In the past, we went through life with ease even without the cellphones. I would like to know if the advent of cellphones and the use of them have considerably improved the way of life of people. What are your thoughts on this?

I could say YES for the reason that cellphones improved people's communication accessibility.. With cellphones you can keep in touch with your friends, relatives, and a lot more anytime anywhere you want. You can now also see the person you're talking too from your cellphone using 3G, you can take and send pictures as well, listen to music and live radio, watch your favorite TV shows.. and a lot more.

Of course, cell phones are very useful especially in communicating with loved ones anywhere they are. In times of emergencies we don't have to look for telephones because we have it with us already. We just have to be sure that its battery is charged always.

Hi, triplejazzm. Indeed it is a very useful tool in communication. We get news quicker and faster. It is most useful in times of emergencies. We don't find it difficult to get in touch with police stations or hospitals when the need arises. It also saves us time and effort because most of the time, we need not be personally present in a place to be able to get something done. But admitting that this is very useful to us, its acquisition and use might not be giving the same advantage to other people as we do. It all depends on one's personal needs and choice. Thanks and God bless!

I could say "Yes", because in our present time today it is important to have a very fast way of communicating to others. The best part is that most phones now are not only through testing or calling but can also be used for internet surfing, there are also a lot of useful applications that can be installed in our phones, take an example myself, I have an English, Medical, and Catholic dictionary on my phone so that I could easily know the meaning of an unfamiliar word.

Hi, charmz. We live in the same country and it is a fact that we have been named the "texting capital of the world", or so I heard (hope I got it right). It must be because almost everyone of us has a cellphone. Even the students, the very low-income earners, the house helpers and the senior citizens have it. It has surely become a common gadget for all of us. It has become a very useful tool for communication for everyone. Other cellphones come with added features and surely benefit the user according to his own needs.

Hi Picquarian, That is one of the greatest advantages you have with cellphones. We can readily use it in times of emergencies. It is more useful for me because I can get in touch with my children so quickly. With only a text message, you can get in touch with whoever you wish to contact. You need not run to the phone booth or to the store to use their landlines. Sending text messages is cheap here.

Hi, agoenxz. You are right, there. There are always advantages and disadvantages and the use of cellphones is not spared of this. It is for the person's choice to use it to his advantage. It is his choice to use it according to his needs. He is responsible for regulating its usage and fight off the disadvantages that it brings.

Cellphones have definitely improved my life for the better. Because of cellphones, I didn't have to worry much about the whereabouts of my family members. It has also improved the efficiency of communicating/handling business transactions with my clients and subordinates.

Hi, soledad. Yes, cellphones are very useful especially in getting in touch with our family members. In this time where criminality is on the rise, it is always best to know the whereabouts of loved ones. Like me, I am always worried when my son arrives late from school. That is why, I always tell him to text me as soon as he is off school and on the way home. That way, I need not worry about him and make unnecessary texts and calls while he is walking or on board jeepneys putting him in danger answering it as robbers now abound. Of course, it also helps a lot in business deals and other professional transactions of most businessmen and professionals. God bless!

I can tell one thing that, i can live my life without mobile phone, but what for mobiles are invented, it is just for texting and speaking ...When u are in an emergency and you need help, you can dial 911 and request for help with your mobile phone, but now a days people don't uise mobile for talking, they use it to show off what they have got with their mobiles, the use of 3G network in mobiles, think about the past where internet itself a costlier package, now internet in mobiles, i think this is unnecessary , because a professional should always carry a notebook computer in his hand with the network connection, if u are not a professional, u can go home and chat with ur friends in ur desktop, what is the emergency of chatting through net using mobiles..?? There are lot's of unanswered questions, according to me if mobiles are invented for the use of talking then they have improved our way of life, if they are invented for showing people what we have got, then it is a curse, spending money unnecessarily.. happy mylotting..

Hi, gunagohan. It is a useful tool depending on one's needs. It is a tool mainly for the purpose of easy communication. Some phones come with added features and it is a bonus for them who, I think, can afford to buy such upgraded models. It would be a different story then if some people buy cellphones just to show off to friends. You would be right that it would be an unnecessary gadget then. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day!

Yes, that's true. They are really very useful tools especially in areas where there are no landlines. It is always a ready gadget in times of emergencies. No matter where we are, as long as there is a signal, anybody can get in touch with us. Each one though is expected to be responsible for its usage. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day.

That is true. The advent of cellphones and its use has greatly affected the lives of people. It may have done so to one's advantage or disadvantage. It all depends on the person's choice, needs and comfort. If the needs are met and the user is satisfied, we can say that it is working advantageously. Yes, we cannot overlook the fact that it has affected our personal life, too. As to how, that is to be viewed on one's individual opinion and satisfaction.

Hi moneymakingtoday! I really can say that my cellphone improved my life, not in the aspect of my personality but in the aspect of my friends, my work and many more. You see with the cellphone with me, communication is not a problem. Cellphones are very handy and easy to use. That in anywhere I go, even at a place like a remote area, as long as there is a signal on my network, i can keep on communicating with the people i need to convey everyday.

You are absolutely right. It really spells a lot of difference having them than not. It is quicker to communicate with anyone. It is easier to do that because it is within your reach all the time compared to when you have to look for landlines to call anyone. This is especially so in times of emergencies. So many lives were saved (road accidents) because response came early because communication was quicker and easier. Thanks for sharing!

yes yes yes, we went through life with ease even without cellphones. but, not this much ease.. compare the productivity and time saving and money savings with cellphones and without cellphones.. we can give tons of examples.. also there are many disadvantages in using cellphones.. but it is not the mistake of cellphones but it is the mistake in mishandling those technologies..

