Well we usually puit our tree up on Thanksgiving day but did not this year. So as my wife cooked dinner I went into the basement and brought up our 6 foot artificial tree, ornaments, and lights etc. I've wrapped a lot of gifts as well. As she cooked, I put the tree up, getting it done in a couple hours time. This is a shot of it with the presents underneath it. Is your tree up? Do you go real or fake tyree each year? Anything special about the tree you use each year? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi Grandpa Bob! That is really an exquisite ornament. I was really looking at and I can't figure out how she was able to make such an intricate looking piece! She truly had quite the artistic talent! I guess you take after her! She really did some beautiful work with ornaments and those houses that she had sewn. I wish I could do stuff like that! You are very lucky to have kept them and in such perfect condition for all these years! That alone is amazing! I hope when they are passed down through the family that they will alway be kept in such perfect condition! Thanks for showing us these beautiful pieces of your family treasures.

Well this is about my tree but...... It's a styrofoam shell then she wraps them with angel hair string then adds beads, sequins or other things, straight pins and hat pins hold them in place. They are a lot of work I recall. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~~

Oooops! Sorry Grandpa Bob! I don't know how that happened! I could have sworn after I posted to the photo that I was answering the ornament discussion. Oh I guess I should be in the idiot discussion! As for the tree, it is gorgeous! I came here to answer this discussion now! I swear I don't know what happened! And I'm sober! That's scary! I just love the tree and the prezzies look great too! I don't have my tree up yet. I don't think I can put the big tree up because of my cats. They will climb to the top and knock it over. So I may have to settle for the 2 footer! But, it's just too little and I really want to put the 6 footer up! I guess I'll have to wait and see! But, you did an outstanding job on yours!

Aren't you on the ball! nah, our tree is not up yet. We usually go to the woods (or farm) and cut one on the anniversary of my birth - December 2nd. But, I think we will wait a little longer this year as our son is away at college and won't be home till a little later.... your wife is fortunate that you take such initiative... my husband usually goes to be when we put up everything. he just can not handle it. it is, for some reason, too stressful for him.

Christmas tree 2008 - here is the Christmas me tree this year.
Oh your picture looks lovely. I put my tree up yesterday. It isn't much and not very big. But it will work for what we need it for. Today between the tree and everything on it. I have had to only spend about 5 bucks at the max. I also added some decoration around the blinds in the living room and a decoration on the front door.

Oh no, tree is not real. It is a pre lite fake one that was given to us two years ago. Small but will get the job done for what we need it for.

We used to always have a real tree, the bigger the better. Now I have just a small table top size tree since I don't have room for a big one at this time. It already has lights on it too so that much is done when I take it out of the box. I have not put mine up yet, my daughter just left today and we just visited and had a good time. Something special about my tree?? The only ornaments that go on my tree are ornaments that I have bought for grandkids. It started when my first granddaughter was born. Now I have enough grandkids and ornaments that they are all I use. Right now I just use ones from the past few years since the tree is smaller.

I miss having a real tree. When the kids were at home we always cut our own tree each year. Was a great family tradition carried on from when I was small. Now with dad I need an articifial one for his and the trees safety. I also have a tiny tree I set on my coffee taqble against the side window. It has lights and ornaments as well. Some year that may be the only tree I use. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

As a child we would always go to a place where we could cut down our own tree, and it was always a great day! We would then set the tree up that night, and have hot chocolate with extra marshmallows as it was usually cold and their was snow on the ground. Now we just put up an artificial tree, it's more convenient, less mess (no pine needles, no watering, etc), and of course it;s better for the environment this way too! Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!! PurpleTeddyBear

Your wife must have had a lovely surprise when she finished cooking dinner and saw the finished effect. Well done to you! We don't have a tree this year. My daughters have to work on Christmas day and won't be coming home (they live 4,000 and 2,000 kms away) ... we'll have to have special Christmases with them later on in January.

Your friends in mylot land are so proud of you, you did it all by yourself. I usually decorate my tree with clear lights, silver garland and crystal and blown glass ornaments. It took me alot of years of collecting them to have enough for a big tree. I had started out with a small tree for the ornaments. Then a few years ago, I got left with a litter of kittens, couldn't let them starve or freeze. I wasn't going to let them destroy my stuff. So I changed my decorations on my tree, Plastic, hehe. I am so glad I did that too. The kittens would climb in the tree and knock things off of it. The next year, the one cat had babies, the momma would climb in the tree, and call her kittens to climb up in there with her. So now I basically have an indestructable tree. Its still pretty, we learned to use twist ties to keep the ornaments on the tree. I still need to get my stuff out, I did bring the boxes in from the shed. I have them sitting in the kitchen. I use a fake tree, its so much safer. I like having a tree up for a long time. Its not good to have a real tree up that long.

I vary yeaqr to year actually on how I decorate mine. One year all red ornaments with red garland and lights. Then varied ornaments and multi colored lights. Green all around one year. Depends on my moods actually the time I decide to get ready to set it up. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~~

I would love a real tree but since my apartment is so small all I put up is a very small fiber optic tree, it lights up pretty nice. I go to where they sell the real trees and they give me a branch that has fallen off one of the trees and I put that on top of my radiator and when the heat comes up you can smell the pine.

