Apparently, today is 'D' Day!

I heard on the radio earlier that today is 'D' Day! Apparently, it is the day that most married couples are likely to ask for a divorce! Do you think this is true? Who comes up with this stuff? Who decides that today is the day that all these things happen? Have had other ridiculous things like 'the day most people will be depressed', 'the day most people will be stressed'! What do you think of this? Have you heard of any similar days that you can tell us about? Do you know how these days are determined and if they are of any use to society?! or is it just for laughs...

To be honest, i have never heard of this day. I wonder how people determined these days, perhaps it's all about coincidence, or maybe there was a story behind. Any one knows about it?

Ha I have never heard of these days. But if they did make up this day it's probably because of coincidence I guess. That coupled together with a very weird sense of humor. But I guess it was probably determined just like valentines day was determined. Some person was probably glad that they got a divorce and wanted to make it a special day. I could understand if they say that January is the season of divorce then it would make more sense. But who would really get a divorce on D day. I wonder how many actually celebrate this day? kinda scary if you ask me!!!

Wow, I didn't know there was such a day. I personally don't think they are anything more than just to make society laugh or get a rise out of people. It would be hard and time consuming to conduct research based solely on "what day most people are depressed". I don't think it could be scientific at all. So it's just for the fun of it, in my opinion.

I have not heard of any such thing, and i think it doesnt in my country atleast. If its true maybe its the result of some researches or some data of some company or organisation. Well, if they exsist really they don't affect me atleast coz i am not in mood of divorce to my husband

I have never heard of this before, and there are no studies that I know of that talk about any particular day either, so I think it is one of those made up days for fun, but if they called it D Day they are so wrong D Day is an important day in history, the signified the battles of Normandy during the second world war D Day is June 6, 1944 and it was the beginning of the end of world war II

I have no doubt that somebody called it that, but keep it as divorce day when we have special in history already called D-Day, that was my point, thanks for the link hon.

Hi, It's really crazy why people invent all the "D" days, "B" days, "S" days and all that. Even I don't know who decides all this days, but I think there are SMS communities of youngsters who keep exchanging poetry, jokes, insults with each other on text messages, I think they invent such days and greet each other. Regards, AJ-Rox

I've heard people are most likely to die at 4am, because that's when our metabolic state is at its weakest and we are vulnerable! There's probably some scientific fact here, as the data has been compiled over many years from hospital records - as for the other stuff, who knows? Strangely, my daughter just told me she's become engaged! Lucky for some ...

I don't think so, but I am like you who really decides what day is what around here. The only thing that I can conclude is that it is after christmas everyone is broke and things are stressful around the house.

Hey marina! Happy New Year to you! Nice to see you again! I don't know who thinks up this stupid crap! Where do they come up with this stuff! Who does make it up? How can they say what day people will ask for a divorce over all other days in the year? It makes absolutely no sense! It is totally ridiculous! I think they just say it to get peoples reactions and attention! It can't possibly be true or of any real significance! I don't know anyone who has decided to get a divorce today do you?

I'm sure it's just statistical data that is giving us this info. It's not international "divorce your spouse day" or anything. Not a holiday to be observed but rather something that was noticed while looking at stats. I think it is simply food for thought. We could speculate as to why this day is so popular for this occurrence. I would think it would have to do with people deciding to make a new start in the new year or possibly just that they wanted to make it through the holidays before making such a decision.

Interesting. I guess they come up with this because of the stress of the holidays? Or maybe the weather or the length of days? So it would be interesting to see if this was also true in societies that have the opposite seasons, like Canada vs. Australia, or in cultures that have major holidays at different times of the year.
@marina321 (4556)

Yup, would be interesting to know... I suppose it may also be around the time the hols are over and people wanting to better themselves in the new year and sometimes that includes ditching the spouse!

I think that media are just saying these things to attract the attention of the public. The people in the media are trying to earn money by coming up with these ridiculous stories which are designed to attract attention. I'm not even sure if what we read on the paper or heard in the news are glossed up to appear more interesting. Well, I guess that this is what we get for being so hooked on the media.

That is crazy just to label today as "D" day. I know that I will not be celebrating it in any way. I haven't heard anything crazier than that. I think people who were just bored were like oh, lets see what I can name this day. That is crazy.

I have never heard of this before. I'm sure that it is based on statistical facts, and it is probably accurate.I think one reason for this might be because of the time of the year. We just celebrated new year's and that stands for a new begining. New year, new you, so to say. I think that it would make sense, because people might want to make a change in their lives, and they decide that this is the year to do it. They might also want to wait a week or two after the holidays until everthing is back to normal. I have never heard of this day before, but it does not surprise me. I also do not think that I have heard of any other days like this.
@marina321 (4556)

I think the statistical facts are more based around the month of jan being for new beginnings and thus many new divorcees... Wonder why this day in particular though Maybe more divorces started..no idea...
