When I was studying my high school life, I was enable to be in the ranked 10 of our history subject.. I was not able to love this subject because of no willingness to study of it..it is one thing that made me failed to be the top 1 in our class...I love other subejcts, but not history... why do we need to study about it? I know we can learn such things behind of our naturality, and where do we start... but i am super-conscious about this thing... Why do we need to study history?

History will always be an important subject to study. Looking back into the past can help us with the problems we face now and in the future.

Studying history is not that important unless you are going to use it in some way. You may apply for a job at a historical site or something of that nature and then you will really need this subject. Otherwise, History is not that important. It's nice to learn about how we have progressed as a human race though, how we have become more civilised as it were and not still living within the days of King Henry VIII, chopping off heads and so forth. There are so many things you can learn from history. It's interesting to read about the hardships of days of old. I personally don't read up on history now but I have found some interesting areas in relation to history. Andrew

The study of history helps us come to an understanding of the world and why it's the way it is. Also, it shows us where we've made mistakes and where we've been right. The problem these days is that some so-called historians want to rewrite history to fit their agenda and/or people just don't think history is important any longer.

This have been a qusetion which disturbs my mind for a long time. I pity the people who do research in History. I think it is fine to have knowledge about history, but I don't think we need to study it in detail. If we know History, we will learn from the mistake did by people who lived before us so that we can avoid those mistakes.

Well, it is good to have lots of knowledge about history because who knows you can travel around the world and then you have not enough knowledge about that country. In your opinion is it right to study history in detail or not?

I wish I had been your high school teacher; I'd have made sure you learnt to love the subject. I believe there are two main reasons why people study history. 1. We need to know about our yesterday so that we can prepare for a better tomorrow. As prosaic as that sounds, that is a fact. The theory is that we can learn from the mistakes other people made, and avoid them in our time. Of course, I'm not sure how effective that method is, because I believe one usually learns best from one's own mistakes. 2. The second reason is curiosity - an innate facet of a person's nature. People are always (usually) curious to know how other people lived and what they did. So, why do they insist on teaching this subject at school? I guess it is mainly for these two reasons.

Studying in history is we want to know the way of living of our ancient ancestor, on how they live. In their times they are abundant in terms of food and their cost of living are not so expensive unlike today we are suffering economic crisis, lots of crimes that are happening in our country. Most of our politicians are corrupt. If there's a chance to go backward then i prefer. How i wish? What do you think?

yes, no one force us to study history in detail. If you don't like the subject then take the exam in compliance. you cannot tell those people who love history because they love to be curious about what's happening in the past and what the people doing their lives.

The bible tells us that these things (history) were given for our learning. If we don't understand how things came about before and take steps to remedy the problem, we fall into the same trap again. It is true that history tends to repeat itself. Like you, I didn't care much for history, either, especially the dates. I don't think that I would have been number one in my class had I done better in history, but I'd probably been number 2 instead of number 3.

I asked this question myself 2 years ago...well, one of the reason we study history is for us to develop our way of life. Take this as an example, we would not be having faucets in our homes if people in the past didn't know how to create dams/ tunnels for water to flow in. Most of us might be even carrying jars around their shoulders/heads right now if no one thought of improving the system of acquiring water in the past. Another one, we would not be having computers nowadays if we didn't have looms or a calculator before. Or that we still wouldn't know that the world is round and that there is a universe if we do not study history. History subjects does not dwell mainly on historical time lines. It also covers geography, culture and science. Try to think what might have been if people did not pass down their knowledge to the new generations about what happened in their past, what they had discovered, what they had done, and what they thought of it. Since humans tend to forget things, how much more can the new generations, who would not know anything that has happened before them, can be able to move forward to progress if they would not know anything that has happened. Biotechnology, Science, Information Technology, and many others would not be possible without the study of History. Hope this helps!

We need to study history,to know about our past and how we can improve our present. It was one of my favorite subjects in school. If we study history we can almost always predict how people will react in certain circumstance.

History improves one's perspective and knowledge. As Francis bacon said, history certainly improves wisdom. What is present with out knowledge of past.

History is a very important subject. It gives a very useful knowledge about the past so we the people could avoid doing the same mistakes that others have done. Also you can see and understand how the world that we live in develops through the years and what is already achieved. So you can see history can teach us to many things.

no. i think that the most important thing is to study sth from the past.off course we must face the future.but we can find a lot of lessons in the history.we can learn a lot of things and may be you can find interests in it,because just like me,i like it just like reading true stories with benifits. actually my scores in history is not very high too.because the test need exact amount ,but i only know the approximate amount.and the tampering and hiding of the history fact is very serious in the history 's book too.every country and every goverment will do and have done so.i hate this kind of activity .

In my own opinion it is very important to study history subject, in my high school life i love that subject so much because we know what are the culture, custom and beliefs of the other country. And not only that we will know also the beauty and wealth of our country, like our country Philippines we know so much that Philippines is very rich and talented people. Without history we don't know the facts of the other country and our country also.

I hated history too, simply because it was repeated and repeated and repeated. You can hear about something in history once and remember it... I love the quote of "those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it". Learning from history opens our eyes to what is happening today, and helps us see similarities in what is happening. It's kind of like setting your hand on a hot burner on the stove. You burn yourself, but you learn from it and you're not apt to set your hand there again. History is kind of the same thing. Also, history opens your eyes to what went on to develop your country to what it is today. It might be boring now, but there are parts of your history that will help you to understand the future. I am kind of smiling to myself right now, because you can also compare history to the people who deep fat fry a turkey and have it blow up. (I learned that those suckers have to be TOTALLY thawed out before you drop them in the fryer!) There are a ton of people each year that burn their garage, homes, yards and themselves because they didn't learn form other people's history of dropping a not totally thawed turkey in that hot oil. I can visualize that sucker shooting for the moon at warp velocity! For those who sucked up history and loved it, they either became political science majors or history teachers (that bored the rest of us to sleep). For me, I barely passed history all the times I took it. I feel that history should be forced down our throats a maximum of three times. In elementary school, High school and college.

We study History so we do not make the same mistakes as were made in the past. That is the real reason. When one forgets History, it is often doomed to repeat itself. This completely frees us to make brand new mistakes in society and in life. So that we can look forward without making the same mistake twice.

i think they hope that we learn from the idiots before us who made their stupid mistakes and messes so hopefully we dont repeat the same crap in our lifetime. and, therefore, we progress in life and move forward rather than go backwards.

Hi ruiz richard, we need to study history because it so often repeats itself, so we take the past into the future. History isn't about studying dates of battles but mainly about interpertation of events. A history school or university paper for example should only be judged 40% by knowledge of the facts and the rest by how one intereperts these facts. One quick example, Greece was in a civil war in the middle of the last century and the country was harmed for years by the communist takeovers in certain areas. Most thinking people shun this episode of history as being totally wrong for the country. But the next batch of young students may come along and read the ideologies behind communism and feel it is a good thing without realising the actual reality of daily life and history under communism, so they need to study to find the truth behind the ideologies.

I hate history subject and I don't find it interesting on my field but we need some knowledge of our history for us to understand what happened to our heroes before. But I consider that we must only cater a history subject once in our school year to remember those historical dates and people involve.

The reason we need to study history is because we cannot understand ourselves, our cultures/societies without knowing what it came from. History is studied because people want to know WHY countries are the way they are, and the best way to find that out is to look into that regions past. Ancient wars have far more influence on your life than you could ever imagine.
