Yes, friends, whatever you post today (22 December) will be worth DOUBLE! Now, can you think of anything which will be a "Quality" response to this discussion? Before I read the alert, I was idly wondering what other people associate with Christmas. For me, it was a time of magic. We never decorated our house before Christmas Eve. First of all we would all go into the garden and pull whatever ivy and holly and greenery we could find. My father would take a saw and cut a substantial branch from one of the yew trees. This would be set up in the corner of the living room and the rest of the house would be decorated with the branches and vines we had gathered. It was a very special day done in preparation for the next. My discussion topic is: Even if you are not Christian (or British Christian, even) do you have a day of celebration when you decorate the house? (Whether it's at this time or some other). Is it done mainly for the children, do you think? What do adults get out of it? Are we (at best) all children at heart or are we just 'Bah! Humbug'?

The alert is quite simple. Whatever you earn during 22nd of December (that is from midnight to midnight roughly, Central Standard Time (which is 6 hours behind GMT), MyLot will double it, so if your participation amounted to $0.30, you would get $0.60.

I dont think the pay rate should have impact on quality. I know theres going to be people thats only here to make the cents per day but honestly i get so much more out of this. For me personally my responses will not be changing with how much i will make today. I may participate alittle longer than normal. For me as a child Christmas was always a very magical time too. Now that we have a grandchild its so much fun to decorate the house. He loves all the lights and sounds of Christmas. I do think all the decorating, lights, sounds and smells of Christmas bring something to adults as well. I know for me when i experience it every year theres something about it that takes me back to that magic time of my youth and boosts my spirits in general.

I was trying to add an image to my answer... this isn't the first time I've been told to just use regular letters, punctuation, etc.

Well I didn't realise it was double-earnings day today until I found the email notification about your discussion. And when I first read the title I thought that it was maybe just a ploy to draw people into the discussion, but then I saw who started the discussion. As you are one of my voices of reason here on myLot I realised that it must be genuine! So thanks. (And thanks for including that in your discussion header as there might be some other people who wouldn't have logged into myLot today, if it weren't for seeing this discussion title!!) Well, to the actual question.. I'm British but I'm not a Christian. I'm Jewish (although non-religious), and I'm trying to rack my brains about whether there are any festivals where the custom is to decorate one's house. At Purim we decorate ourselves (ie. dress up), at Chanukah we light the menorah, which is pretty, but we don't traditionally decorate besides that. And at Sukkot we're supposed to have a sukkah, a kind of tent (usually attached to the house) which is open to the stars, in our garden. And people decorate that with fruit, vegetables and flowers. So maybe that's the closest we get to decorating our house! It's done for adults and children alike. In our house at this time of year we have a menorah for Chanukah and a little Christmas tree. I kid myself that the Christmas tree is just for our daughter's sake, but honestly I've also always wanted to have one myself!

I have also thought that Sukkot is, perhaps, the most 'decorative' festival you have but many Jewish families seem to combine Channuka with 'Christmas' and have a tree and decorations as well. Both festivals have an element of the 'celebration of light' about them (actually, since it falls just after the shortest day, it probably originally was a welcoming of the longer daylight hours and the return or 'rebirth' of the Sun.

Yes, we are one of the families who combine Chanukah and Christmas! We don't decorate the house, but we have our little tree. Yes, that's true about them both celebrating light in some way, and interesting about the possible pagan common origin. I like that.

I just love decorating. Every year I have a different colour scheme and always move things about so that it always looks different. I also put some lights and things in the window and again do something different every year. I just love all the lights and I would rather have lots of lights and smaller decorations then a big tree. That's what Christmas is to be lots of glitter and twinkling lights. The other time of year I love to decorate for and I put even more effort in to is Halloween. Again I always do something different year and make sure that if I do use the same decorations two years running I move them around. I do this for myself as it's what I enjoy. I really hate it when people knock on either carol singing or trick or treating, I see it as another form of begging. Glad I read this as I didn't know posts were worth double today. What time is it till though, I'm in the UK?

It's Tuesday 22nd December 8.06pm in the UK, so in ten hours it will be Wednesday 23rd December 06.06am. Will anything after midnight in the UK still count towards double? This is the bit that confuses me due to the time differences. However long I've got I'm going to get typing!

Just shows that you didn't actually read the discussion. The question about the stockings was rhetorical, as you would have realised if you had read what the discussion was really about, as most people have.

A few years ago I checked what time is cut off time for posting and I was informed that any postings after 11PM EST (USA) would be calculated into the next days earning. So that being correct I presume that any postings after 11PM last night would be doubled in today's earning.

Forgot to add that would be for me as I live on the East Coast but the best way is to remember 12PM CST is myLot's closing time for the day.

i'm afraid not whatever we post today worth double since mylot won't credite every post of our work here at least. if only judge from the number of post ofcoures every member can post more than 500 posts within one whole day's working i guess.if i can reach the payment within today would be enough to me already.

