Do you turn on your A/C 24 hours a day?

I won't be allowed to turn on the A/C 24 hours a day. Because the expensive energy bill might cost a lot at the end of the month. The only choice I got just endure the heat during the morning time, even it is 100 degrees. My father usually turn on the A/C before 6:00 P.M. before the dinner time. Turn it off when all of us going to bed. Other hours, we just turn on the fan to help us cool down. What about you? How many hours do you usually turn on your A/C a day?

The problem with keeping the air conditioner off and letting the house get extremely hot is that the unit has to work harder to cool the rooms down once it's turned on. Since I live in south Florida where we need the A/C all year round, we don't want to force ours to work too hard because it would be very expensive to replace. Instead, we keep the vents closed in the two bedrooms we're not using and we turn the thermostat up to 80 when we're not at home. We also use the ceiling fans to help circulate the air. One thing I never take chances with though is thunderstorms. When one is approaching I turn the A/C completely off until it has passed. I've known a few people who have had their units burned out by a close lightening strike that sent a surge of electricity through their house.

I live in central Florida on the East Coast. Any A/C shop will tell you it's actually best to run your ac 24/7. You turn it up when you are going to be gone more than a couple hours. Try to keep the difference about 5 degrees, otherwise it will cost you more money to turn the ac on and off. When the ac first starts up to cool is when it uses the most energy. The other reason you want it running 24/7 is so mold doesn't build up in your ducts. You guys trying to save money turning ac on and off my want to call the electric comp. or ac company and ask what is good to set your ac on. Fans help a lot to keep energy bills down as well.

During the summer yes I do. My daughter and I both have asthma. We keep the house around 74 degrees. Helps keep us from having frequent attacks.

i have not turned it on yet this season and we have to be very careful with it as we are struggling financially and will not be able to afford the bill. i keep the blinds closed to keep out the sun and run ceiling fans to keep the air circulating and put fans in the windows at night to draw some air inside. granted when it is really hot none of these things can take the place of air conditioning but unless someone steps up to pay the bill we will not be using it much at all.

Around here its becoming hard. Our high today is 100 degrees with a heat index of 112. I am going to be so miserable when i get off work. Our family though turns the a/c off during the day when no one is home to give it a break. We dont have ceiling fans or other fans so we have to use the ac when we are at home.

I use it only during summers and that too only if the heat gets unbearable. Normally, I turn on the A/C about 2 hours before I go to bed, so it gets cool enough for when I need to sleep. I turn off the A/C before I sleep. Since it is cool ( due to the 2 hours I had kept it on), I fall asleep easily. And then even if it gets hot in the night , I can't make out, as I am sound asleep. So the electricity bills don't kill us.

We turn our air on at about 11am and turn it off about 5pm. It gets turned back on around 10pm so we will be cool while we are sleeping and then gets turned back off about 6am. If it was up to my mother we wouldn't even use the air! She tells me everyday that she grew up without ac and that I should be greatful. I am very greatful for the ac but geesh we live in GA where when it's 80 degrees it feels like it's 100! lol.

Well we have AC on in our house for only 4-5 hours that is when we sleep during night time as the climate over here in my country is quite warm.....but then we turn it off once the room gets cooler.......we keep the temp of the AC to 23 degrees as this is the optimum temperature suggested by many people as it cools the room as well as helps to keep your electricity bill under control......electricity is very costly here......and you cant really afford to keep it on through out the day......it is best suited for corporates and companies and some big shots who have loads of disposable income on them.......

i usually turn ap ac only in the hotteest hours of the day, basically if the temperature is above 30 C i turn it up to lower it to 27, of course it all depends also on the humidity, but generally i never keep it on for more than a few hours. By the way i've never kept the ac open for a whole day, since i don't think it is useful and i would also waste a lot of energy.

I turn the A/C on at 9:00 PM before I sleep and asks my husband to turn it off at 5:00AM before I wake up. It would be a pain in the neck to see an electricity bill going off the charts, lol. During the day I stay in the room where there's enough air so I don't need to use an electric fan or an AC. Although on worst cases when its really hot I take a shower often all throughout a day. I can't afford not to use one coz it makes unwanted palpitations because of my heart condition.

To my home i don t need air conditioned. Because i stay in a house who are situated to mountins, and is very good as temperature, even in summer. So i think that i am lucky, but i use to office, there are many people, and we really need air conditioned.

When I am at home I turn on the AC so I can relax. I would die without an airconditioner due to the heat. Philippines is getting hotter every second and it's really difficult to relax and unwind without an ac. I can't imagine what my life would be like without an ac! Unlike before, aircons are just luxuries but due to the change of the climate especially in tropical countries like Phily, airconditioners has become a necessity to most who can afford.

Heck no! My dad (who pays the energy bill) would absolutely KILL me if we turned the AC on for 24hours a day. How ridiculous. If anything, I'd like to have the AC on when I'm sleeping. It sounds weird..But sleeping when it's muggy & humid in the house is HORRIBLE - me and my dad agree on this much at least. It makes the most sense, because at least if it's cool we'll get a good nights' sleep. And we're mostly gone in the day anyway, so it makes sense to shut it off when we're not going to be in the house.
