Obama has angered Great Britain

Barack Obama is planning to stage a lavish party and reception for Martin McGuiness the former chief of the Irish Republican Army. Obama plans to spend two hours with McGuiness - over 4 times the amount of time he spent with Prime Minister Gordon Brown. McGuiness the former terrorist boss of the IRA will be greeted at the front door of the White House - Gordon Brown was forced to enter by a non-descript side entrance. McGuiness, who is now the Deputy First Minister in Northern Irland has been invited to a gala reception at the White House to celebrate St. Patricks Day. The snub of Brown has infuriated both Downing Street and the British Emabassy in Washington. The number of people in the British delegation was slashed but the doors are wide open for the Irish. This is even a sorer point today here in the UK. The IRA terrorists are still active - just this past weekend - two British soldiers in Ireland were shot and killed by IRA gunmen who attacked the barracks where British soldiers were housed. Seems like our President is acting to infuriate our closest allies while shaking the hands of terrorists. He has said he wants to get closer ties with the Taliban - who will be his next guest - Osama Bin Laden?

It doesn't concern you that he is ticking off long-standing allies? Is it okay with you that he seeking out the Taliban to make up with them even though they are still hiding Osama bin Laden? And that after he had vowed to get him and to increase troops over there to achieve that goal. And that is just one enemy he suddenly wants the US to be friends with while it seems he is doing his best to step on the toes of those we call our friends... This kind of 'change' doesn't bother you at all? Are you with the Obama administration whose stuff proclaimed that to the US Britain is just simply one of a 190 other nations in the world? Relations with them are not more important than relations with a little country such as for example, oh, I don't know, Lichtenstein? Yes, Britain might be a small country, but through their Empire they have great influence. A whole continent down under, and our neighbor to the north, just parts of it. By now, I couldn't blame them when they would decide not to follow our call for aid anymore when it comes to fighting our wars. Just in case you have forgotten, they fought with us in Iraq and Afghanistan, and paid dearly for their support with bombings in London. Next time they might not risk it and simply stay out of it. Think our soon to be new friends China and Russia will come to our defense? Don't think so. As far as I know they laughed at that 'secret' letter Obama sent to Putin for example. But hey, an American President is just ticking off another leader of a foreign country, right? Maybe he should practice a better choice in who he wants to tick off.

Well let's see, DVDs he can't even watch in Britain because it's a different region... being brought in some side door for a little small talk instead of front door and press conference as usual... Churchill bust handed back with a thanks but no thanks.. even here in the US it's insulting to return a gift to the giver... And no, it's not off topic, it's right on topic. The Brits are insulted, and to add more to it, now the Irish guy is ushered in the front door and given the whole nine yards. Something is obviously wrong and all 'goof-ups' belong together. And you brought it up, with the "ticking off foreign leaders part". You obviously have no grasp of what kind of impact this particular tick off may have. Therefore I simply asked if you are okay with Obama rubbing shoulders with our enemies now. But here you are not even answering that question. And you claim you are not an Obama supporter? Every post I have read of you is pretty much in support of whatever he has done. Just like now. "Obama just cant win with is opposition". He in fact could have given a cheap gift as long as it would have been thoughtful. Giving those DVDs, not even of Hollywood historic value quality btw but a random selection of just whatever, and the poor guy can't even watch them, lol. And obviously it's not just the DVDs (funny how you got back down to that, obviously you didn't bother reading the rest of my post, maybe you should), but everything else that happened. Yep, it could have been a simple mistake if it would have just come down to handing over a stupid gift, but treating the Prime Minister the way he did speaks volumes.. and the position the Obama administration is taking towards Britain was latest made clear when they stated that Britain is not more important and no different than any of the other 190 nations around the world.... well, then they should treat all the same way, but if what the OP posted is true it looks like Ireland is now more important. I guess you didn't read that post either and just jumped to the conclusion that this is yet another discussion about the DVDs

yep yep just as I have suspected all along!!! I live in AMerica, and I thought it very odd that this time inour country we would elect someone who had direct affiliation with terrorists and not even bat an eye....this proves my suspicions of the president, and I find it odd that no one believed the things said about Obama during the race. I knew we'd be sorry we elected him...(we meaning America in general, as I didnt vote for him)

I am not saying he is a terrorist I am saying that he has direct affiliation with them. And he is obviously making nice with them. So, it is worrying considering those things.