Of course MyLot will credit every post! (Provided it's within the Guidelines, of course). Why ever would they not?

I agree that Christmas - the presents and festive atmosphere, anyway - is really mostly for kids. The best of us, though, are always kids at heart, so you have a license to feel included!

Hello, Owlwings. My parents were in business - they had a fish and chip shop. Christmas Eve was one of the busiest days of the year, as most families were so busy with preparations for the following day, they didn't bother to cook. In those days, you didn't need a second mortgage to buy fish and chips! Most other businesses closed late in the day on Christmas Eve as well, as this was in the blessed time before we started preparing for Christmas in the school summer holidays. We always decorated our house on the Sunday before Christmas Day. When this fell on Christmas Eve, my mother was delighted, because she preferred to decorat the house then as well. In those days, no shops were allowed to open on Sundays. We'd get up earlier than usual - Sunday was usually my parent's only chance for a lie-in - have a nice cooked breakfast, and then set about the decorations. Once the house was done to Dad's satisfaction, we'd go to one of the uncles or my aunt for an evening meal and a Christmas Eve party. Dad had 3 brothers and a sister, and we went to each house over Christmas - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. The ladies would prepare the food, while the men disappeared to the pub, and all us would have a great time together. I always decorated my own house on Christmas Eve, and involved the children, even when they were adults and came to stay, we always held over the decoration so they could join in, and had a meal from the huge gammon I'd cooked that day. These days, I have arthritis, and my husband, at 76, isn't as agile as he'd like, so we tend to do the decorations on the Sunday of Christmas week, so we're not in a state of collapse on Christmas Eve. It's still a celebration, though. It's a magical time when you decorate and light up the house.

We also used to decorate our house only on Christmas Eve. There was also a rule that NO presents went under the tree until Christmas morning. They were all hidden away in a cupboard.

I think the quality for double earning would not be good. mylot will get a lot of quantity instead of quality contents.

You may be right there but, of course, those people will not earn any more, relatively. Those who post quality posts, as always, will be the real winners and get the lion's share of the bonus.

i never bother with quality. pointless one liners are far better. anyway i know some people really enjoy all the trappings of christmas, whether they have children or not although i am not really one of them (my christmas tat discussions are now into double figures). was speaking to a friend earlier who was actually talking about having bought his first christmas tree (a plastic flashy thing i think) but this is someone who really enjoys christmas. and christmas tat too.

If tat's the way you like it, tat's the way it will be, I guess. Personally, I love Christmas decorations (but I hate taking them down and clearing up afterwards).

Wow that sounds great. Decorating the tree branch must be lots of fun. I associate very very bad times with Christmas. I have much nicer memories of little christmas (on December 6th) when you got a little present and took the goodies off the tree! That was fun, always loads better than Christmas proper. Much more magical and also the knowledge that Christmas was now over! Phew made it through another year! I love trees and I quite like the idea of Christmas/Yule trees, so maybe one day I will have my own tree and have some fun. Maybe on December the 6th even! One day.

I had never heard of 'Little Christmas'. December 6th is St Nicholas' Day, so I guess that it might celebrate St Nicholas (the original Santa Claus) who is the one that is really noted for giving gifts (even though many of the stories about him seem to have been appropriated from stories about pagan gods!) We always left our decorations up until 12th Night (January 6th), so there really were 12 days in our Christmas!

Hello, I am not a Christan but I do like and celebrate Christmas! I love this time of season and I have always tried to decorate my room or now apartment. I have such a feeling of happiness even if I don't have money or there is something else that makes my life difficult. This time of the year makes my life more easier more lighter, I got more energy to further my life, more energy to bring happiness to my dear persons, to say a nice word or make just a happy smile :) I believe that this time of the year brings miracles to everyone, you just have to be open for that and let all good in your souls...that's the meaning of Christmas :)

Haha, reading the first comment made me laugh. I try to keep my posts semi-good as well as fast. I mean, one liners are unlikely to get you anything, but posting a GOOD quality answer where you spend like ten minutes on it... i just don't see the point. I mean we'll earn what? 0.02 cents max for a really good post... which you'll spend ten minutes on. Every hour that'd be like 0.08... I could probably finish a good answer sorta like this in around 2-3 minutes tops, depending on how long i can be bothered to make it...

I'm afraid it is "Bah. Humbug" at our house. Our children have been gone from our home for so long that the grandchildren are starting to leave the nest. I put up the tree and decorated it all by myself while my husband told me I was wasting my time because the kids wouldn't be here. One lived too far and the other always went to her folks for Christmas. About 3 years ago, I gave up and threw the Christmas tree out in the garbage.
