Is there anyway we could travel to the centre of the Earth?

Ok! Agreed! This is a ridiculous question! However, give me a break! I'm experimenting here!. We seem to be mastering technology year by year and it amazes me that we can venture into space and carry out space walks, walking on the moon etc! I don't know if you remember a film called 'The Core'? Well, there's this problem at the centre of the Earth and the liquid lava stops spinning for whatever reason! A team is put together in order to try and rectify the problem before you reach your end of world dooms day scenario! If anything like this took place in real life, what would the chances be that we were able to resolve the problem? Do you think we could ever come up with some kind of technology that could take us to the centre of the Earth! This discussion is crazy yet thought provoking I hope! Andrew

Hi Andrew, I have seen The Core and many other films on the subject but what I thought about was, what if we were to drill all the way to the other side, would we be upside down when we got to the other side and would we just fall back down the hole again I am sure if there is ever a problem with the earths core, there would be some plan and a team of scientists in place

Yes, it's interesting to think about where we could possibly end up. Still, I'm hoping that nothing actually goes wrong with the Core at the centre of the Earth otherwise we could possibly face a dooms day scenario! Andrew

It is theorized that travel to the center of the earth had been accomplished, and frequented. There are known tunnels that travel thousands of miles through mountains and earth. These "secret tunnels" were used by secret societies to meet and discuss their agendas. Some say that the illuminati know that travel to the center of the earth is a fact, but nobody knows what they know... well atleast not you anyways. You should ask why. Then do something about it.

I'm sure that this is pure fiction at the present time although who's to say that a journey to the centre of the Earth will not take place in the future! It's only a matter of time I guess! We have the technology to venture into outer space so I'm pretty sure the boffins can come up with something that will take us to the centre of the Earth! Welcome to My Lot by the way. Andrew

Im more sure that it is non-fiction, than you are sure that it is fiction. Your surety it based on an assumption. I recall a line from the movie "Under Seige" where a characters says that " Assumption is the mother of all fcuk ups" Have you even bothered to research the historical evidence of my claims? Look up illuminati tunnels, and get you head out of the seventh planet from the sun. I dont mean to be rude, just trying to drive the point home. I find it very suprising that most people are completely in the dark about such topics, when there is so much history that shows where we've been, as a civilization, and sheds light on where we might be going. please look it up. you can add other fun words to your search like: freemasonry, knights of templar, zionist, exopolitics, d.u.m.b.s.,.... the list is long but i think you'll get the idea from just looking at these few topics. good luck, and God bless.

I think it may be possible because of the technology we have today. But i am not quite eager to find what is we could find at the center of the earth. Or if ever they do, i sincerely hope that they do it without violating Mother Nature.

That would truly be the worst thing, to violate Mother Nature! I'm sure there must be someone in the world in any case that has thought about the idea of travelling to the centre of the Earth! It's only a matter of time and improvement in technology I guess! Andrew

If we ever get to a point where we can do that all I can say is, "Bring your bathing suit because it's going to be plenty hot there!" LOL! Well, they do have those huge tunnel bulldozer type machines. I forget what you call them, but, you know what I mean. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Yes, it would feel like an oven down there I'm sure! Still, no one is brave enough to mount a mission like that yet but who's to say that it won't take place at some point in the future! I'm sure that it would be the top news story of the day were it to eventually take place! Andrew

Well Surely why not? If the ride is ready i am ready too. Kidding. A very interesting discussion.I enjoyed the entire loop.

Thanks! That would be some journey and it would be very exciting as well as dangerous potentially! I like discussions that really get you thinking. Anyway, who knows what will transpire in the future! Andrew

It just a film. It's possible to the center of the earth but It's impossible get back life from the center of the earth. You will be burned there.

I've no doubt that this would definitely be the case! I think that it would be a very exciting journey although a very dangerous one at that. Still, it would be nice to see the boffins coming up with some kind technology that could achieve this. I look forward to seeing what transpires in the future! Andrew

I think they would attempt to send robots to the center of the earth if such a scenario took place. I can imagine a shaft being dug deeper and deeper, but they would not deploy humans to fix the problem, they would use androids.

Robots definitely sound feasible! They send robots to Mars at the present time so why not the centre of the Earth! Still, the movie 'The Core' was very interesting and it really gets you thinking about the 'What if' questions! In any case, if anything were to take place it certainly would not be within my life time! Andrew

May I make the suggestion that you study Science in College this semester?

Well, I have an interest in all things science but I don't think I will venture down the road of studying for an accreditation! This discussion is purely fiction and gets you trying to answer the big 'what if' questions! It's an interesting theory though, trying to travel to the centre of the Earth. Andrew

Hot topic. Take us physically there, I kind of doubt it. Send some kind of probe down there that could withstand the heat and pressure, possibly.