You are right, dhanasekart. It has surely greatly improved some people's lives. It all depends on one's needs. If one thinks that he needs if for the fulfillment of something at work, he finds the cellphones very necessary tools. If he finds it necessary for personal and family use, then he finds cellphones help a lot. There are a lot of advantages as there are a lot of disadvantages. It behooves upon the user to weigh these things according to his personal outlook. Thanks for sharing.

I know that cellphones have made my life more convenient, but more costly. It is another monthly bill. I think cellphones might be makeing lives inconvenient and trapping to other people. Think about it. People who are in positions of employment in which they have to carry a company phone around with them 24/7. Sometimes these people are never off duty so to speak. You are expected to be reached anytime, anywhere. I think it is taking away the freedom of some white collar workers. There is no break. You can get information instantly and the danger in that is if for some reason we lost that convenience. Would people know what to do with themselves? Especially the teen and preteen generation of today. I'm sure that if you did a study of interpersonal communication where people actually talk to each other face to face you would find a significant drop since the common use of cell phones. I have friends that I talk to and they don't even look at me while they are texting away even if they are listening it's rude and condescending. Well that's my opinion. Thanks!

Yes maintaining or having a cellphone adds to expenses. If one does not take care of looking into its proper usage, he will end up paying huge amounts each month. Cellphones have, in a way, made people "impersonal" as they have the convenience to just text or call and don't find the need to get face-to-face with each other. Some people though give up some expenses in favor of cellphones and manage their finances by weighing the advantages over the disadvantages of having them or not. Some find cellphones to be unnecessary. I therefore believe it all depends on one's choice to have or not to have a cellphone, according to his own needs. Thanks for your opinion. Have a good day!

Thanks for sharing your personal thoughts. Good for you. I agree that cellphones made communication easier, faster or quicker. They really come in handy in cases of emergencies. It was the most important thing that I had during an unfortunate and tough thing that happened to me 6 years ago. It happened on the road and I had the quick chance to call the authorities because of the cellphone that I got.

I guess it has improved my life in terms of being accessible to my family who lives abroad. Unlike twenty years ago where we had to wait for the mail, or had to have a telephone installed so that our family living abroad could contact us. The beauty of this technology is that it literally brings those living away from us nearer.

Hi, anne. The usefulness of the gadget is undeniable. It all depends on one's needs though. There are people who think that this has not improved their lives because of the other alternatives they have and because of their own individual choice based on its usefulness. It is surely an improvement in life especially for you who has a family abroad. It was difficult in the past, the mails arrived too late and it defeats the purpose of expediency. Thanks for sharing.

It's hard to say. From a technoligical, or business viwe point, mobile phones have improived our way of life. It has made communication so much easier and faster. Also from a safety point of view, I like it that my daughter has a mobile phone with her at all times. I also like it that people can text me with brief messages, instead of having long chats on the phone. On the other hand , far too many people especially teenagers and young adults have become obsessed with mobiles. There are far too many examples of kids racking up enormous bills. Not only that, their obsession with the mobile phone has meant in some cases, they are not pursuing other aftivities, such as sport and face to face socialisation. Anoher negative is growing evidence that extensive mobile users have an increased risk if brain tumours.

You are right there, jennybianca. The use of cellphones has considerably improved other people's lives. They find it easier and quicker to communicate. Accessibility is increased and easy, too. It has helped a lot of businessmen and professionals in their work. On the other hand, it has its disadvantages. Parents should monitor their children on the usage because if this is not done, they are the ones to suffer with the huge amount of bills. The risk of brain tumors has been widely circulated and it is always better to have proper precautions than worry later.

No, I don't think that cell phones have improved our way of life. I see too many people talking on their cell phone when they could be talking with their companion. When I visited my daughter, her children hardly talked to me because they were always on their cell phones talking to their pals. I do have a cell phone that was purchased when I was on the road a lot. Now that the reason for my frequent long car trips by myself no longer exists, I'd like to get rid of the phone, but my husband insists I keep it. It is mostly used to call home from the grocery store to ask if we need this or that.

Hi, bellis. I believe that like other gadgets, cellphones have their own usefulness, too. This has made communication easier and quicker. Some people find that their "life" depends on the use of it, especially for businessmen and professionals. I too, find some disadvantages in the use of cellphones. They tend to take over personal interaction which humans need to learn and practice. They tend to make face-to-face interaction obsolete and lessen people's need to see each other. I am aware of that, too and see people not talking while being together because both are tinkering with their phones. Thanks for your comments and have a nice day!

People got busy with their race for money. Thereby the socialization graph was getting down. In this moment, once the cellphone came, then the socialization got a new dimension. Communication became too easy with cellphone. Life has come in your grip now. Your grip contains the globe now. Communicating, taking photo, sending multimedia files instantly, radio, tv, email, graphics everything have got a new address to gather, that is cellphone. It has improved my life, no doubt. Thank you.

in other way it really helps. buts it has also some disadvantage you know
• Philippines

Hi, badbasty. It surely is a useful tool. I have, in fact, commented on the other responses about that. Just like other gadgets of modern technology, there are always benefits and disadvantages thereto. It has made life easier, communication made faster and quicker. On the other hand, it lessens face-to-face interaction which becomes impersonal at times.

I've had a number of cell phones over the years, and yes I will admit and agree that it has improved my life greatly. I was able to get rid of my land line, because there wasn't anything I couldn't do with my cell phone and learned I no longer needed it. I pay one bill, and get extras that a land line can't provide and I'm happy. Plain and simple.
• Philippines
30 Nov 09
That is absolutely right. Cellphones defeat the purpose of having a landline, especially if you are alone in the house. I was thinking about canceling the landline service we have in the past months but I just couldn't do it. Our internet service requires us to have the landline, so it stays there. I just thought it was of no use already because all of us in the household has his own mobile unit.
