I am angry and teed off and an oldie, and well I am just not going to take it anymore. my question Is it a bad thing to be an oldie here in mylot and should we just disappear and die as one,I suppose, young lady,I use that term loosely, said in her response. What is wrong with a society that thinks if you are old you need to disappear and die? I am I admit really really teed off.NOwhere in mylot rules does it say that older people are not wanted here nor does it say this is only for people of a certain age . Why then this kind of thinking?

For me I love the company of someone older. Especially here on mylot. You posses a wisdom us younger folks don't have. I don't know why anyone would say something like that to you or even think it. I was raised to respect and learn from my elders and I have passed that onto my children.

I was also raised to respect my elders and my parents as they respected me.I guess times do change and now a lot of kids dont even respect their parents and sadly their parents dont respect them either.

I also love the company of old people. The good thing is the old people are very mature and they able to understand people very much and they have more love and care. I think most people do like and respect elders in their life.

I've gotten that kind of thinking on other sites besides mylot. I have no idea what these young folks are thinking. Perhaps they think they own the internet Too bad, sometimes, that we do not know these people in real life. We could call their parents and tell them their child thinks they should not be allowed on the computer because they are old and should just fade away and die somewhere. Wonder how long the youngster would be on a computer? Don't let them get to you. Just remember, one day they will be our age and someone will be telling them the same thing

Hopefully we will all be old one day. We ought to be preparing ourselves for it by ensuring that the elderly now live in a way that we would like to live in the future. Anyone that writes off the elderly demonstrates a naivety and lack of foresight that just beggars belief. I am afraid that for many younger people they are unable to associate with being older. They will one day though!

Hi Hatley, Please don't be upset! That disgusting comment was made by a very nasty and rude young girl who is totally disrespectful to everyone! She has no respect for anyone of any age, especially for herself and was dealt with accordingly on two separate discussions and probably still hasn't learned to keep her big stupid mouth shut yet! If she is stupid enough to stick around here, she will continue to get what she deserves! There are people of all ages here and mylot does not discrimate as to age limit except I believe that you must be over the age of 16, but even that I'm not sure about! It is very unfortunate that in this day and age that younger people do not have respect for us older folks! I deal with it all the time when I take the bus or am in a store. They don't think twice about trying to knock me down to get on the bus ahead of me! Children today have no respect, no like we were brought up, that's for sure! I have bad knees and a bad ankle and would still give up my seat for someone less able or older than I am and I am no youngster myself!

hi opal I have had similar things happen to me whie riding the bus. I stood up as there weren't any sits left and hung onto the overhead strap. an old negro man looked up at me, and got to his crippled legs and said softly, here maam. take my seat, you shouldnt have to stand. the younger ones just stared at us and smirked to each other. yuck that guy was older than me.

Hello again Hatley, now there's no point at all in getting yourself angry about some obviously ignorant youngster who would be probably better off going and joining a forum for other teen agers. If you don't mind talking with us younger ones then why on earth should we have a problem talking to you. In my area the youngsters are brought up to have respect for their elders and there is nothing unusual in seeing two non family members, young and old, sitting conversing over a coffee togther, teenager and wiser older man not excepted from this.

hi thea you know I just realized a lot of times I dont' check the ages of people I respond to. some of their discussions seem so mature, then just for fun I check the name and it turns out to be a boy of 19,but we visited back and forth and seemed to enjoy each others comments. you just never know and again I have responded to others much closer my age. I never have worried about ages in here, just enjoyed all our diversities.

No Hatley, we should not disappear and die. Many of us here are older. You were so very missed by so many when you were gone. I can't believe that someone would have the nerve to say that. Did she say it to you? It takes a certain level of ignorance to say something that disrespectful and shallow to anyone. I think it is great that we have people of all ages on here and from all over.

Sadly a lot of the youngsters who join here are astonished to find a lot of 'older' users. Just like offline there is no respect for them nowadays Then there are many who after a while get to know us and realise that we can have as much, if not more, fun than they do and they join in. One bad apple doesn't spoil the crop and if we allow for the fact that she just might have got out of bed on the wrong foot before she said it then I'll give the benefit of the doubt. Never again though as it is definately lacking in any form of respect whatsoever. I am not going anywhere so like it or lump it!