Thanks! Well, it's an interesting theory all the same. We as a human race love to nurture our curiosity and discover new things so I'm wondering whether this idea is festering within the mind of some scientist in the world! It would certainly be a headline event! Andrew

I have seen The Core and I doubt it could be possible to survive down there, let alone be able to drill all the way down. . . A crazy idea would be building a machine using diamond, the hardest material ever known. So we could spend a lot of money making that and then throw it down and make it start going to the center. But if there was some problem, like in the movie, I don't think we could send people down there, because it would mean they can't come back up (in real life, how could we really propel them back to the surface?). So, I say it would be possible to survive a trip down there, but it would be very expensive, and it would be hard to actually dig through all that.

I like the idea all the same. Hopefully we will never arrive at the stage whereby we actually have to make a journey to the centre of the Earth. Yes, it would take millions no doubt! It seems everytime I see a science fiction movie it's not long in the future before it suddenly becomes a reality. Maybe this current piece of science is unrealistic as you say! Andrew

It is an interesting thought. Because the gravitational field would decrease as you approached the center, we could theoretically drill a hole all the way through to the other side of the planet and something very curious would happen. If you stepped into the hole, gravity would pull you down at ever increasing speed until you passed the center, at which gravity would begin to slow your travel. In a theoretical world (we do not live there) your speed would go to zero when you reached the surface on the other side. Not to rain on your picnic (it is fun to think about stuff like this) there is no known substance that would be able to retain its original shape when subjected to the intense heat and pressure deep in the earth. Maybe someday some kind of ceramic will be able to do that. If they do that, let me know how your ride turns out. I will NOT be going, at least not on the first one.

Well, you can count me in for a ride like that!. I just think the improvement in technology is so daunting! No one knows where we are headed in terms of advanced technology but I'm pretty sure there's a very exciting future ahead of us! Anyway, hopefully technology like that is never needed, that's if it is even feasible! Andrew

There is a fictional book about Journey to the center of the earth and it also became a movie on 2008 stared by Brendan Fraser. I think its not possible to travel by foot going through inside the volcano because even if the volcano is inactive there would still be steaming lava that will become an hindrance during the journey. About the technology that would take us to the center of the earth, I think its possible since we did travel to outer space, what more to the center of the earth.

It may be possible in the future but I'm thinking many futures ahead! It's likely that I won't be around to see it! It amazes me that we are able to travel into space and yet there is so much of our own planet that remains undiscovered. I think some very interesting times lay ahead! Andrew

Hello Andrew, Next week I watched "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (with Brendan Fraser in The Mummy) The story is about a scientist who believes that there are volcanic tubes going to the center of the Earth. He, his nephew and the mountain guide after that discover this is true. In the center of the Earth, there're ancient animals and plants such as dinosaurs or lighting bird... In Doraemon the manga, there are something similar. Sounds crazy, but who knows, thousand years ago, when Pythagoras said that the Earth is round, people called him crazy ^^

I've seen those movies too and they were very good, they certainly get you to think about what it would be like. There's no knowing what will take place in the future but I'm pretty sure that it can only be positive. Andrew

Yeah, you are true we must try our level best to carry out the project and research about how to overcome the doom's day which has created terrific images in our mind..With our best efforts we can find a solution to this, as the saying goes "IMPOSSIBLE IS THE WORD FOUND IN THE DICTIONARY OF THE FOOLS"..

I like that idea of nothing being impossible in theory! I guess with thorough planning then anything really is possible! I suppose it's only a matter of time before someone takes the initiative! Someone like Richard Branson could finance the project! I think that we are living in some very interesting times all the same! Andrew

The only thing I really know about the movie "The Core" is that it's science was laughed at... but that's why it's science FICTION. It's not likely to happen. It is theorized that the very center of the earth, underneath all the magma, there is some kind of solid mass. I don't remember all the exact details from whatever textbook I picked this up from, but it has something to do with seismic waves and the way they travel through the earth. Something stops waves that should travel directly through the core, and therefore the core must be a solid mass rather than magma. But nobody's actually gone into the center of the earth to confirm this. We don't have the technology to drill much past the crust, much less through the mantle layer and magma. I'm sure you can imagine that the center of the earth has an extreme heat thing going on. It wouldn't be easy to get all the way to the core. So IF the the core was a problem... we probably wouldn't be able to fix it. Maybe a hundred years from now, but not today.

Yes, a hundred years sounds about right! I guess the scientists should be thinking about all possible future scenarios so that we can be prepared for whatever may take place! Still, I'm content in the knowledge that nothing like this could happen within my life time! Andrew
