winter in peru? but it is summer!

Listened to a British newscast this morning whilst driving to work on climate change. To my amazement, hundreds of poor people have died in Peru, because the weather changed dramatically to winter. I learnt so much about climatic change. More people than ever have died in Europe (basically coldish weather) from heatstrokes these past ten years than ever in recorded history. Evidently we are experiencing dramatic changes where the country will be very hot or very cold. Some places will be dry and others will flood with rain. We experienced a hurricane in December nearly two years ago - and this was not in hurricane season. right now it is so hot that we are praying that we will not have a hurricane although four hurricanes may affect us this season. A team from the United Nations is on the Island to conduct surveys to see how the change of weather is and or could affect us in the future. Have you experienced any unusual weather where you live?

our summer here was mostly rainy days. it sure is a big change in weather here. where we used to have very very hot summers. if something like that happens here, thinking of the many people living in the streets here, surely many of them will die. as much as many of us here wants to experience winter and snow, it would not be a good feeling knowing that many people including little ones will die because of that.

We have been destroying our planet for many years - this did not happen overnight. However with the climate change we will see increasingly dramatic changes where people will gett toto much snow and rain and there will be droughts in other areas.Thaks for participating

I agree with you. Usually April is the start of summer here. But it was raining the half of April. They called it wet summer.

Most definatly! & actually it's currently questionable what's going on here in the upper Midwest. It's July so here we are typically anywhere between 80-100+ in temp. Our high today is supposed to be 68 & be chilly like this the rest of the week I don't mind, I'd trade a bit of a chill (fall or spring temps) for heat and humidity. However my garden isn't going to like it as many plants flurish on the summer heat & humidity.

Well money seems to make people blind to what they are doing to the environment that's for sure. All the big pollutants from manufacturing+cars and farming w/ pesticides is catching up to us. Sometimes I think the Amish have the right kind of lifestyle, though I don't know if I could live quite that simply partially perhaps.

It certainly is questionable - too many variances in temperature. Although Europe and other continents have nbeen telling us this over 20 years it is only now that we are beginning to listen and realise that we are destroying the world.

NO, it is about usual here for july, hot & humid. was talking to a mylotter last night in minnesota & it was unusally cold there she said. Weather is a funny thing & can be very dangerous. About 30 miles from here night before last we had a pretty bad storm & it blew the roof off a restaurant there. I hope y'all miss all the hurricanes, STAY SAFE.

Hey cynthiann! I live in NY and we have been experiencing weather that is just a bit out of the norm for this time of year! We have had alot of storms and temps that have been just a bit lower than usual, but not that strange! It has been a little closer to normal the last few days, but still not as hot as it should be for July! Not to complain, just that it should be in the 90's and up and it is only in the 80's and lower! We here are very happy with the cooler temps, but we have been having some very severe storms that are not really normal and that has been of some concern!

No, I haven't experienced any unusual weather here. It has been very hot, though, that's for sure! I know, in Australia, they are having winter right now. Their seasons are the complete opposite to ours. I used to have a pen pal that lived in Brisbane, Queeensland, Australia. That's how I know. When we're having winter, they're having summer. When we're having spring, they're having fall. When we're having fall, they're having spring, etc. It's due to the way the sun revolves around the earth. We went to Europe in 1973 in June and it was cold in London. I remember it being hot in Italy and France, though. Kathy.

Our Christmas is hot and sunny but OI am used to that now. Sometimes I miss a white Christmas but did not happen often where I lived in the U.K. The temp is changing though. Blessings

Hi cynnthiann! I never have seen a white christmas, myself. I'm sure they have in most of the northern states, though, like New York, Michigan, Illinois, etc. When we used to have a lot of horses out here, I used to think it would be fun to hitch up one of the horses and go for a sleigh ride! We have gotten a little snow in the past, maybe about two or three inches, but not like they do up north where they get several feet of snow! In a way, I'm glad. I think snow is pretty to look at but I can't stand to be out in it too long. It gets too cold for me. Kathy.

My pen pal in Australia used to say she loved hot Christmases! I thought that was strange because we here in Alabama were always wanting a white Christmas, lol. Kathy.

We didn't quite set a record last night for all time low....but I had to wear a coat today...and it's July! It's supposed to be in the 80-90 range....and even sometimes over a 100...but here we are freezing! I don't understand it!

Says she whispering: I think that it is global warming as it causes extremes but be careful who you tell as some people get very upset on Mylot and say that there is no such thing, and I do not need a troll at me! The ice caps are mellting at a faster rate than was predicted over 20 years ago.

The weather has been quite unusual this year. The winter was very long, and snow kept on coming till about the end of spring. It was very cold too. Looks like the "Global Warming" theory is working across the continents and around the globe.

I think the weather here in the US is basically what it has always been. It is cooler than usual this morning, but I am not complaining. It will be hot again next week. I really hope that your country is able to avoid a hurricane this season.

Thaks lilybug - although I am more prepared this year than in other years with a stock of basic food supplies and water to last me over a week. Just have to fill up car wiht gas and containers for gas for generator. Also need disposable plates and cutlery in the event that we will be out of water. We are usually out of water. I keep about 2 dozen super large containers filled with water from the house to flush toilets etc. and then buy enough drinking water to last us for about a week. I also have my meds put one side too. With all of this in polace I will be able to help others. Blessings

There were some pretty gnarly hailstorms here the winter I moved up here. Other than that, nothing too drastic.

We haven't had another bunch of them like that since, so I"m guessing it isn't normal here. For sure it wasn't normal in LA.

We don't have any real extreme weather here, but it's not as usual as it should be. Right now we should have 90 degree weather, but it hasn't even hit 80 since May! It's supposed to be humid, but not rainy.. instead we've gotten a lot of rain and not much humidity. Not floods or anything, but not our usual.

I live in Florida...in the south eastern part of the U.S...and we haven't experienced anything unusual down here. Our hurricane season isn't exepected to be unusually high...or low...this year and it's just as hot as it always is now that summer is here. This past winter wasn't any colder than normal (not that it gets really cold here) and, according to the local news, ocean temps along both of our coasts are normal.

There is drastic changes of weather for the past couple of years. In 2006 our city faced the worst ever calamity of floods. This year the rains were way late than the normal dates. The heat of summer was unbearable, leaving every organisms parched and looking up at sky to get it darker. Winter has become a rare commodity as of now. The pollution level is ever increasing and getting worse with every passing moment. It appears that nobody is in love with our envioronment most importantly we are constantly abusing our beloved mother earth. So yup, to answer your question the changes is not only noticeable but it is dramatic.

This is like the U.K. where people ar dying of heatstroke and in France and Germany too. France had a record number of deaths last year.I am so sorry that it is happening in your country too. We just have to help each other as much as possible. But it seems like big businesses are determined to destroy the earth and they do not follow the pollution laws that are in most countries.