Kids are a lot more different nowadays. In real life, not only in the internet, they become more disrespectful to elders. When I was new here, I thought I would become more knowledgeable than others. But until now, I found out that I still have to learn alot. And I found it from the vets.

hi silver and muscles you have given me the first laugh of the day. and made me remember back in' college I was taking building pyramids as my physical ed, and was asked to do the forward roll okay so I clumsily roll forward then the world goes roung and round and I am sick to my tummy,at age 20,and cannot do another forward roll or even a somersault.the gym'teacher was teed off but I went to the university doctor and told him. he said some people cannot do that gym set up as rolling forward and doing somersaults paralyzes their diaphram, and stops them from breathing properly. he wrote a medical note excusing me from that gym class for medical reasons.the big reason why I love mylot is all our diversity in ages races and everything.

Hi Hatley. As an oldie myself, I've not run into this yet, but if/when I do, I will simply chalk it up to someone else's ignorance and intolerance. I have a great time here and have learned so much and met many wonderful people of all ages. If possible, just "blow it off," and continue to do what YOU enjoy :)) Karen

That is a very rude, insensitive remark from an obviously ignorant mind. I cannot for the life of me imagine someone saying that, it's the height of disrespect, I wonder how her parents would have felt if those very same words were directed to them? I've been at myLOt for not very long and I'm amazed at the age range this site caters to. I am even more amazed that people older than my mother knows myLot and actively participates here (I had a discussion about my mother being a technophobic and has not touched a computer because as she says, she's too old for that, she's in her late 60s). You Hatley, are an inspiration to those who think they have no place here. The wide wide web is so vast it has a place for everyone, and no one has the right to say that this is only for the young. You and the likes of you represent your generation which has contributed to the rich information myLot has amassed that members have benefited from. I hope this girl realizes her mistake and take back what she said. That's the least she can do.

yes it was rude and very insensitive and much like some others I heard once in a doctors office, 'shes so old why does she bother coming in here just for a cold, at her age shell likely die before' the cold is over. I heard then this old lady was all of 65, of course the office girl looked to be about 19 so I guess in her biased mind , if she has one, 65' was o o oll d d . old.We are all ages here, all races, all sorts of careers and that is what makes mylot so great.

That is true about respecting others irrespective of their age. Give respect and take respect, that is what I was taught by my parents and elders. We were even taught that when an elder enters room and the youngsters are sitting it is expected of them to stand up as respect. I wonder how she could expect respect from anyone else when she isn't giving any to others.

Hi Hatley, you are not only a senior member here but also one of my most respected senior citizen that has so much life experience to share with us. I know how hurt you are when you read such unkind remarks that is so belittling particularly to senior citizens. I am happy to have you as my friend. You have proven yourself that age is no barrier to actively participate in mylot and mylot is such a nice place to interact with people of all ages. Nobody has the right to condemn anyone to disappear and die as this is a site for all ages. Let us continue to be active here and forget what has been said. There are people with no right thinking mind and no respect for the oldies. They are liken to an alien from outer space who do not know how to behave well and do no know how to act like a real human being. So forget about this person and this is an isolated case.

No, it's just a very sensitive remark by one of my friends that she made last night. I went to her house today because i couldn't call her, that made me worried. She's still sleeping but i saw tears on her eyes, i think she cried all night, because probably what happened to her. This is what really happened to her before she started this cranky sparky thing. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2100899.aspx and I was almost worried too.when she made this discussion that i went to her house.. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2100902.aspx I actually hug and kissed her before i left the house...she smiled a bitwhile her eyes are still closed.. she didn't to say it, so there's need to bang it against her. I think the trolls and other truly misguided should be the ones to fade a way

I am a newbie here at mylot but having attained 57 this past 8/2 I understand. For me its a simple solution..If the young 'lady' doesn't care for the company she keeps here then she needs seek other company elsewhere. I haven't gotten to this point in life by backing off every time someone shakes a fist at me..be it literally or figuratively. I'd not do it now..and as it is that when I was invited to join mylot my age was not an issue, I assume that 2 weeks later it remains so. As for why this kind of thinking please keep in mind that is so much easier for a coward to throw stones in a venue such as this than to do so face to face. Don't let her get you down. Instead, show her why you're here... ENJOY!
