If you had enough money would you still work?

Suppose you won a lot of money in the lotto or a competition or you inherited it from someone and you had enough to support you and your family would you still want to work or would you just sit back and relax and spend the money wisely because you think it can last. I would still want to work and increase my savings. I probably would find a job that is not too stressful and allows me enough time to spend with my family though. I know there are a lot of people who got money, quit their jobs and squandered the money until there was nothing left. Not wise at all. How would you handle that situation?

If I had enough money to support me and my family. I would probably choose not to work because I feel that raising up my kids is more important. I want to be always there for them, something that I am able to do now because I have to work. I would rather use some of my money as capital for a small business that I can do while being a full time mom at the same time. I would still like to earn some money but I don't want to have to sacrifice my time with my family anymore.

You raise a very good point. There are a lot of people who cannot be there for their kids the way they would like to because they have to work. There are ways to work but not leave home too often. Starting a small business is one way and also if your job requires you to work from home. You are a good Mom and I wish you all the best!

I think I would still work. But it won't be a full-time job that is stressful at all. It would be something I really am passionate about even if it does not pay that much. I would still want to work because work stimulates the mind/brain. If one does not work and just plays and relaxes all day long, it would be too boring. I could not imagine myself living like a bum every day of my life.

Working does stimulate the mind and body. Relaxing all day and not stimulating yourself will not only be boring but it is not healthy. I too would definitely need to do something that I am passionate about and one that permits me to spend enough time with my family. Thank you for your post and happy mylotting!

i would absolutely not work if i won alot of money. isn't that the main reason people work? to make money to live on? so if you have it why not enjoy life and dispense with the work part of it. by all accounts, for me, work is tedious and monotonous and exhausting. i would rather be careful with the money and have lots of free time to relax and enjoy life with my family and friends and to do some good for others less fortunate.

There are some people who don't have to work because they have money but work because they want to stay active and want to stimulate their mind. They don't have to work for a lot of money and some of them even donate their time free of charge. Whether you choose to work or not depends on what you want and how much money you have.

If it were me, I would still work. But it would be a work that is not stressful at all. It would be something that I really love to do even if it is not a high-paying job. At least that work gives me fulfillment and meaning. I would also like to continue working because work stimulates the mind/brain. I could not imagine myself living like a bum every single day of my life. That would be so boring and my mind would stagnate.

i could not believe that money can buy all of thing. if i had enough money, i still hope that i can work.when i work ,i find that working give me some happyness.when i relax from my work for a long time now, i could not adapt this life, maybe i lost anything in my life. i fond that buzy working make me forget some unhappy thing in my life, make me feel that every day came through very quickly, let me feel my life is very well.although people have alot of money and but what they want, but i find money could not satisfy with my need of spirit. sometimes i ask what is my life,i feel sad about it ,so i found that i could forget something when i work . if i have enough money one day ,i still select to work .

I agree that you can establish your own bussiness. Somehow it will help you on how to manage your resources and not just only that, youre the one who is actually giving yourself a job and youre the boss on your own. All you need to do is on how to expand and flourish your won money.

hmm that'll depend on how much exactly do i have. if it's only enough to afford me a comfortable level of living, i'll continue working. however, if it's enough for me to achieve my dreams i'll definitely stop working. i've always wanted to start a no-kill animal shelter in my country but simply don't have the financial ability to do so. if the amount of money is enough to achieve this dream, i'll quit my job right away to set up the shelter.

A no-kill animal shelter. That sounds very nice. Your love for animals is very commendable. Do you volunteer at any of the animal shelters in your country? Even without the money at this time, if there are any shelters, it would be a good place to start and work from there. I like short story and article writing, so I write whenever I can and practice however I can. Even without the money, it is good to start somewhere. Who knows where you will end up! Good luck to you and hope you can live your dream one day.

I would use the money to learn, I would take courses to try and find something I enjoyed doing that would earn me some money. I know that if I came into a lot of money then I would invest it somewhere that would give a good interest rate and if that the interest was a good amount then I would live off it. I am not a big spender anyway so I know that I would be sensible with the money, my hubby would not though, if he ever comes into a big amount of money it would be gone in a flash.

Okay.. so we'll keep the money in your hands and not your husband's LOL. Using money to educate yourself is always wise and you seem to have to be sensible when it comes to managing it. When some people have money they spend carelessly. You have to be responsible and smart or it will all blow away.

Hi trinee! Nice discussion! I can definitely answer this! I have worked for over 35 years already and am now disabled! I am living on a fixed income so I am no longer working. I don't really have enough money to not work, but I have no choice! It I could find a job where I could work according to my disabilities I certainly would work, but that would be very difficult to find. If I had enough money to not work again, and it was enough for me to live comfortably, and I don't mean rich I wouldn't work again! I would just take it easy and enjoy the rest of my life! I would only want enough money to pay my bills and be able to enjoy doing a few extra things now and then!

