Global Warming?? Do you Believe? 50/50 change you're RIGHT!

I just heard an "Expert" say that there is a better than 50/50 chance that 2010 will be the warmest year on record. Really? so there's also a better than 50/50 chance it WON'T be! These guys are too funny. They say the warm temps are from "global warming" AND the snowing in Arkansas and 31 degrees in Atlanta is "global warming". So are we getting warmer? or colder? (I've got snow on my porch from December 24th if anyone cares to figure that into their equation) What do you think?

i guess it depends on what part of the world are you at. i am from asia and usually during january it is still cold. cold for us not as cold as a snowy country would be. but after new year the air does not feel like it is as cold as what we used to have. so i guess it would be much irritatingly hot on summer. we only have two seasons the wet and the dry season and it is always hot. by reading your discussion i guess we need to prepare for a more irritating summer.

Thank you for commenting! I live in snowy land and it has actually been much colder and more snow this year than last. In fact, we are looking at a severe drop to ZERO degrees and a high of only 12 later this week! BRR... I would be curious to hear back from you this summer to see how your temperatures agree or disagree with 2009 and 2000 temps!

The thing about saying that is the statistics it is based on could be interpreted any number of ways, depending on which side of the argument your on. Not to mention what exactly is the "better than" part. Does it really matter if it is 51/49, or is more like 60/40 before anyone pays attention. Or course the real statistic wasn't stated because it would probably be interpreted as meaningless to most people. So instead they put there own spin on the written word by saying "A better than 50/50 chance". For every quote "Scientific study" on any subject, and from any point of view, there is always going to be another one that takes primarily the same facts and interprets them the opposite way to support their own argument. Its up to us as individuals to decide what we believe. Its only when enough people truely become concerned about a given topic, that anything really starts to change.

Well written! I totally agree. I've been paying attention to the news weather the last few years and noticing that I don't see drastic warmth coming. Isn't the US south getting socked with extreme cold? I saw Florida at 28 degrees? Was that right? I am in a state that recorded a wind chill this morning of -27!! Too bad we can't have a truly neutral person to investigate. I think we should still try to find more natural approaches to how we live and fuel our lives. I don't see anything wrong with being a little green! You can be green without the hype! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

The fall and winter has been real cold in 2009 and the first few days of 2010 have been cold to so only time will tell how the spring and summer will turn out in 2010.

I think the "expert" you are referring is a fortune teller. lol. You never knew if it will really happen or not. And the 50/50 chance is like tossing a coin where you predict the outcome by chance. Yeah, the global warming is inevitable and are showing the effects of it this past years. And we too can make a guess by saying that 2010 will not have a warmest year on record.

Thanks Tank for your response! I am not convinced it is inevitable. I have heard from a geological journal report that the human carbon footprint hasn't changed in over 150 years. I think our planet was created by an AMAZING Creator and that it has survived this long... I don't think we can do mush in our natural daily routines to obliterate it... however, a major nuclear war might change the polar caps. (Don't those melt down every year?) I don't think we SHOULDN'T try to be more creative in how we live and take better care of our planet .. I'm Green that way ... I just don't think the sky is falling. Either way, I don't plan on being here to see if what they've been telling us for over 25 years happens or not. :*)

Global warming in my opinion is all propoganda! I've taken Physical Geography and learned about the earth's global systems. The truth is that the earth goes through natural periods of heating and cooling. Everyone throws around the term global warming like the way Henny Penny says "The sky is falling" (classic children's story). Let focus on reality instead of all this media hype that gets created over global warming. Here is Arizona we are having a cool winter. I mean we've had some days with highs around the low 60's. This is chilly for us here. I mean it is not like it was 80+ degrees for Christmas like in some years. Personally, I hope that we will not have a hot summer here. In Arizona, we count every day that it is not over 100 degrees in the summer as a very welcome blessing.

I always global warming was for real. Certainly in our country with the extended drought, our only river drying up and thje increase in temperatures the last two summers, would make it appear to be all due to global warning. Our government heavily p[romotes global warming as a big issue too, with the carbon credits deal. On the other hand, I have read some info, one in particular a member of my lot, who clearly explain that global warming is not happening. That these are the usual fluctuations common to our planet. So now I dont know what to think?

I think for those in the Northern Hemisphere it is hard to believe that Earth is warming up but for us in the tropics we can feel the increasing temperature every now and then. Although the cycle of having cold season and hot season is still occuring every now and then but I can feel that the weather pattern is not the same and is becoming worsening already. In our case we either have too much dry season or Wet season.

Just wait and watch and also feel. Coming years are gonna be more warmer. I think global warming will change the climate and weather pattern all over the world. Its the way of nature or you can call it corrective measures. These measures will definitely make us feel umff. and ahh.. with those weather reports.

I have been around for quite a time. I remember when I was still a child that the summer season was not as hot as this before. Now, we can hardly stay in the sun for quite a long time without experiencing sunburn as well as possible risk for skin cancer. By this simple point of view and analysis, I think it is safe to say that there is really global warming.

It's awfully early in the year to make a prediction for the year in general. However, based solely on the way that the temperatures have been for the first six days of this year, I really think that it is NOT going to be the warmest year on record. It has not been above freezing since the first here. Now, we are to the sixth and it is freezing cold and no sign of a high temperature being above freezing for the next several days to come. Now the fact that they bank on the fifty/fifty probability is the only way that they can be assured that they are never going to be wrong. However, I don't think that someone who banks on those kind of odds could ever really be an expert.

Global warming is true and we all experiencing it now because of the climate changes and hot weather. Also non stop raining which doesn't falls into season. The prediction about 2012 is bas on global warming and the reason for the global warming is because of us. People who are very irresponsible in nature. I belive that the modern technology also plays a part of it.

I believe that global warming will occur because the sea level is rising and the temperature is getting hotter and hotter as the years pass by. The icebergs at north and south pole is melting faster than expected not to mention the climate talk from countries all over the world.

I just talked to my brother in Wyoming and he's complaining about yet another bitterly cold front moving in tomorrow. Global warming? I dunno... I think they will twist anything to make themselves sound right. There has to be money in it somewhere or they wouldn't be so stubborn about it. If the earth is warming all over, it would be all over, wouldn't it? I don't want to know what kind of excuses they make about that. Even IF the earth is getting warmer (and it may be... who really knows?) it's part of a cycle that doesn't have anything to do with mankind. Who do we think we are, that we can make that big of a difference to such an enormous and complicated ecosystem that we don't even halfway understand? The earth has been here (according to them) billions of years. I suspect it's pretty well balanced by now and cares for itself.

I understand what you mean. What I do believe to be true is global "climate change" or perhaps even "climate crises" as the polar ice cap keeps melting away to nothing, while some of the typically warmer states keep getting chillier. There is the undeniable ever growing hole in the ozone layer, too. Some scientists, though, predict that in the not too distant future, the biggest crisis will be another "ice age." I am not sure what to call it, though. Karen

The ozone layer is disappearing. Causing the climate to go to both extremes. Either hot or cold not just one or the other. And the disappearing ozone is called Global Warming. How can you not believe in it?
