Can't Someone Clean up the Interests List?

United States

I just unknowingly spent about an hour looking through 179 pages of Mylot Interests and I don't think I was anywhere near the end. I never even found what I was looking for. Why can't they be in Alphabetical order? And why can't someone combine all the ones that are supposed to say the same thing- For example, there is an interest called Mylot, and Mylot.com, and www.mylot.com, and Mylots, and even one spelled Mlyots. When someone starts to create a new interest, why can't a box pop up that says "Did you mean Mylot?" and just enter them in the one that was already created? I saw Hotmail and hotmail.com and www.hotmail.com over and over again. There was even one called "I daily visits hotmail.com and yahoo.com" !! Is anyone else bothered by this? Or am I just irritable? Lol. Is there a way we can suggest they fix it?

hi momalisa65...i've been frustrated too with the interests. i can't find what i really want sometimes. and since they don't want us to create a similar discussion they need to make it easier to scout out the topic we want to start to see if there are any like it. have fun hehe.

Oh i wish someone would! it would make so much more sense and they would have fewer "groups" to go through.

Actually the alphabetical thing has already been suggested to mylot. They wrote back saying that they'll take it into consideration during their next upgrade, whenever that'll be. Since it's the new year hopefully it won't be long now. For the other suggestion you could always contact mylot admin and suggest it yourself. If you don't hear anything back from them I'll be more than happy to help suggest it. Like you said there are way too many interests that are the same, which just clutters up the interests area making it difficult to find the ones we want to list discussions under. Just a little tip, if you do write to them be sure to include this link so they can see that others on here are for your idea. Let me know how it works out!

Ok, nevermind. I did it. I just picked "Other" and send them a message. Thanks!

I got a reply from Mylot today! Here is what they said: "We have made some changes to this problem. If users misspell a word, it automatically goes under the correctly spelled interest. So in other words, they are all linked. We noticed that this was a problem awhile ago and this was our solution so we wouldn't lose any one's interests, discussions, etc. The alphabetical order suggestion is a good one. We will definitely take this into consideration. Please keep giving us great ideas to help improve myLot. We greatly appreciate your suggestions!"

I have thought about this sooo many times momalisa. I've even brought it up in a discussion I've responded to about if there was one thing you would want changed about mylot.. what would that be? I told them, definitly the categories/interests and asked why can't this be alphabetical? I would suggest that you write to mylot administration and ask them that question because I don't think any mylot would have the authority to clean up the mess. Have a good day

I sent a suggestion to Mylot, and they sent me a response today. Look at #2 on the list of replies to my discussion. I pasted it there.

It does seem to be a little out of control doesn't it? I went through and thinned out my interest, and added some too. I think everybody wants to have a category that they created no matter how silly it might be. I'm guilty of committing a few additions to the mylot interests bank but at least I started an original conversation with them.

I have noticed this myself and I definitely think it would be better if there was some organization to it. Alphabetical order would be great or the should do it by subject and put all the pictures for that subject together. That would definitely be the best way to go I think. Perhaps you should write to owners of MyLot and suggest it. It would be awesome if they went for it.

Alphabetic order sounds like a good idea to me. I really like that we can create our own interests, though, and if we keep that functionality that inevitably means we'll have the "I daily visits hotmail.com and yahoo.com" type interests An auto suggest feature that would still allow you to create an interest if you want to would be cool, though.

You are right. It is terrible confusing. Sometimes, at the top of the pages, I will see a couple for mylot, making money, etc. There should be one topic for each of the interests. I think people just start an interest they want and never look around to see if there is already an interest. Maybe mylot can clean it up and get rid of all the extra interests groups. Sure would look a lot better and be easier to navigate. I've had trouble just finding sports!

I sure hope they do that! In the meantime, could you just do a search at the top of the page to look for your topic? Did/would that help you for now?

I heartily concur. It'd be useful to be able to search the interests, and also good to be able to view them as a lists. I hope MyLot reads your discussion and finds a solution to this because it's very frustrating and reflects poorly on the status of MyLot as a respectable and well-designed sight people want to spend time with. Thanks for the discussion!

I agree,I'm a new user on mylot and i found the fact that in the interests there are numerous overlapping items,Very odd,Why can't there say just be one interest icon for computing,Rather than having them dotted all over the place?Just an idea that i think will help.

I don't even bother going through all those pages. I manually type in what I want to add and if it is in there already there will be an avatar when the page reloads. If it's not in there there will be a default graffic from the site that I can change if I so choose. It takes too long to go through all those interests to see if yours is in there already or not.
