Just like that, without any specific purpose you sauntered down the nearby shopping complex and most of them are your known faces, I mean the shop keepers. You did not have much money in your wallet but something badly caught your fancy and felt like taking that home, may be on credit or paying a part of the cost. This way you are. And as this grew as your habit kinda you forget sometime to pay back. And when after considerably long time you are reminded, do not you feel embarrassed? I have had this habit in the past but now have put a 'NO' tag to this. How is it with you? Do you often buy things on credit despite having money at home? Please share. Rajib.

I do not have any credit cards. I have a debit card and cash. If I do not have the money, I do not get the item. I have a mortgage but paid cash for my car. I hate debt and prefer cash. Then I dont have to worry and I stay out of trouble.

Hi Krajib! I prefer not buy anything on credit. If I do not have money, I would make myself understand that I can come again to buy the product, when there is money in my pocket. I try to purchase things, which I can afford to. I use my credit card for convenience not for getting credit. Rather, now a days I prefer using my debit card for purchases, there are many outlets, who now a days accept debit cards, therefore, I find it more convenient not to carry too much cash in my pocket, when debit cards can do things for me.

Hi deepak, Believe me that is the best way. I have the experience of being gullible to such purchase and later had to be embarrassed. Thanks for the response.

Hi krajibg, I was always a saver with the fixed idea of don't spend what you don't have. Nowadays I never use credit as it has not yet become a normal way to spend in Greece as it is in many other countries. But when I did use it I always ensured I had the money in the bank to cover it, so would buy something on nought percent finance to pay it off slowly whilst gaining interest on the money I had in the bank to pay for it. I worked for too long in the credit industry to change my ways as saw too many problems which using credit caused thousands of people.

yes boss, i do. my domestic items are often baught through credit although i know that it is surcharged. my father and his staff baught all the family materials on credit so as an inheritor of my dad i am sustaining that process. but if an interesting item attracts me and i want to buuy it and my wallet is not enough for it, then i tell the shopkeeper to keep it for me for an advance money. lol

Hi, I understand the situation. but know what? As long as you have cash in hand better to buy things in cash. you are the gainer there but if you purchase things on credit you are a loser. I would tell how it works one day.

Hello krajibg this is checkmail and me too now i have stoped buying things on credit, but before i used to buy some things on credit.Usually it were all low cost goods that i have borrowed but it felt insane to me when reminded by the shopkeeper about the money. It was much more embracing than anything ever, so slowly i tried to control myself while shopping for goods and now i only purchase goods at cash sale basis.

Hi raj, it is always easy buying things on credit. You don't see the pain of pulling the cash from the wallet. But when it is time to pay, the budget exceeds and that is where the headaches comes in. I have experienced that many times when I am lured into buying something without thinking deeply and without the real need for them. Human wants can never be satisfied. Now am avoiding getting into the trap of credit purchase. I only buy when the need arises and only with cash purchase. It is less of a headache.

Hi zands, That is very true. Taking the thing on credit is all smile and when your turn comes to pull out from the wallet it is the evil that tempts you not to and in many an you earn a bad name too. I have a horrifying experience about this affair. Now a big NO when have no cash in the wallet or balance in th credit card. Thanks ,,,,,,

No ...I haven't done that but I do work in a store in a small town where everyone knows everyone and I do get frustrated with that. There was one kid who twice in a row bugged me and bugged me to let him charge. We really are not supposed to allow it and if we do...it is us who has to pay if they don't come thru. The kid came thru but took his time and I'd already paid for him and it compromised my budget. He just did it again...my bad....I know he'll pay but in the meantime...I'm broke. Then there was the local who came in and charged gas. we have to account for gas sales each shift. It really messes up the paper work. My boss approved once...twice and then it became habit. It was every week and took him days and days to pay. My boss finally told him "no more". Can you imagine if we let everyone do it? Guess he felt he was special because he thru a fit and tossed the f-bomb around at my boss and was an all around real jerk. So much for being nice. His reaction got me to thinking....as poor as I've been....I just could not imagine going into a store and asking to charge gas or cigs or anything.

