guess I haven't had anyone to really teach me how to make it well. I don't want to do it half way.

I know they are easy to make, but they are messy to eat and I don't like to be picking up food and having it falling out all over the place. I don't like using the regular tortillas because to me those are not tacos. When I want tacos I want the regular hard shell, but at taco bell I get the double decker so that the soft shell is helping to hold the hard shell together. I like the crunch of the hard shell. Even then it is messy to eat. I have never seen the point of them as a regular meal because of that. I like the taco in the bag concept. Easy to eat and still get all the good flavors and crunch. But I have as yet never made those either.

Isn't using the soft tortilla and rolling it up actually a dry burrito? I guess I am also a stickler for making things authentic and to me a taco has to have the hard shell. My ex-daughter-in-law made what she called tacos with the tortillas which she just laid flat on the plate and covered over with toppings. Not tacos either to me. As I was reading some of the other responses it reminded me that I also love some taco pizza's. But again, I eat those with a fork until the piece is small enough that the toppings are not falling off. I even eat my home made sloppy joe sandwiches by putting them on the plate and eating with a fork because they are too messy.

Tacos are easy because you can buy the seasoning at the store. I personally use a soft shell for tacos and roll the shell up so it doesn't all fall out. The kids use the hard shells and then use a fork to scoop up what has fallen out.

We don't have them very often. It's hard to have taco's with a 2 year old. We like hamburg, cheese (the type varies), lettuce, tomatoe, taco sauce and sour cream. I like soft and hard shells. The rest of the families tastes vary. I haven't ever made chicken taco's but I do like them. We usually end up crushing our hard shells and mixing everything together like a salad.

I give my toddler and even the baby some tacos and they do just fine with them. They don't always eat them like a taco, they usually turn theirs into taco salads, but hey, it's healthy, there's veggies and stuff!

I think my 2 year old thinks it's a toy instead of food. It ends up in her hair and all over her clothes instead of in her mouth.

I was just thinking the other night that we haven't had tacos in quite some time. We love them and it is fun making them. We usually just serve them alone but have so many toppings it becomes a meal with 2 or 3 tacos eaten. We throw in the refried beans to add a little punch. I like your idea of chicken tacos, but my hubby doesn't care for chicken much. Oh well...another lifetime...hehe.

You could try it and see what he thinks. Do 1 lb chicken and 1 lb beef, in case he doesn't like the chicken. Then you have left overs for a taco salad the next day at lunch!

We do taco night about once a month too. Our night sounds a lot like yours except that we all like soft tacos so I don't even buy the crunchy ones. But like you, sometimes we do chicken instead of ground beef, sometimes we do more of a nacho thing. The one constant is that we must have sour crean and we must have guacamole, but other than that I can switch up fixin's and have a little fun with it. I like to do tacos when I'm hosting a girls night at my house. It is fun and easy and a good way to visiting around the fixing table.

We have tacos about once a month. We use the hard shells most of the time, but we also use flour tortillas. Toppings are lettuce tomato, cheese and salsa. Hope you had a great taco night!

Yummy! I love tacos too! We have been having them more often in my house lately. I prefer the crunchy shells and half of my kids prefer the soft flour tortillas. So I always serve both types so everyone is happy. I like mine with sour cream, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes and a side of salsa. One of my sons only likes it with the flour tortillas, meat, cheese and lime juice squeezed on it. My daughter likes it with the soft flour tortilla and sour cream, meat, and cheese. I think I will be making these in the next few days now because my mouth is watering for some tacos now! Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

We normally have either tacos or burritos a couple times a month. My hard tacos always turn into a taco salad.... easier to eat! Ingredients are pretty similar to other posters, just with a no-beef twist. We use Morningstar veggie crumbles (a beef substitute) and/or refried beans, sour cream, diced tomato, shredded lettuce, olives and salsa. Lately, we've been having chicken fajitas every week or two. Grabbing a fajita seasoning packet makes this really easy - then it's just adding chicken, bell pepper, onions, and sliced tomato. Top with sour cream and roll up in a soft taco shell and you're done! This is making me hungry... and not for the lasagna cooking at the moment...

Chicken fajitas sound good. Me and the kids would like it. Unfortunatly hubby wouldn't... but maybe he could have his plain like he takes his taco! Think I might try it in the coming weeks.

We used to buy the Gordita kits from the store. It like a soft taco but thicker. It came with this awesome ranch sauce and then a zesty red sauce. We would put shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoe, onion, salsa, and sour cream on them. They are really good. We haven't made them in a while cause we don't have a stove to cook the meat on. I know recently they took one of those sauces out. I can't think if it was the red or the ranch but I am sad cause i liked both of them!

This sounds great. I was wondering what I should make for dinner tonight. I was not feeling like ordering another pizza, and now I think that Im going to try making taco's. I usually just order them from Taco bell, but I did find some great recepies when I looked online. I know that when I eat tacos they need to have lots of sour cream, cheese and they need to be a little spicey. Thanks for the dinner idea.

Taco nights for my family are not only yummy but very fun. We really enjoy that occasion. Usually my hubby will prepare the meat you put inside and I will cut up all the fixens. I use to buy the taco kits but now we like to spice it up a bit by buying the shells, taco mix all seperately. Sometimes we will buy tortilla chips instead of using shells. For some reason when we've been planning a taco night, we've been making taco salads instead. (I think that's why we've been not buying taco shells.) When I cut up my fixens, I usually have lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. When the hamburger, taco mix and onions are finished, we usually serve it with fries. Have a great day and enjoy your taco night!

We have tacos 2 or 3 times a month. It is an easy and tasty meal for my wife to fix. We have ours with ground beef, taco seasoning, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. Occasionally we will have some tomatoes with them, and I always chop up a jalepeno to eat with mine. I love mine spicey.
