As a college student, the payment basis is more often than I was in highschool. Me and my sister are both in college, but I am a graduating student. My father and my mother, are always complaining about the cost, and I am really affected by it. I am also a scholar, and I have been one althrough out my 5 year stay in my school. I work hard for my tuition fee discount because I belong in an ectra curicular organization, and I was hoping that my last tuition fee would be my salary for my 5 year service. I asked my father if I could claim my tuition fee discount, my very last one, but he said, he is not sure if he can manage without it. That really destroyed my hopes. I was looking forward to it, and I dedicated all my previous earnings in order to help my parents, but it is the last one.. I am really really sad..

I understand you 100% on this topic. I am also a college student as well and I know what it is like to feel the stress when it comes to finances. I am a full time student and I work to pay for my bills. Its really tough when you see your friends with the latest fashion and gadgets that you cant afford due to low cash flow. That is one of the reasons I joined mylot is to get just a little bit of extra cash to help

Life is harder of these days, my friend. Because when I was a student. My tuition fee is only P1,900 but now the tuition in a school where I finished my engineering is more than P10,000...My allowance then in a month is P1500 and that is sufficient enough for me...This days I don't think if P1500 have a value because school supplies is much higher price than before...have a nice day!

Wow!that's another burden of the student and I think more youth cannot afford to go into a college of university next year because of the increase of tuition. Life really hard of this days. Not like before that price of selling commodities and necessities is low. Now, I don't want to think how's life will be for another years to come...?

I think it is because of the name of the school I go to hehe, my father wouldn't want me to go anywhere else, because he said that I would have a hard time finding a job when I graduate, even if the tuition fee is tremendously high, he said it would be worth it someday.

My tuition fee is P29,000, and I am a graduating student, which means I have less units. I think the first architecture students' tuition fee ranges from 40k to 45k this school year.

Well, never ever give up your dream. If you want that education so bad, no matter what;whether your parents gonna help you out or not, you still want to go through it. If it takes you another year to do it, or even take you to work full - time fo it, go right ahead, and don't hesitate about it.

I congratulate you on your impending graduation. If you think life is harder now just wait until it is you and not your parents who is responsible for all the bills. Enjoy this time while you can.

It can be difficult when your family expects a lot from you but obligations have their limits. As you say you have classmates who are well off and they do not have your worries. Just as you have worked hard your siblings will have to work hard as well and not look to you to be a parent to them just because you have completed your education already.

I know, and I'm thinking about it already right now, I have this big burden of being the first born, this is too much pressure, and I hope I can handle this. My classmates who are well off do not have this kind of dilemma.

Just be patient.., i know what you feel. I ever got the same problem with you. However, just pray and believe that God always and always helps us. God never gives us trouble that we can't face it. If God give you that problem, believe me, there is message that can you learn for your life future.

Yes, praying really does ease the stress. Aside from my lot, God is the only one I can talk to about these things in order to avoid hurting anybody's feelings, especially my parents'. I'm looking forward in graduating so that I can earn more money for myself.

Dear kafueenu, I'm so sorry to hear your father's respond, but I can understand it too. Yes, life is much harder than 10 years ago. with the energy in the world getting less, the price of electricity and gas becomes higher. with the global warming, the vegetables and fruit and food becomes higher, etc, while our salary does not become as high as the inflation rate. I suggest you look into the future. It seems that you are a smart person and you will have a bright future, meanwhile your parents are old and maybe they don't have much and are confused how to get through their retirement years. Look back into your younger years when you were a child, had they not given you their best when they could afford it ? Now, that they don't have much anymore and are getting stressed out day by day, just pity them and focus on your future. Good luck.

Well, we all have to coping our difficulty in lifetime, and we have to come up ways to solve our own problem. If you desperately need that education, don't hesitate to find any source to come up with the money to go for it. We are made to accomplish anything.