I have for my part never ever indulged in buying anything on credit. I hate the thought of owing money to somebody, and I'm sure it will keeps playing on my mind. So, instead of losing sleep, Id rather never indulge in it. Once you have the habit of buying on credit, you end up buying things you dont need too. Luckily because of my nature, I dont even buy essentials on credit. If I have money, I buy, if not, forget it. I can do without it. Thats just me.

I have purchased on credit when I was in college. I did this very thing. I had so many credit cards and only paid the minimum balances witch had me in so much debt I felt as if I was drowning. SInce then, I have changed this habit. I have 2 credit cards and 2 lines of credit and I don't use them often at all. If I don't have the money to pay it off in a couple months, then I don't buy it. I wish I would have learned this lesson a long time ago!

Hi there, know what using credit cards or non using but the thing home is easy for you have not paid but when half of its utility is consumed you feel not like paying back and that earns you a bad reputation or else all is normal. What say?

I used to buy many things on credit and just like you I decided to stop that. Now if I cant pay for it cash I will not buy it at all. It is the best way to go especially with all the credit card companies bringing their APR's up. A lot of people abuse the use of credit cards and end up with crazy amounts of debt.

No i never like buying things on credit. I tell my chidren also that never buy any thing if u don't have money. but my husband believes in something else . he says that if u don't have money sometime and u know that person u can take on credit and immediately on next day u return that money. This will build your clean image to that person.

Well your husband;s version can not be rejected out and out. If you are in dire necessity and at that moment you have no cash, go get it and return the money next day. But do not make it a habit.

Nope, I did not try it as I dont have one but I dont think it is a good idea. It is more like buying what you dont have or what you cant afford. Also, you will pay for it later, what's the fun about that! You'll get the money and it will be all gone is a second with not enjoyment.

I have always tried to make it a rule that if I buy things on credit using my card, I pay them off in full at the end of the month. Using a credit card that way is very much a convenience thing and means I do not make a habit of carrying large amounts of of cash. It is only too easy to fall into the credit trap unless you are very firm with yourself

I do buy on credit but I do have the money in the bank and I pay it off at the end of the month if not sooner. It is just that not only do I have a points credit card and a cash back credit card, but I also want to keep records of what I buy and many credit card companies especially those who are associated with a bank have categories on their statements so that you know what you are buying. Also I found that on many of the cash receipts I got when I paid cash or debit for something, the ink was faded so unless I wrote what I bought that same week, I had no idea what the receipt was for or how much I paid for it.

Many people buy things on credit card and it has become a vogue sort of. But I was talking of buying things without using credit card but taking things home without paying. That is bad. For when it comes yur turn top pay you do not feel like paying for you have already consumed the things.

I do sometimes buy things on credit for as long as I am sure that I won't be paying much interest on it. I usually compute the interest for that thing. When I buy things on credit, I usually use my credit card and I don't pay interest on it. That's my most convenient way of buying on credit.

Hi doris, It become at times inevitable to buy things on credit but one has to bear in mind that the credit is squared on time. If that is not done there is a chance that you lose your credulity.

First of i see that i never purchase any thing on credit so the question of getting embarassed does not come at all... if we have our basic habits proper then nothing can give you a horrible feeling... If you can not afford it please dont buy it as that would cause a lot of tension and problems..

Yes unless you are in dire need of anything you should not go for a credit buying. The shopkeepers are happy to catch a local customer but you know what it feels when your y=turn to pay comes.

Yes, I buy things with my credit card, pay my insurance premium by my credit card too. But I hardly buy things under installment by credit card. Banks always like to give promotion on zero interest installment for you to get a cell phone or lap top or some other things back home easily. But of course you have to pay for monthly installment .
