Well I was watching this movie dont know its name becuase I started watching it in the middle but it got me thinking if this could be true.I mean is it racism exhibitted when we go on the train and chooses to sit beside someone of the same colour or is it racist when we naturally think of marrying someone who looks like us or is just what we are comfortable with ?..Is that racism or just discrimination and is it bad? I dont know if I understand this statement and thats why I am throwing it out to you ?Thanks for your answer in advance

I don't think that is right, I think that people have taught dispositions about certain colors of skin and they don't ever explore the other persons feelings about how it makes them react in society. Feelings shouldn't be the only reason and somebody social economic class should not be based on their skin color, we should learn about other races so we understand where they are coming from, it will help us to move forward instead of backwards all the time.

Hi ronnyb, I don't think that we are racist but lots of people just feel more comfortable sitting beside someone that looks like them. It doesn't matter to me anymore, I'll just sit in the nearest seat now, but I can remember a time when I felt more comfortable with someone of my own colour. We've come a long way in the past forty years, let's hope it continues. Blessings.

Thanks for you answer and I dont think it is racism or discrimation too ,it might just be a case of not understanding someone else and especially when that race is synonomous with doing bad things

To me racism is a form of discrimination. Discrimination can come in many forms. Some people only mingle with those from their own ethnic group which we call as race. Yet others mingle amongst those from the same religious group. There are also people who only interact with the rich and famous as well as look up to those with power. The list can go on......

Yes some people only mingle with people who are like them and therefore discriminate perhaps not intentionally against others

its a form of racest i think or they are judging them. i know i often will wear jeans and look like im a biker type and people will give me strange looks well females will hold onto thie purses when i walk by. but yeah its mostly them sterotype them. its sad. often those who looks more rough are the ones who will protect others in time of need. me i sit by whoever i could careless.

Yes I guess people judge people by how they look and what they wear .I guess I am guilty of that too and its just human nature .Like you mentioned often those are the good people but we rarely give them a fair chance

Well, I don't think most people are racist! There are almost 7 billion people, which means more than 5 billions are racist. That is not true. Yes, there are many racists all over the world, but they are not so many. Here in Bulgaria, there are also racists but they are only in the 3 biggest cities and they are not so many. So if in each country about 3-5% from the people are racists, that means about 150 million people on the Earth are racists.

I like the mathematical approach because it has helped me to understand how small this number is and I agree with you

even I dont like my own race. I think peoples todays is individualist : they thought, worked and so on just for their own goals, if they were make together it will also just to easier their own and finally for their own interest. May be they love and dedicate for thier children and family but still they are self centered. sometime it is good to protect their self in this recent comptitive and defend fron others, it is naturally good. they sometime ready to help others but still for thier goal at last, nothing is free (lol) hehehe, Phillp Kotler (American marketing writer) told that clearly !!

I wouldn’t say that most people are racist, but that sadly many are. Within my circle of friends and acquaintantaces I have seen no evidence of discrimination, ever but what has saddened me has been to hear children at my daughter’s school make comments about other children of certain races not being allowed to attend their birthday party; I don’t think comments like that stem from the children, if you know what I mean… I think that any prejudice is a form of racism...

Hello my friend ronnyb Ji, Thereis an old saying our side, 'BIRDS OF SAME FEATHERS OLK TOGETHER'. A smoker would sit by side of another smoker, so smoker also may fall under some race But, while on viist to USA in 2003, I too tried to find out, if tghere was an Indian in the cvrowd and would talk to them.AS I sited example in my opening response, I think it is natural that racism exists by nature. May God bless You and have a great time.

Well on public transport I would sit next to whoever no matter who they are once there is a free seat. As for marrying, I would marry for love and again no matter who they are.

I think that every single person has discrimated in some way or another. I think we all are quilty of judging people. Thanks god i have the best of both worlds. Me being bi=racial has opened my mind to change.I think that different is always good. There is good and bad in all races. If one person of one race does something wrong, It makes people think all people from that race are bad. As far as the marriage parts goes, the body is just a shell anyway. Whats important is their heart and how they treat you. I wouldnt care if they were blue,as long as he was a God fearing man, honest and good to me.

I think it depends on how you define it. If you think people in anyway, make any distinction in choosing people to be together is racist. Then most people can be racist! I believe there are also people who accept any people in any case, but that's not many. Mostly, they are from immigrant countries, if they are used to coexist with people of different ethnics, they they may take it as a natural choice. Because of communication with different types of people, they may get different impression for different peoples. This kind of different impressions can influence their choice. If you think this kind of preference is "racist", then it is true that there are lots of "racist" in most societies.

I totally dont think so, its just preference. Its like choosing between a pear and an apple, just because i choose to eat a pear doesnt mean that i discriminate, its my preference. I have been having this debate with myself as well and i came to the conclusion that i do not want to mix because i love my race too much and i dont want it becoming extinct one day. if u think about it if we all chose to mix there will only be one race in the whole wide world. I love the diversity, i find it exciting that when i go to china i will learn what the chinese do etc. Thats how we discover / learn new things. i have no problem with any race and i prefer mating with my own race, its that simple. i love u all guys.

Its one thing to HATE a certain race, but having a personal preference for a certain type of race is another. Neither one is a good thing, but one happens to be a little less intentional than the other. And it is human nature to gravitate towards people that look similar to ourselves, everyone does that. Me for example, I am not attracted to middle easterns or asians, But I do not HATE them at all whatsoever, I love all races, but having a natural personal preference over one more than the other is something that I feel like I am not able to help.

I knew I was not a racist but now I DEFINITELY know I am not a racist as I do not fall under any of the definitions of racism! Definition of Racism: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

The entire world is racist ronnyb. Even in India, there is racism. As far as the north Indians are concerned, people in south are backward, because they are of a darker complexion. So even though we are Indians, a north Indian will never marry a south Indian, because of the color, and of course even if a south Indian wants to marry a notrh Indian, they will not agree. On top of this, we also have castes and inter castes which is another form of racism. I do not know whether racism is bad or not, but I can assure you, you cannot eradicate racism

I think that racism is when you don't want to be around someone that is has a different culture or race from you. A person would literally hate the persons skin color so to speak. And discrimination is when you don't want to accept someone because of how you feel personally. Like if they did not have a lot of money or if they don't live in a certain type of neighborhood.. Those things, so to speak. That is what I think that these two words mean.

the world is racist but not from a point of view of being nasty and using aggressive behaviour. Personally I would never date a coloured woman or say a filipino or chineese etc etc as I personally don't find them attractive. Same as some people wouldn't date a westerner so to speak, in the technical term this is racist but is reality its just how the world is. I do think the agressive racism is on a decline as rarely do I hear any remarks on people colour or race based on an agressive stance.
