Eye twitches?

Do you ever get an eye twitch? I'm not sure if it's a universal concept..But I'll try to explain it - a throbbing feeling that usually lasts for a couple minutes, off and on, below or behind your eye? I can't really explain it - but you definitely KNOW when you have it; it doesn't HURT, per say, but it's so incredibly annoying and distracting! All throughout my shift I my left eye had a twitch - and it was horrible. I'm convinced that my school/job stress triggered it. Have you ever gotten an eye twitch before? What do you believe causes it, and what's your solution for it?

Yes,i had some times. If it continue,i will put a warm towel on my eyes.I think, why the eye twitch happened is that my eyes was trying to "tell" me that she wanted to have a rest. But,when i was young,i din't konw why this happen, and my mom alway told me that,As the saying goes in China,if there is left eye twitch,we will lose money;if right eye twitch, the scourge happen. Is is funny and stupid?

That's funny. I didn't know there was a saying about it. I wonder if it's true. Hmmm.. Next time I get an eye twitch I'll have to remember which eye it's in and what that means! lol.

When i was young,i had suspect of the old saying. And the facts is that it's just saying, because it hardly happened as the saying describle. But,who knows what will happen?maybe coincidence come to us when we are careless.Just as the ghost,we know it never exists, but i'm afraid and feel terrible when i walk in dark night outdoors. of course,i hope you are lucky, forever.

i used to get some twicthes so i can safely say your not on your own, i think it can be caused by being nervous or tired as i haven't had them for a while but i think the main thing is due to being tired.

Hi Maezee! I get twitches and ticks - that horrible pulsating sensation that feels like one section of your face is moving in a very pronounced manner!! Usually I get them because of stress, but reading in poor lighting, long day and heavy workload all antagonise the problem. sometimes eyedrops like whitch(UK brand) can help soothe the eye and lessen the muscle spasms. there are eye exercises you can do - if you work in front of computer all day they are essential - there's loads o' stuff on the net here's one link I found http://myonlinehealtharticles.com/health-article-eye-exercises-that-relieve-eye-strain/ hope that helps.

Hi again! the 'ticks' are part of my anxiety problem - so don't worry. I'm not sure if I'm on Morachat - I've signed up for so much stuff it's difficult to keep track!!

Pssst.. Are you on MoraChat? I recognize your name. . I've never heard of "ticks" but that sounds even MORE horrible than eye twitches. Yikes. And I also had no idea that there were such things as "eye exercises". Good to know! And thanks for the link, I'll definitely be reading up about it!

Actually, yes, I always experiencing eye twitching and it's irritating. According to old folks in the province, when you eat the food eaten by cat or rat then you can experience that.LOL!but I don't believe it. Maybe it's the nerve eye that causes it when we abused our eyes by washing our face after the very busy day, reading and working and so on.

Another folk tale! Quite funny. I definitely agree with you, I think it has to do with the nerve in the eye but I'm not sure what we can do to avoid getting these annoying twitches.

I have had them before, and yes, they are incredibly annoying. I have heard that they are the result of either not enough sleep or not good sleep. I imagine stress plays a part in it too, because stress is the main cause of all of our maladies. As far as getting it to go away, my only suggestion is to take a nap! If that isn't feasible, then I guess you'll just have to be annoyed for a while. :)

I get an eye twitch a couple of times a month. It only lasts for a couple of minutes, but it's pretty annoying. And for some reason, it's usually my left eye. I'm pretty sure mine come from job stress, too, as I have had more eye twitches this past year than I have ever had before.

I've actually been having eye twitches the last couple of days. One time I mentioned it to someone and he (a mature lawyer) told me that it meant I was tired. I can see now that he is right. I haven't had a whole lot of sleep over the last few nights, and been out in the cold, wind and rain watching my daughter's soccer tournament this weekend. I got to catch up on some sleep by sleeping in this morning but when I got out of the shower a short time ago my left eye twitched (it's always my left eye ), so I guess I haven't caught up on my sleep yet. So you are probably right when you say stress is causing your's. Stress is probably preventing you from sleeping well. I know that once I get caught up on my sleep the twitching will stop... until the next time.

hi maezee! i get eye twitches too at times. but usually they last only for a few seconds. seldom does it last for a minute or so. sometimes my eye would twitch for a few seconds then the next would occur after a half minute or so. i'm not sure if its called twitching. just like you said its a throbbing feeling. more like a very fast pulsating feeling on some parts around the eye. and yes, with me it doesn't hurt too. and it hasn't caused me any distractions, it wasn't horrible as yours. but i'm also curious on how and why does it happen. i guess i could agree with you saying that its probably caused by stress, maybe from too much reading, or watching a movie or using the computer.

Indeed, eye twitching are irritating. It is even more frustrating if you feel conscious about it. Scientifically, people claim it is due to lack of sleep. Superstitiously, it has its own interpretation of either good or bad omen depending on which eye twitch. As long as one is not conscious, it will go off. A good sleep can also deal with it.

I have that before. Yes, it is very irratating and persistant. I also do not know the cause or solution. But iam glad to know its not just me. Lol!!! If you look at yourself in the mirror you can even see it twitching. My best guess is eye strain or muscle strain. Im going to read more responses here to see if anyone does have a solution.

Yep, I get them. My son gets them even worse than I do and more frequently. He also stays on the computer much more than I do. It's stress, or eyestrain. I notice mine after I've been on the computer longer than usual. My son gets them worse because he loves playing games on the computer and he's a moderator in a forum. I asked my doctor about eye twitches and that's what he told me... eyestrain.

I used to experience this often when I was still in school. It's mostly triggered by stress and lack of sleep - I somewhat confirmed this since I never have eye twitches during vacation weeks :D And it returned in the first month of work because I was not used to staring at the computer screen for more than 8 hours straight. Then it stopped when I decided to get more sleep and to take rest from work in between, especially when I stand up to get a snack and eat in the pantry instead of in front my computer :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Oh my gosh, I get them all the time! They are so annoying and I am constantly paranoid that other people can see it. i have heard they come from lack of sleep or stress or the two combined... Im not for certain though.

I at many times have had a twitch especially in my right eye. I used to hate when that happened, especially when I was outside my home. But now when I read your topic of discussion, I realized that I havent had those in quite a while. Touchwood, but I am glad.

I do get eye twitches sometimes, usually when I've worked for a long time or I'm really tired from lack of sleep. I think it's a nerve problem, caused by stress. I usually just wait it out, or rub it gently and it goes away sooner or later.

yea,one of my eyes does that quite frequently underneath,i'm not sure why,but my guess would be on being tired and stressing.it's annoying as hell,i hate when it acts up.

I used to drink way too much coffee and my eye would twitch sometimes. This is the only time that I can recall my eye twitching. Maybe when I was so very tired... The coffee thing was very strange though. I quit smoking and would drink coffee instead of smoke.. I cut back to the 2-3 cups in the morning and it went away. I can see how stress would also make someones eye twitch. Coffee pretty much does the same thing to you as far as making you rigid and tense. I would assume that once you relax and maybe meditate that it would go away;)

I'm not sure of the exact cause of the dreaded eye twitch. I've had them plenty of times and yes, they are so very annoying. It's such a weird feeling.

Oh yes I have had them. Not too often but yes, I have had eye twitches. I have yet another "belief" for you. In India, people believe that if your left eye twitches it is bad luck. But i don't believe that ;) I have read in some medical journal that it is primarily caused due to emotional or physical stress Or when the eye muscles are strained. They are basically muscle spasms. So your stress could most definitely be 1 of the reasons.
