Colon cleansing?

There's an infomercial on my television now. They are trying to sell me a colon cleansing product. I have a friend who was on a "detoxification" diet. Do you think these things are helpful or do you think it's pure nonsense?

It's best to check the product out first, perhaps with your doctor, but also online through a health site. It's a very good idea to cleanse your colon, but a lot of these "natural" products, especially the ones in hard tablet form, have added chemicals. If you're going to cleanse with a natural product, then look for capsules containing the pure herb, tinctuses or teas. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

For me i do a colon cleanse every 4 months, the brand that i use is renew life. They say that all disease starts in the colon, so why not keep it cleaned out. I have also added a product called salba to my diet, because it has a lot of fiber in it, and it helps keep me regular.

it is pure hype. The only thing that will get cleaned out enough to make a difference is your wallet. I just read about it in a magazine a few weeks ago. Start eating healthier. More fruits, more veggies, more water. Less processed food and you will be better off.

You get what you pay for. Most doctors are not in favor of these things.

Pure nonsense. You do not need it. If you eat properly you do not need it. If you want to do it, you can fast on your own. Many people do. Just make sure you get plenty of fiber and fluids and you will be fine.

Those infomercials are on for just one thing and that is to part you from your money. If you think you need a colon cleansing talk to your Dr. our intestines are full of good bacteria and those colon cleansing can upset that balance and could do more harm than good. If you are regular with the bms than that is keeping your colon clean. There is a lot of good sounding garbage out there so one needs to be careful.

I don't think it could hurt but then eat fiber natural foods and your colon will be cleansed as well.

I personally think that these don't offer any benefit. I would not recommend them to anyone at all. But if anyone wants to use them they can go ahead - I won't stop you either!

I think, without knowing, that it's somewhere in between the two extremes. I would suspect it to be kind of good for the body to be rid of those wastes, but I don't know if it's as helpful as they'd claim.

You have to check them out thoroughly first. Before you try out any product that's out there, you have to ask your physician or your doctor. Colon cleansing is important as it will keep you away from colon cancers.

well..if what they say is true, and it builds up over time it might be a good idea.i imagine as long as it's not too strong it might be ok every now and then.it can't be good if stuff sits in your intestine. i think i saw the commercial you mean. that shot of the 3ft long "leftovers" made me want to hurl.

lol ewwwww I didn't see that shot. I've just caught parts of the informercial a few times. What I found somewhat funny is people saying that it made them feel "lighter. They talk about it making your stomach "flatter". Although that sounds good to me, I wouldn't buy the stuff. I just wondered what other people thought about it. As I said, I have a friend who belives in "detoxifying" her body. For me, If I felt like I needed any sort of "cleansing" I'd probably just try to stick to a healthier diet for a while, and drink lots of water.

I can't tell you where I have done all my reading...as it has been a lot, a year ago last September 23, I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis! It was suggested by persons, NOT the Dr. that colon cleansing would be a good thing. I spent the better part of 5 months researching it on the Net, it was about 50% leaning towards doing it (and then read the small print) the article was written by the companies producing the "cleansers." So, I stayed away from the net, and researched libraries/and TV. Dr. "Oz" a regular on Oprah, and the Doctor's Show by Dr. Phil also say it is a huge hype! My research concurs. And to me, if it were true, it would save me pain/grief! A Naturopath..Dr. Malthouse in Victoria, B.C., suggests that a 48 hour clear fluid fast, followed by a 48 hour Juice fast, such as V-8, and all fruits, is a very effective detox/cleanse, so I am convinced this is just another hype for your dollar. But it is your dollar...and today, they are few and far between! For a person with Diverticulitis, colon cleansing is a good thing, so I am just saying...NOT for me! Cheers!

I think they are all pretty much useless. I had a boss who swore by them but starting doing them more and more frequently as they stopped being effective. I think as long as you eat properly and drink sufficient water, there is no need for a detox. As long as there are people willing to buy these products they will keep appearing. In the UK there has been quite a lot of media coverage of the fact that detox is a waste of time.

I do not believe in using any product that is available over the counter.I would rather use some natural product. If you need to flush your system and cleanse it. Try this home remedy.Take 2 tablespoons of fenugreek(methi) coarsely powder it in your mixie.Put this powder in a cup add some curd or yoghurt mix well and have it on empty stomach.Drink lots of hot or warm water. It works wonders.I have this everyday.Only later do I have my morning coffee or tea.It really cleanses my system and keeps me feeling good.Hope it works for you too.

I guess the best thing to do is ask your doctor. There are food which are rich in fiber which are detoxifying.

The "proper" colon cleanse will indeed help. It depends on what kind of problems you have as to what type of colon cleanse is necessary or if a detox will help just as much. If you have a problem with constipation, I'd advise you to do a search for Dr. Shultz's colon cleanse. When your bowels don't move at least once a day there is a possibility of build up in the walls of the colon that can keep your body from absorbing nutrients and can also keep putting toxins into your body. If you don't have a problem with constipation you'll probably do just as well to add more raw veggies and fruit to your diet, drink more water, and get plenty of exercise. If you've been sick a tea of such nutrient rich herbs as alfalfa or chickweed and lemon juice sweetened a little with honey for a week or two will encourage your body to eliminate built up toxins.

I think they are helpful. I do one every few months. Keeping the colon clean is a good thing. Now days with the all the possibilities of toxins in foods and so forth I think it is important to be proactive. Alot of good cleanses out there too. I am partial to the lemonade one myself. It does the trick and gets you back on trick with a vegetable soup.

I already heard about this colon cleansing stuff because I had a writing project before with a scriptlance client with a colon cleansing topic. Yes, this is reliable and very useful form of alternative medicine, when we say "alternative medicine" this is a process in which we have to protect our body not through medications but through a natural process of healing with herbs or natural medicine in nature. Detoxifying our internal body system is a must nowadays to get rid of from deadly bacteria and waste substances in the body that cannot be eliminated by natural process. Colon cleansing is a kind of detoxification. Our colon is the dirtiest organ because it is where waste and food stored and passed out, when the waste substances will not be extracted from our body they will stick to the intestinal wall and most likely will create chronic diseases in the future, the deadly colon cancer sometimes is the outcome. To prevent this from happening, colon cleansing is being recommended to maintain cleanliness all over. Colon cleansing is a natural medicine, meaning there are no chemical formulation involved, mostly the ingredients are composed of herbs, antioxidants and fruits, this is always safe and with no adverse side effects so why not try it for thorough internal cleansing.

I asked my doctor about this, because I would think that doing a cleaning every now and again would be a good thing. He told me that colon cleansing is a good thing but be sure not to do it too often maybe every few months or so because if done to much it will cause you to be to "open" and then you will have trouble holding it in. He also advised me that if you are wanting to do a self colon cleansing that you should go to your local pharmacy and ask your pharmacists for it and not buy it off the internet/tv/radio. I am not quite sure why he told me not to but I am guessing there is some reason and to be honest I would rather go to my pharmacy then take my chances.