Thank you for posting and even though you may not be able to do certain things I see you are not allowing you incapacities to hold you back at all. I commend you for this. We all have issues to deal with in one way or the other and I think that money helps us with some of those issues but not all. Our state of mind and the way we deal with situations cannot be bought. You certainly have not allowed your inability to work and gain the finicial wealth you desire to hold you back or discourage you. There are some people who just want to be financially comfortable; they don't need a whole lot of money, just enough to get by, but there are others who just want to be rich! :) Nothing wrong with either, it's just a matter of what you want for yourself. I wish you the best my friend. I hope you find a job that allows you to be comfortable. Take care.

I am a working professional and work full time from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm.I have a son who is 1.5 years of age.I had to work because our financial condition was not very stable and me and my husband decided to work hard to make our future strong and safe. I started doing work when my son was just 4 months old.I want to stay at home to be with him and i really want to see him growing everyday, doing mischievous things. If i win a lotto, lottery and have enough of money,i will put the money in fixed monthly income schemes and stay at home for some years to nurture my child. Once he is grown up enough to take his own care, then i will start working again as i do not want to spoil my financial independence.

See... in a case like yours I can understand. You want to work to secure secure your child's future and yours. I can really understand wanting to be there for your son to nurture him and watch him grow up. Having money would really help you to slow down or even stop work fora while so that you can be there for your son and when he get's to a certain age you are able to work so that you can add to what you already have. I wish you and your family all the best and hope that you will be able to be there for your son and still have enough money to get by. Take care...

I think it depends if the work I would have was stressing or repetitive, I would then stop working, If it were a fascinating job, as scientific or something like that, and the job mates were really friendship, then maybe not. In that case, when you have a job like that, you can always quit it, and then you can begin to learn things, If I had time and wouldn´t have to earn a living for myself I´d learn lot of things I´m interested in, and never have the time. Work? I really don´t think so, because the chances a job is interesting are really very few. Cheeers

Even I have lots of money as for me I will still work. There are many reasons why? But for me I wanted be a good example to my children and family. I don't want them to grew up and became lazy. Because were already rich. They need to learn that if you earn money through your hardship, there is a sense of joy. They will learn how to value money. Specially if they buy something coming from their own pocket.

You bring up a good point of setting a good example. Children watch and learn from their parents and may get the wrong impression about life and money if they aren't taught the correct values about both.

I don't think if one gets gets enough money one should really slog it out.Now we know to make both ends meet how much of running around is required.Once you have sufficient funds you still work just to keep oneself occupied.Sitting idle may be a problem one can just keep doing something that they are passionate about. There are so many ways to deposit the money to see that it does not get depleted.I don't think anyone would be that foolish to sit back squander everything and find nothing left.I know someone who went to the gulf made enough money came back to India when their kids were just 8 & 6.They invested wisely. They have a big house, live a very comfortable life, travel alot. Now both the girls have finished their higher studies abroad and both work. After he got back this man never took up any job.He just sat at home did gardening and travelled.I was in awe of this family. If he wanted he could still have worked and made more money.

If I had won the lottery or millions, yes I would still want to work because I love what I do. My work, is who I am. Whilst the money would be great, it would just be something that would take the worry out of making a living wage. I often hear of billionaires who continue to work and they must feel the same way, because it isn't as if they haveto work, but choose to. - Derek

No, I would not work. I would invest my money, make a budget I could live me and then spend my time in missions work. They say you can not take it with, and you do not know when you will die. So, I would put mine to use in the mission field. Have a great day.

Good question!A lot of people have to woke everyday just for living. The house in here is so expensive that a majority of people work all their lives to earn money for just one house they can own. Suppose i won a lot of money in the lottery i would invest half of it to real property ,you know like house, and i would use the other half to do what i want to do, like found a company(i have got some idea). When i am tried i would travel around the world and help some other people. haha, a very beautiful picture, is it? Bless you can win in the lotto someday and i can win in the lottery! Good luck!

You brought up a good point there of a lot of people having to work all their lives just to have a home of their own. It's tough.. when you cannot even afford to have a secure roof over your head for you and your kids. Investing in a home is very wise.

Work does not have to mean you going out there and working full hours. It could mean you going out there and donating some of your time to a business that is struggling or one that is good to its workers but need speciality help. You don't have to get paid if you don't want or you can work for much less. There are ways to give your time and not have to work a lot of deny someone employment.

I never knew there was such a thing as "enough money". I would still work, but with all the excess money I would work for myself doing what I liked rather than staying at a job working for somebody else. Since I'm a musician i would probably start an independant record label and do what I want to do.