Kafueenu, I am sorry for your situation. Tuition fee increase every year and it is not just a simple increase it is very high. I don't know how the school and University administration calculate it to make the increase so much higher. I mean the high increase is unreasonable and unbelievable. We cannot blame those students who quit school because they can't afford the tuition fee no longer. As your situation , you should be thankful that you can graduate compare to them. Actually my older sister quit school too because my parents can't no longer provide for us. We were both in college then. I was able to graduate because I have scholarship. What she done she find job instead of staying home. I guess the only solution to this is to try hard to graduate and find a job immediately for you to help your parents to provide for your sibling's education. All of us have problems in living our lives. What we all can do is to be strong to fight the odds. Only ourselves can help us. I wish to have a more helpful government and smarter and unselfish governance to solve the problem of country one by one.

Yes, it is tough financially right now for most people. I think that it is really sad that some people might have to give up education due to the poor state of our economy.

Do you think these high fees are due because of the financial crisis? I know everything in the U.S. has gone up in price in the last 5 years, but the problem now is that people have less money (or no money because they've lost their jobs) to pay for these expenses. Don't despair because recently I read an article on Sir John Templeton, one of the greatest stock pickers of the last century and great philanthropist, and he told the story of his problem with paying for college back in his day. His father had just lost a bunch of money in speculation of commodities, if I remember correctly, and told him he couldn't pay for his college tuition anymore. John Templeton said he got 3 jobs and learned how to play the odds in poker to support himself until the end of his college career. Looking back on it, he said at the time it was devastating, but now he sees that working hard and being self reliant helped him so much with his later success in life.

I don't think that high fees are due to the financial crisis, rather the incapability to pay those fees is due to the financial crisis.

Life will appear with it's more complicated face infront of you in future days. As you are growing up and now at college, the tution fees are a serious issue to you now. But the more you grow, the reality will keep on making a rude face. I feel for you. You want to minimize the pressure from your parents. So good a child you are. I can just pray for you as you get a very good scope to recover from this situation.

I also hope that our family can recover from this crisis, I've been trying hard to earn money for my academic expenses in various ways, and I get really tired, I hope that I would be able to relax this last sem, I really hope that my parents can provide for me.

I can feel you, life nowadays is really that hard and so as being a student, finishing college is not an easy task, whether you have the money or not but specially if you don't have, maybe you can just put it this way, think positive, don't feel sad, this is your last sem if I understand you correct, and your almost through, after all the hardship you been through, you've reached this stage and your just a few step away from success, a lot of student like you is still that way behind and personally I admire you because you value that goal of finishing as well as helping your parents by working with that scholarship, just have faith and think positive and things will go your way for sure. goodluck.

I know these are just two things but believe me they're not easy tasks. They require time and a lot of work and the deadline is closing in. argh. I'm near to going crazy. I'm pressured by college and my parents...

With out a doubt, its way more harder these days to get a good college education because student loans charge interest. In my mind education shouldnt be something we have to pay for, but like many other things the only way we can get one is by paying the big bucks.

Yes, this is definitely sad the way your parents are behaving with you for money. The going is definitely touch these days and no matter how much money you earn, its never enough for a minimum comfortable existence. However, it is also equally true that some parents become quite dependent on their children and for them to manage without the children’s income even for one month is difficult. I’m sure your father is feeling equally bad about it…why don’t you talk openly with him and tell him your feelings? Its better to speak out than hold a grudge throughout your life.

hi kafueenu It has been a long time since I went to college and everything costs so much more now. I feel for you and your parents.maybe if all us mylotters send someprayers for financial help for you and your parents a new channel of money will somehow open up. I know I send my prayers that you can get through college easily and with some money to spare. I am sure others here will also send their prayers too. If I had any spare money I would send it to you but alas I am poor. good luck and may God bless you.

Aww..don't be sad, you are not alone in this situation. Eventhough the economy crisis has not affected my country, I can feel your pain. Education is indeed getting more and more expensive nowadays. But there's nothing we can do because we need that for our future. Is there a way for you to find scholarships, be it from your college or another sponsors? If yes, then I think you should go for it. My younger brother is also graduating from university. I can say that during his study, my parents did not really spend much money. His tuition fees are all covered by the scholarship's sponsors. Why don't you search in on the net. Who knows you can get one. Good luck to you!