Im sorry, I didnt mean to make light of your opinion. Many people share your opinion. And, there are people who see GWBush as a terrorist. His ties to big oil companies, and Saudi Arabian royalty... eh the list goes on, but I dont care to be labeled as a consipracy theorist. However, hours after the 911 attacks, all planes in USA were grounded. Except of course for the charter air line that was rushing the visiting Saudi Arabian ryal family members out of America. Personally, I was more worried about a president with terrorist ties when Bush was in the office. But I can understand if people are afraid of the same with Obama. Its all a matter of angles.

Hubby and I were talking about the fiasco with the gifts to the Brown's from the 0bama's the other day and how he already had insulted them by returning the Churchill bust. I also thought it was rude that while the Brown's were visiting there were no dinners or anything planned for both couples. Now they are having a gala for the McGuiness guy...I have nothing against Ireland...I think it's a beautiful country but why should there be two different standards of manners here. I think there's some personal history that makes 0bama not like the Britain's and that's why he's being so rude to them. It wouldn't surprise me. As for the terrorists, 0bama seems determined to befriend them all and he doesn't seem to care who he offends in the process. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Yet again, I had to search through foreign media to find this story. Not a single mention of it in any American news source. Either way, this surprises me less than the Gordon Brown issue. We already know that Obama has a soft spot for terrorists. In his world their activities have an expiration date at which point they are no longer accountable for their actions as terrorist.

Haha what? Are you for real? I did read the discussion.. and many others like it. All I said was "Oh gee! An american president ticking off other world leaders! That NEVER happens!!" It was an observation. If you want my honest opinion, I dont care if Obama gave the PM a DvD box set, and I dont care if the English feel jilted. If that ticks you off, thats something you as a person has to work out, but I wont be made the target. Since when does America care about what the rest of the world thinks of us? Oh wait... when its a Democrat ticking off world leaders, THEN its ok to attack him. Because when Bush smirked and pissed off the UN, it was cute. Amirite?

Isn't it pitiful, we can't get any real news anymore. It's like we live in countries like Russia or China where the media is government controlled and anything negative about the government will simply not be published. Then again, looks like people don't pay much attention anyway and just swallow the kool-aid. Just like II2aTee, who apparently didn't even read the OP's discussion but simply jumped to the conclusion that this is again just about the DVDs. And somehow doesn't get away from the DVDs either. He simply doesn't read what's posted. And looks like people are satisfied with any little explanation. That's what they have boiled it down to now. It's pity of the Brits to be upset about a cheap gift. Let's forget everything around it. If relations sour, it's the Brits fault for having a stick up their behind. It's just a gift! Let's simply forget the rest of it. Make people forget that those DVDs were indeed minor in the grand scheme of this now, especially, if the OP is right.

No, you obviously did not read the discussion because it is very obvious that you think it's still all about the DVDs. GO READ THE CONTENT! And no, when Bush went to war over the UN's head, it was not cute but a disaster. But that's another matter entirely. And guess what, the Brits were at our side, all the way! Let's see, what do we care about the rest of the world? Wow, ever been outside the country? Ever looked where most of our products are made? I venture a guess here, but you have no idea about international politics, do you? Why should you? You don't even bother to read all the information. What a pity! Well, keep you head in the sand. It might be a safer place to be anyway.

You know what they say about making friends with your enemies...right? Isn't peace what we are looking for? How else are we going to get it if we don't start communicating with the enemy?

Seems that Obama has made a few mistakes, and amazingly he has admitted to some that he has made previously (which other presidents don't ever to until after there presidency). Strange that he would do such a thing to Great Britain, but hopefully he will learn from his mistakes.

Hello Us2owls, Would you please share your source with us. This is so troubling that the facts need to be checked and rechecked. I'm especially curious if your source is the U.S. or a foreign media outlet. Thanks, I appreciate it!

It has been in the new here in the UK - I read the first article in the New of the World - our Sunday paper - it is on page 2 - titled Obama IRA Row - I hope you can read it from this www.notw.co.uk There is a lot more about what happened - the two soldiers killed were un-armed and trying to protect 2 delivery boys delivering pizza. Here is the site to read this. www.thesun.co.uk there are about 4 or more pages on it.

Wow, so the goof-up with the Brits was indeed intentional. This is terrible news. How can we push away our closest allies? What new world order does Obama have in store for us? Is this really what America wants? Is this what the Obama supporters want and expected to happen? This administration is starting to take a scary new course.
