Hi friends, When you leave a room either at home or at office, do you switch off all the lights, fan or Airconditioners and then go to the next room, or you just leave it on without bothering.... At home, even when I go from one room to another room to take something I will switch off the lights and fan and when I come back I switch it on again, it has now become a habit... Some people will switch on the Television even if they are on phone or working in some other room, I usually discourage this for my kids, but they still do it, I try to avoid it as much as possible.... After all we are the ones paying the electric bills and if we are a bit more careful for our own sakes if not for others, this small gesture will go a long way in saving energy also.... So mylotters what do you say? what is your habit......

Oh yes, am doing that now, after a series of fire due to faulty wirings. Would add to savings as well when electric consumption goes down. It's being said that even an appliance was off bt left unplugged still it consume 25 per cent electricity.

I will switch off lights - I leave my computer on 24 hours a day except when I am not home as it has programs running 24 hours a day, it is never idle. The monitor and speakers though are turned off at night while I sleep, they are the energy hogs. When I leave the house, the computer is switched off for safety.
I will switch off lights when leaving one room for another. I don't turn off the air conditioner or the computer. * The air conditioner will have to work harder to re-cool the room after a short absence negating any savings from a switch off for short absence. For long absence, I will turn it off as cords can present a fire danger. * I leave my computer on 24 hours a day except when I am not home as it has programs running 24 hours a day, it is never idle. The monitor and speakers though are turned off at night while I sleep, they are the energy hogs. When I leave the house, the computer is switched off for safety.

Monitor takes up the more power to be kept on than the CPU, so if you really need your pc to be on its best to turn off the monitor.....

I more or less live in my bedroom and use the kitchen and bath just briefly. I turn off the monitor and other peripherals when I sleep (when I am not actively computing.) Rapid switching on and off the monitor defeats the power savings though. My monitor comes with power savings for short five minute jaunts to check on the cook pot for example.

hello kkanaka, Same thing with me and my family. We are switching off the light when we are not using it. This way, we can save some money and the kids will know the value of it. Sure thing it's not that much that we can save but summing up the savings in a year will be that much already. Need to tighten our built for everything is going up.

Hey, Yes I personally always turn the off switch when I leave the room. But I don't turn switch the light off if I know that I will return to that room very soon, in that case I leave the light on. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

When I know I'm going to be out of the room for more than 10 minutes, I will shut off the lights, tv, etc. I don't have air conditioning, it sucks a lot of energy and I really don't like it anyways (I'd rather have a window open instead) I think it's a good habit to get into to shut off lights when they're not needed. Besides saving energy, you're also saving money on the electric bill. I've read that the only time it doesn't save is with flourescent bulbs, which take more energy to turn back on than to just leave them on. That is, rather than repeatedly turning them off and on all evening. I think almost everybody at my house is used to turning off lights etc, when not in use. Good habits start early!

I shut off lights and fans all the time, but only if I'm not planning to go back in that room for awhile. I feel like why waste electricity and pay more than we already do to the utility company.

Save Energy - I chose this pic because it resemles very much to the discussion.
yes I swithch off everything in the room before leaving. You can say that this is th habbit i developed from childhood. Due to pride for my country, i can't tell you the real story about electricity in India. But whenever i switch off everything, I get kind of satisfaction that i have saved something for others. i certainly think it's a good practice. thnanks.

That's really a good habit, my friend. I will only turn off the electrical appliance when I am leaving for a little long. I feel turn on and off and on cost more wastage of electricity. ^ ^

I do make it a habit to switch off the light switch and other electrical devices when I am not in the room because I want to save energy. I know a lot of people who do leave the lights on in their rooms when they are in another room and I think that it is a complete waste of energy.

Yes, on the whole, I do turn things off - I have my Dad to thank for this who used to yell 'TUUURNTHELIIIGHTOOFFFF' every time we left a room....lol....what a wise man! I have been so much more aware of these things, and more understanding of his yelling, since I moved into my own place - because of course now I pay the bills! Amazing how an electricity bill gives you so much more clarity about these things, eh?! I also have become considerably more environmentally aware of late, I think, and learned a little more about how these things on our planet are related, and that we can make a difference starting with small things, that build up in effect as we do them everyday.

i am a stickler about turning lights off when i am not in the room or even if i am going to be in the room for a few minutes during the day time. i know what you mean though, sometimes my kids leave the lights on and i ask them if they are going to be paying the hydro bill this month!!

We do turn off the lights when we leave a room. We have small apartment so there's not too many lights to begin with. I will leave the tv on in the living room if I'm doing something in the bedroom only because I can hear it just to have noise in the apartment without it being silent because my Ipod speakers aren't working. The one thing I hate is absolute silence.

hi kkanaka oh yes I sure do specially when we had our own apartment.we just went around shutting down all electric things we werent using specially lights.it all adds upon your bill. and leaving a computer going allthe time can be hard on it, specially on hot summer days. here in my room at the retirement center I always shutoff my lamp and my fan. sometimes fans and air conditioners left on when you arenot home c an short out and cause electrical fires.better safe than sorry. Also we changed our light bulbs to those screwy looking ones and saved a bundle doing that too.

I always switch off everything that won't we necessary whenever i leave a room at home or office. I take a couple of minutes to switch off the fans, light, Tv, and any other thing that consumes electricity. Like we all heard, saving energy is energy produced. We are directly effected by the electricity bill, and the break down of things by overuse, when actually they are not needed. Also, when we save energy, some other people in need might get what we have saved.

So very correct, if we use it as and when we need, it might be used by others who really need it....