I kinda like those small fiber optic trees. When we had an apartment we had a real tree though with the kids at home. Neat idea with the radiator trick and a pine branch. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

No our tree isn't up yet, but we have a very special tree, both real and not real.. Years ago we had an artificial tree but soon it was getting very difficult because the holes in the pole were wearing out and the branches were not setting in right..So, one year my husband found a small dying pine tree and cut it down..After cutting it to size, he then drilled hole for the branches to fit in. And, I took the circle things you get with fake trees to cover the pole, and hung them on a hanger to make a wreath, because it didn't matter if the trunk was seen, just made the tree look all the more real..

I bought a new tree this year, well, new to me, it is an artificial one.. I bought it at a tag sale this past summer and paid 10.00 for it.. I think that it is special because it is bigger than the one that I had before.. It is a 7-ft tree and when I got the tree out, I found the original price tag for when it was purchased new last year, the purchase price was 299.99.. It is going to be very nice when and if I get around to decorating it.. It has been standing in the corner of the living room for about a week and I haven't had time to decorate it.. Finding this bargain last summer enabled me to give my old tree, which was about 2 years old to my son and his new wife, since this is their first Christmas that they are going to decorate, they married last December 1st, and just now are getting a place of their own to decorate.. I am going to take tomorrow to decorate the house, (outside) and the fence and also the tree.. If I can find enough time, I am also going to put out my Christmas village..

My home - All lit up for the holiday.
Good deal. Passing on older trees to family is a great thing as it can start a tradition as well. My house is all lit up for a few weeks already. Here's a shot of it taken mid November. I now have icicle lights and other lights on my garage and garage eave as well after this shot was taken. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~~

We usually have our lit up by Thanksgiving night also, but since my husband has been having so much trouble with the arteries in his legs, it is getting harder for him to climb the ladder to get them on the house and my son works all of the time so I can't seem to get it going and they will not let me do it. When and if I do get it done, I am going to add a picture also.. Your house looks really good, ready for old Saint Nick..

Your tree looks great! We use the artificial one too now. Back in the day when I was home and could monitor it being watered and look after it I always put up a realone. I actually prefer a realone but they can b dangerous if you don't have the time to check on them regularly. Mine is up and decorated I made a few ornaments last night and finished it off. Have a great Christmas!

Christmas tree in the dark - One of my christmas trees in the dark. Not a great picture
I have just finished putting up my tree too I will put on a photograph for you too see it. I think you have done a really excellent job. Your tree is beautiful and decorated well. It looks lovely and I am glad you shared the photograph. I have two smaller more modern optic fibre trees. A black one in my lounge decorated with silver baubles and a green one in my smaller front room decorated in gold ornaments. They did not take a good photograph tonight but when I get some presents underneath them maybe it will look much better.

My gold christmas tree in the other small room - This is my other gold tree. Needs some more baubles for it. Will look better when I wrap some presents for underneath it.
I need to get some more baubles for it. It is optic fibre and you are not meant to decorate them but it looked unfinished to me.

Well, Grandpa Bob, I think I need to get a picture of my tree for anyone to believe it. I don't think anyone could imagine how my tree really looks unless I showed a photo of it. If I can get my parent's digital camera to use then I'll post it. My mom tried to get me to help put up my parent's Christmas tree. My dad doesn't like to help because he says it reminds him of growing up, when his mom would have him string popcorn and he would help set up the tree. She is gone now, and with his dad dying a long time before his mother did, he was always very loving with his mom. His dad although a good man, was a hard man. Which made time with his mom even more special.

We have a fake tree, this year it is a 3ft fibre optic one and I have a few decorations to go on it as well. I have not put it up yet I may do it this weekend as I am in some serious need of some sparkle in my life right now so this may help me some. I cannot believe you have gifts under your tree already I would not dare put them under mine they would be opened in seconds. My mum and dad used to do it and I would wait until they went downstairs into the pub they ran and I would cheat and tear a corner to try and see what I had!

Well you did a good job on that tree...its pretty. I won't be putting mine up for another week or so, I don't know why, I just wait till I get in the mood to do it, just like with everything else, thats when I start putting up my lights and stuff outside too. I wished I could get my husband to help with things like that, but he could care less if we had a tree or not, I always call him the Grinch...lol. I put up a fake tree, theres not really anything special about it, its one of those pre-lit trees, I've always wanted one of those, and I finally got one, its two years old now....Have a nice day

Hello Growing up we always had a real tree .prob around the 12th we will be going to get one and I can't wait ! A few years ago we bought one way to early and it started to die on us LOL. I love to how it fills the room with pine . We usually just put up an array of decor on the tree that we collected over the years . When me and my fiance bought our house and had our first here we bought all sorts of things . I love my snowflakes that seem to glitter and look real nice with white lights . Your tree looks very nice and I love how you can see the detail

I usually put up my tree with the family the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year I haven't even thought of doing yet. I'm not looking forward to the holidays this year. We have an artificial tree that the kids usually end up undecorating before the end of the first week that it's up.
