A few days ago my friend here on mylot wrote a discussion about asking why people use a frozen steak on a black eye and why couldn't it be something else that is frozen. She wanted to know if it was a myth, old wives tale or did it really work. I promised I would research it for her. http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/62771/linda_ann_nickerson.html?message=true&contact=true&sent=true the link is not a referral just information so have you ever had a black eye? How did you get it? Did you put something on it? Have you ever tried a piece of Steak?

I remember one time I went home late, coming home from real estate business activity while riding in a jeepney 2 guys boarded one sitting at my side the other infront. When the jeepney stopped at the next block two guys came in, immediately punched at the guy besides me what a strange his fist went straight to my face. Mind you, that's the very first black eye, I ever had. With my anger I didn't feel the pain. The guys inside apologized, but I won't forget that incident, having a blak eye not intended for me.

I have had one black eye as a result from my brother when I was 12 when we were playing and the swing hit me in the face. But I have never used a steak on it. Where I came from that meant wasted meat and it just wasn't done. If anything we would get a towel with ice in it and that was it. The link did not take us to the link about the black eye..I checked twice and although I didn't go through 6 pages or more of them to find out I didn't have time. Sorry.

I have often used items from my freezer, wrapped in a towel to reduce swelling. Never thought it had to be steak. Only reason I can think of to use steak instead of a package of peas is the density of the product. The peas would thaw much faster, so the meat would give a longer period of cold for relief.

Poorly Becca - My youngest daughter when she had her bad eyes
No ive never had a black eye, my youngest daughter did though when she was about 16 months old or so. She had a very bad case of conjunctivitus it swelled both her eyes up and she was left with some really nasty bruising around both eyes bless her. Ive added a picture that was taken at the start of the illness too it got a lot worse and when cleared was left with two black eyes

I had black eyes from my rhinoplasty and I did not use a steak for that. I just used a specially designed ice pack for the eyes. It looked like a sleeping mask but was not too cold to hurt. It worked really well. I would never put raw meat on myself whether it is frozen or not. Just doesn't sound safe.

I'm not really sure. I have always heard about putting steak on a black eye but I do not have any experience with this. I have never had a black eye. I think and ice pack would be best.

Hi Winterose, I have had one black eye that I can remember and my dads dog done it with his claw and nobody believed it was the dog that had done it LOL. I think at the time I just put an ice pack on it to help bring out the bruising. Huggles. Ellie :D

I've a some sort of a black eye ones, when I was still with my ex. Although he was aggressive, he gave me a bit of a black eye by accident. We were asleep and when he turned over in his sleep, his elbow bumped my eye. That woke me up :-) It wasn't that bad, so I never put anything on it. I think all I would put on is was camouflage make-up. Don't know about the steak :-)

we are talking to get down the swelling and you need ice for that, but not steak that is not good.

I was born with a black eye. The doctor used forceps to pull me out, and as a result it left me with a black eye. I've had a black eye one other time, but that was because of a car accident. I think anything cold helps a black eye. Which is good because I never have steak in my freezer. lol

Over 30 years ago I was hit in the eye by a baseball bat. I think the lady in the school office gave me ice to put on it. I didn't want them to call my parents and tell them because I was supposed to go home with a friend after school and I was afraid my parnets wouldn't let me if they knew about the black eye. Didn't try steak on it. I don't think I could handle having raw meat on my face.

I've had a few black eyes but never used a steak on them. A bag of frozen veggies works good for me because it will mold itself around the eye easily.

I've had two black eyes. I had a crooked bone in my nose and had the bone taken out. They had to break my nose to do it and when I woke up I had two of the biggest black eyes I had ever seen. No steak, nothing, I just waited it out. My daughter also had two black eyes when she got hit between them with a base ball. She was only little too, like two or three. It was so sad. To top it all off, just a few days before, her big brother cut almost all her hair off and put it in a baggie for some strange reason. She looked like Frankensteines daughter. I think the steak idea was just to get something cold on it to stop the swelling. I think ice would do the same. Although I don't think anything will take the bruising away, you just have to let it run it's course or try a little makeup.
