Did you know?

Did you know that when you become the first lady you are not allowed to wear shorts on your vacation at the Grand Canyon, when it's very, very hot? Did you also know that you cannot wear a dress where the fat part of your arm might show? People and the press are really ridiculous about that! If she had worn pants and a blouse their they would find something wrong about that,"She was not showing a good example to people on how to dress in warmer weather can be unhealthy." Or if she had worn a sundress they would say something like," She was wearing a dress out there walking around."

I think it's more interesting that the first lady has a staff and a budget, but no responsibilities.

Whatta you mean she has no responsibilities? She's the First Lady of the United States of America. The First Lady has ALWAYS had responsibilites. Name me one who didn't.

The First Lady of the United States is the unofficial title of what is called "Host of the White House". Did you know that it doesn't necessarily have to be the president's spouse? Anyway, the position carries no official responsibilities nor are there any official "job desriptions" or "duties". The First Lady basically gets to decide what (if any) role she wants to play in the administration. She can be a Hillary (We are the President) type or a Ladybird Johnson (who was the first First Lady to have a staff and budget. However, she didn't accomplish much more with it than getting an office built for the First Lady of the US and planting flowers in her "Capital Beautification Project".. but in fairness, her term was a short one. Or even a Barbara Bush type who didn't do much in the way of politics, but was very busy with literacy programs and other things that don't get much press. The bottom line is, she has a budget and a staff, but no real responsibilities.

It's the MSM's way of showing the world that they aren't in bed with the Obama administration. "See? We can be critical of the Obamas too!"

What I am saying they do it with who ever the first lady is.My mom and uncle and I were talking about it today. And they were talking about how Jackie Kennedy was criticized, mater of fact they said that one time so bad by a male reporter, that she slapped him.

Unfortunately I was alive back then so I couldn't really make the comparison =) Honestly I don't see why it's a big deal what she wears on vacation. I would think it was strange and a poor decision if she wore shorts to an official event, but not on vacation. Heck, I don't even care if the colors match, she could wear brown and pink together for all I care (those don't go together do they?)

Yes brown and pink go together. That's my point, who cares if the first lady wore shorts on her vacation. If you or I or one of those reporters had been on vacation in that heat and that type of place we'd been wearing shorts too. That just proves even more that the Obama's are just normal people.

Holy crap!! If I ever become First Lady, I'm going to change all that. I'm going to make some new laws, and new rules, totally blowing all that crap away. Why should I have to be any different just because I may be married to the President? Or maybe I'll just become President myself, and he'll have to be the First Gentleman, and obey a bunch of stupid rules, so he'll know how women have felt for centuries.

I think that is going just a bit too far when they say they cannot wear those things. I can see them saying it if she wore something revealing. I think they have gone to extremes with that.

Gosh, I know why are they making such a big deal out of it . It was hot and the shorts looked fine. It is not like she was dressed trashy or that things were hanging out . They were having fun let them go!

Just like Jackie O...and every other First Lady since then...there have been those who will have something to say no matter what she says or does...or wears. It's the media and I agree that it't ridiculous. Buttttt....at least they're laying off of some other woman while their narrow focus is on Michelle.

Hey Hey! Yep it is pretty sad. All the news stations had it on and were making such a big deal out of it. My first thought was it must be real hot there and then I looked at the pictures they had and I thought she looked fine.

The press always has something to say about how someone dresses. Its a bunch of hooey. Good for the Obamas for dressing like normal people, she is in a park with her family not at a state dinner at the White House. The Obamas are normal people, they are a family.

Well you can't have it both ways. She wants to be Mrs. Fashion Icon and be on the cover of every magazine for her clothes and arms, but with that comes the criticism of her clothes and arms. If you put yourself out there wanting praise, you have to accept the criticism that comes with it. Odd how nobody's talking about the taxpayer dollars spent on her clothes. If she were a republican we'd know the exact dollar amount spent on clothing without adjusting it for returned clothes.

You are right, most of Media people will keep their eyes on her. No matter what she does, right or wrong, it still something for them to put on their paper. However, in my country we never do that at all... we are so respect our president and never say anything bad if he doesn't do it

Hello! Hahaha I do not get why everyone and esp the press made such a big deal out of it. Come on people there are more things to worry about in The Usa and all over. You know what the first thing I thought was it must be hot there! Then, I say the pictures blasted all over the news and my first thought was wow she looks pretty damn good. No matter what she might have wore they would of had a cow!

Wow! I did not know this type of information I guess it is a tough job to not only be a first lady on camera. But to also have to be dressed up like that as well. I know for sure the First Lady has to have advisors for what she wears in public as well. Do you know what they are called? Is it Publicist? I think it is good that she does do that because they still looks pretty darn respectable and smart looking. But then again she probably has ice packs underneath it all. Just kidding. God bless
