I'm working on a story right now..and I just can't think of the word I'm trying to use!!! It's in the same family as careened and/or veered, but I dont think either of those are exactly right. Here's what's going on: The guy is driving and he throws his arms up, and the car starts to move to the right (slowly)...but I dont know what word to use to describe it! I know there's ONE word! First person to give me a word I use gets best response! :P Everyone else gets +++'s Thank you!

Drift is the word I would use. If it's moving slowly, it's drifting slowly toward the edge of the road. Or you could even use wander. The car started to wander dangerously toward the edge of the mountain road...

you must be talking about veered to the right or swerved to the right

No, it is not veering--thats the word I said it's close to. And it isn't a swerve either...it's a word that conveys a slower, gentler motion for the car.

How about swerved?? although that word doesn't usually mean slowly but sounds good, no?

How about "swayed" or "drifted". Hope you find the word you are looking for.

Yes, the word I was thinking of was drifted. I don't think swayed is right--when I say that I would imagine the car kind of moving gently back and forth. But thanks! Still +'n your discussion!

The car would be moving sideways...but that's not what I mean. I'm looking for the word that replaces the actual 'move.'

I would say veered to the right or you can use swerved to the right. Good luck with your story. Sounds very interesting.

Did he swerve to the right? Did he weave to the right? Did he coast to the right?

Hmm? Am I too late? Do I even have a clue? Am I paying too much for car insurance? Uhm, so he swerved, veered, drifted, did he careen--is that how you spell it?--into the other car? What do you get if you cross an elephant and a rhino? Elephino.

LOL You could never be too late!!! You always seem to be able to say something funny regardless of the discussion! So your responses are always welcome! I did go with drift--he defeniatly drifted! But there is no other car, so no accident! lol. He just 'drifted' off the path a little bit...

LOL = Laughing Out Loud...and the adorable smiley face is just animating that I don't think a metaphor or similie would be right for this part in my story. I did find the word I'm going to use, and I also got help with another word without even asking for it lol. Woot, I'm on a roll!! Warped humor defeniatly can be welcome! lol.

Hilarious. Okay, my question about what does this " " mean can't be asked in this format, because here on mylot these things translate into obvious smiles with their own features (laughing, thumbs up) but you were unable to see how I see it in my yahoo inbox, because it was automatically converted! Now I feel like an ignoramus and I have no idea if you know what I'm talking about. See ya! dr...

veering to the right, throws up hands in exasperation, causing the car to veer to the right, there is another word, like lilt, but that's more of an accent, I think. veering off the road. You probably have this by now and 20 more, but it takes me some time to get on here lately with three part-time jobs.

Hehe it's okay writers! All responses are welcome, better late than never! The guy is throwing his hands up on purpose (it's only a surprise to his passenger) Yeah drifted was perfect for what I was imagining! My mind must be going..I don't know why I didn't think of that! lol
