What's So Bad About Socialism?

I'm just curious as to why everyone seems to throw around the word "Socialism" like it's a completely bad form of government. Need we be reminded that all of our trading partners have elements of socialism in their governments, and their citizens have better education, better health, and are generally happier than we are. What's the deal?

Winston Churchill once said: "Socialism is the philosphy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery". I belive socialism is good for people that are happy with a mediocre kind of life. They just want to be served by the government and thats it.There is no real effort on their actions becuase in the end they just get payed the same as everyone.

Socialism requires someone to decide what is best for you, what you should be living on, and what should be taken away from you to give to someone else. It's rare to find the American socialist truly willing to live a socialist lifestyle. Most are just bigots trying to justify their prejudices with class warfare lies.

And anyone who argues with you should take a good look at how much Obama and Biden give to charity. Biden earns 5-6 times as much money as I do and gives less. That's just scary.

"It's rare to find the American socialist truly willing to live a socialist lifestyle" That says everything everyone ever needs to know about American socialism. They want in on the power structure, the implementation of the system. They don't want any parts of living within it.

Any country that is socialist has sky high taxes, because not enough of the populace works. You need working taxpayers to pay for government programs. A lot of these countries have censorship, too. All in all, socialism sucks, my friend.

I think what is the worse is what we have in america, it's like it's have socialist, half capitalist, the results seem to be that their's a nice massive funnel sucking the money from our pockets into the profit margin of mega corporations, that cater mostly to those who the socialism aims to help. But, well, both capitalism and socialism could conceivably be very good, or very bad. It depends on the people in the system, if they want to be corrupt, greedy, who cares about another, well, it's going to show up in any system that is in place. Since there is always a bunch of greedy, corrupt people out there, usually in the highest places in government and the economy, I would prefer to keep my freedom to act on my own behalf as I see fit, thank you! And, well, you do start losing the freedom as the socialism creeps in.

We do have a messed up hybrid system here that comes down to the govt does whatever the corps want it to do, depending on what corp is backing the current political "winners". This benefits the politicians and the filthy rich.

It's more beneficial for them to have a bunch of low paid workers earning low enough wages taking handouts and a bunch more earning just above those low paid workers going into debt than it is to actually have a stable economy! (As long as you don't have any foresight!!) They've made obscene profits on our debt!! The corps don't have to worry about how little they pay most of their employees, since the gov't will take all our money to make up the slack. And, well, they can charge a heck of alot more for those basic necessities like healthcare, food, rent, ect....because, well, it's the taxpayer, via gov't programs paying that. Then at the other end, it's the big ceos, landowner, ect, that are raking in the profits. As long as you don't have any foresight, it's all grand....but, if they have had a little foresight, just a little, they would have known, the end result looks like what Illinois does now, with the state being five or more behind making payments, the social service network falling apart because they aren't being paid! The little securities that has been floated all around the world becoming worthless, because they've inflated the price of everything to the extent that the people can't pay their bills, no way! So, well, say goodbye to our priveledge "reserve currency" status, we aren't trustworthy enough anymore!

I question your assertion that they have better education, health, and that they are generally happier than we are. I see that the respondant above has a star and a higher post number than you. Do you think that mylot should take some of his post away from him and give them to you? And in turn once youve reached a certain number of posts should you be forced to give some to someone else with less than you? Of course not. The respondant above earned his posts, just as you will have too, just as everyone has to. Thats the real problem with socialism, it does NOT bring everybody to the same level, it takes far more people down. Even then things are not equal. You'll find that generally that those who have received from the givers come to demand even more than what theyve already gotten. Socialism is unfair to the workers/producers and creates an attitude of entitlement to the lazy.

In most socialist countries education is open to the best and brightest based on a standardized test. You have one chance to go to college and if you fail you are out. In the US if you flunk out of college at 19 you can return at 25 when you are ready to settle down and learn. In a socialist country Bill Gates would still be a programer for a government company. If Socialism is so great why is Denmark, France, Germany and Great Britain all moving toward the Free Market?

Lol, if you can get a job, you mean! My husband is from Britain, and for years he couldn't get a job. And the government 'training' he received to retrench him was worthless on paper. When he moved here, he coudn't believe the opportunities. His nephew is moving to Bulgaria because the taxes are so high in England, he cannot ever get ahead. He is also sick of the muslim butt kissing that is going on, and wants to raise his little girl in a better environment. I don't blame him. Socialist countries are welfare countries.

If you look at the people in Socialist countries you will find that people tend to get locked into a job and social status that makes upward mobility very difficult. To advance in education you are required to take a test and only the top ones move on the others are left by the way side with poorer education. In the Free Market - Capitalist system everyone is free to advance as far as they want and are willing to work at. If you check the Census Data you will see that the Americans below the poverty level are better than the lower working class in most other industrial nations. Russian Premier Stalin imported the Book "The Grapes of Wrath" to show how poor the Americans were and how the Russian people were better off. What the Russian People took from the book was that even the poor in America drove Cars.l
