I am not religious person and I won't deny that I have never read a bible before. But I am not against it so one day I might take a bible in my hand and read it. I have heard that bible isn't a book you definitely have to read from first page to the last one, it is a book you can read the first paragraph and then continue with fifth paragraph. The ones who have read the bible, is it worth it?

I am not religious, anymore, either. I think I am fair game for debating the Bible and Christianity, because I grew up in that atmosphere and have read the entire Bible. Is it worth it? It is worth a skim, to be aware of what people are talking about (though, take this with a grain of salt, why? Because most people talking about the bible and its passages haven't even read the whole thing and isolate single verses, often out of context). Like I said, skim it; some of it is just beyond pointless. The Psalms are mostly pointless as they are basically songs and poems to God, some chapters just list family history's, and even many Proverbs are equally pointless. May as well skip Revelation too, unless you want to read it from a graphic art type of way (which makes it cool). Honestly, if you want to get the jist of the bible, read Genesis and John.

I agree that most people talking about the Bible and its passages haven't read the whole thing. But I also suspect that those who reject don't understand Christian theology because they have not read theology... for example, how many would have read systematic theology or New Testament theology etc before they reject Chrisitianity? My feeling is that most people who reject have not read enough...

The Bible can be considered a tool, an instruction manual for people like us. Like what I have read in Philippians 1:27 - It says our manner of life be worthy of the Gospel. I find it very rewarding. Thanks.

I have read part of the Bible and I can say I found it really dry and boring. However, I have heard there are versions that are more readable. The one I tried was the King James version and I cannot recommend it. I got through the first 2 chapters or whatever you'd call them, in the New Testament. And then I stayed at a hotel once and their Bible also had the Old Testament so I read Genesis. It wasn't worth it to me, hence I stopped reading. I would consider reading the Bible (and other religious texts, especially Jewish texts), but only if they were available as text files or something like that so that I could plug them into my text to speech program and read it as audio. At the time I started my Bible reading project, I was just kind of interested in what Christians find so great about this book. And honestly, I really didn't see it but maybe someone could recommend a different version.

I have read the entire Bible four times, and I am doing for the fifth time. It is worth. It's a great experience to be able to finish it. As one reads it again and again one realises the profundity of the book. There are lot of things in the Bible, and trying to understand them requires such humility to learn from others. I try to finish reading the whole once a year. I have been doing that for some years now.

I have read the Bible twice and have been horrified. The cruelty, hatred, violence, intolerance in the Bible is enough to make a man shudder. Children definitely should not read it. However, the new testament is better than the old, especially the four gospels. It is not worth reading, but one should read it because it is considered to be word of God by millions of people. It is good to know what this word contains. One should come to know what a terrible character is worshipped as God by most people of this planet.

I haven't read the Bible all the way through yet. I have read the complete New Testament twice so far, but the Old Testament I am having a hard time making my way through.

No, I have not. Although, of course, I own the book. I think that can be my project to be completed by January 1, 2010. My friend says reading the entire Bible made her an atheist. I say she's not a writer and doesn't understand the concept of metaphor. We'll see who wins. I'm pretty confident in my own belief system.

I haven't just read the bible from cover to cover. I'll might read this story, or maybe that story, but not the whole book. Sorry to say, but the majority of the time when I do pick up the bible is when I have a crisis in my life. Short on money, sick, filling depressed and some more other things. I believe if we read it more offend then we won't suffer so much. Thank you for reminding me that I need to read the bible.

Yes, I have read the whole bible but only once. My grandmother read it every year. Every night she would read different parts but she would get thru the whole book every year and start over again. My b/f being a religious man having worked as a missionary has 7 bibles through out our home. I think it would be worth reading.

Read twice from cover to cover. Read the first round in English. The second time in Chinese. I am not a Christian either, even though I do believe in a Creator. I do believe that whatever we do, we are accountable for it. Bible is a collection of 66 books, written over a span of 1,600 years. You can start reading any little book you want. But I advise you to read a children Bible story book first. At least you know that Abraham is before King David, Isaiah, Josiah and Jesus Christ. So even if you "jump" about in the reading of entire Bible, you wont get confused by who is who. There are many characters using the same names. Could be very confusing if you mix it up. Read a bit about the writer of each little books before you start reading. You will learn the background of the writing. Hope it helps. Almost all of us start the Bible many times, and able to complete only once.
